Abstract

Lagu dolanan anak memiliki kontribusi dalam pembangunan karakter pada anak-anak. Di sisi lain, mengajarkan lagu dolanan anak juga dapat melestarikan kebudayaan Jawa yang saat ini semakin tersisih. Analisis lagu dolanan anak dilakukan dengan metode analisis isi. Teks lagu dolanan anak akan di analisis pada tingkat semantik yang kemudian dihubungkan dengan analisis prakmatik.Analisis tersebut dilakukan untuk mengetahui karakter apa saja yang terkandung dalam setiap lagu dolanan anak. Hasil analisis tersebut diharapkan memberikan kontribusi terhadap pembangunan karakter. Selain itu, dapat dijadikan pertimbangan dalam mendidik anak dengan metode bermain dan belajar.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kuantitatif. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya fenomena yang diamati oleh penulis dimana tingkat kemampuan bahasa Inggris mahasiswa jurusan teknik masih terbilang sangat kurang dibandingkan dengan kemampuan bahasa Inggris mahasiswa jurusan non teknik di Politeknik Negeri Ujung Pandang. Adanya perbedaan ini disebabkan oleh sesuatu hal atau suatu faktor yang salah satunya adalah motivasi. Penelitian ini akan mengungkap motivasi mahasiswa baik dari jurusan teknik maupun non teknik untuk belajar bahasa Inggris. Data tentang tingkat motivasi dari mahasiswa diperoleh dengan menyebarkan angket yang berjumlah 50 item kepada responden.  Hasil analisa data menunjukkan bahwa bahwa sebanyak 48,6% responden  dari jurusan teknik memiliki motivasi yang sangat tinggi untuk belajar bahasa Inggris, sedangkan dari jurusan non teknik hanya mencapai 42,9%. Banyaknya  responden dari jurusan non teknik yang memiliki motivasi yang tinggi adalah sebesar 52,4 % sedangkan dari jurusan teknik adalah sebesar 50%.  Jumlah responden yang memiliki tingkat motivasi yang kurang pada jurusan non teknik bahkan lebih banyak dibandingkan dengan jurusan teknik, dengan jumlah yakni masing-masing 4,7% dan 0,7% namun dalam jumlah jumlah yang kecil.Tidak ada responden yang memiliki motivasi yang sangat kurang untuk belajar bahasa Inggris dari jurusan non teknik dan terdapat seorang responden yang memiliki motivasi yang sangat kurang pada jurusan teknik. Motivasi responden baik dari jurusan teknik maupun jurusan non teknik dipengaruhi oleh faktor internal dan faktor-faktor external seperti faktor pengajar atau dosen bahasa Inggris, faktor tujuan akademik dan karir, serta faktor pelajaran Bahasa Inggris di kelas.

Abstract

One of the aspects of teaching ESP is development materials. ESP teaching should be linked to a specific discipline, make use of methodology that differs from that used in English for General Purpose teaching. They assert that it is essential that an ESP course take into consideration register, genres and associated language that students need to understand and to manipulated in order to carry out activities related to their disciplines.

Abstract

One of the language components is phonology.  Hyman (1975) states that phonology studies the sound system of language. A sound is considered very important in all languages because the language can be understood by listening to its sound. When a speaker of a language makes error in pronouncing the sounds of a word, the meaning of the word can be changed, and then there can be a misunderstanding between the speaker and the listener. By seeing this importance of sounds, one is expected to pronounce the sounds of a word correctly. But, pronouncing the certain sounds of a language is still difficult for some people, mainly the people who learn a new language, including Buginese learners who learn English as a foreign language. One cause of second language learners’ difficulty in  pronoumcing the target language is the difference between the first language and  thge target language target system. Some English sounds are different from Buginese sounds, and some English sounds are absent in Buginese language. The aim of this paper is to present some of the difficulties The Buginese learners usually face in learning English pronunciation.

Abstract

Dasar permasalahan pengkajian dalam penelitian ini adalah penggunaan peer assessment sebagai penilaian pada proses pembelajaran. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana pelaksanaan peer assessment sebagai penilaian proses pembelajaran yang dilakukan pada mata kuliah Assessment and Evaluation melalui lesson study dan apakah penggunaan peer assessment sebagai penilaian proses pembelajaran dapat meningkatkan keaktifan siswa dalam pembelajaran. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif. Data tentang bagaimana penggunaan peer assessment dan apakah peer assessment dapat meningkatkan keaktifan mahasiwa dalam pembelajaran diperoleh melalui lembar observasi observer, video rekaman proses pembelajaran dan pengamatan oleh dosen model (peneliti). Berdasarkan hasil pengkajian dapat disimpulkan bahwa peer assessment sebagai penilaian proses belajar sebagian sudah dapat dilaksanakan sesuai dengan tahapan prosedur peer assessment yaitu dengan menggunakan rubric dan format penilaian namun masih ada beberapa tahapan yang belum sesuai yaitu rubric yang digunakan tidak disusun bersama dengan mahasiswa dan belum ada tahapan feedback oleh mahasiswa dan penggunaan peer assessment juga dapat meningkatkan keaktifan mahasiswa dalam belajar.

Abstract

There are four skills in English, namely listening, speaking, reading and writing. Reading as one of the skills in teaching English plays important roles in English. This research aims to find out the reading habit, the reading techniques known and used by the students and the problems facing by the students of Politeknik Negeri Ujung Pandang in reading comprehension. The population of the research is the students of Mechanical Engineering Department of Politeknik Negeri Ujung Pandang. While the samples of the research are the D4 Manufacturing Engineering and D4 Mechatronics Engineering students. The total number of the students is 45. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive analysis. This method is used as a procedure to solve the problems which are observed. To get the data for the research, a questionnaire is used to find out the reading habit, the reading techniques and the problems faced by the students. The questionnaire comes in form of semiopen-ended where besides providing some options for each number; the students are also given a chance to give their own answer or opinion.

Abstract

The video site YouTube can be a valuable tool to teach English and arouse learner independence. Using YouTube both inside and outside the classroom can improve conversation, listening and pronunciation skills. YouTube video can also be utilized as regalia to enhance exposure to the world and support authentic vocabulary development. If students and teachers/lecturers have unlimited access to the Internet, YouTube can be a useful tool through which multiple skills in English can be taught. This paper offered possible inadequacy that may come by using online video technology.

Abstract

The core concern of teaching in tertiary education is to enable college students to experience higher order of thinking in knowledge exploration that shape the students’ academic identity. The focus of language proficiency in this context is not for communicative use in general but more specific to academic purposes such as research dissemination. This article explores essential components of a course design of Academic presentation Skills to facilitate research based learning. This article first discusses the inclusion of research based learning and teaching framework into Oral Academic Presentation Skills (OAPS) course. Before it portrays the course design of Research Based-Academic Presentation Skills, this Article identifies the drawbacks and the benefits of the course design. Furthermore, essential components of the OAPS such as learning objectives and, technology and online materials are discussed in order to provide a clear portrait of OAPS. Implication and suggestions for future researchers and course designers are also discussed.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui respon siswa terkait dengan metode pembelajaran yang dikembangkan oleh peneliti untuk mendorong mahasiswa untuk menulis di dalam bahasa Inggris khususnya bagi mahasiswa program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris semester V tahun akademik 2013/2014, salah satu hal yang tersulit yang dilakukan mahasiswa program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris adalah kemampuan menulis di dalam bahasa Inggris, hal ini terlihat dari tugas kuliah dan tulisan skripsi yang ditulis oleh banyak mahasiswa memperlihatkan bahwa mereka sangat kesulitan di dalam menulis bahasa Inggris.  Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif yang ingin melihat sejauhmana respon mahasiswa di dalam metode pembelajaran menulis ke dalam bahasa inggris yang diberikan oleh peneliti, penulisan ini di batasi pada penulisan sederhana yang umumnya dilakukan dikelas dan juga tugas rumah (homework yang berkaitan dengan menulis).  Instrumen penelitian yang diberikan adalah kuesioner dan wawancara yang dilakukan peneliti pada masing-masing mahasiswa yang telah diteliti, dari hasil kuesioner dan wawancara tersebut akan terlihat bagaimana respon atau perkembangan yang dirasakan mahasiswa setelah diajarkan menulis menggunakan beberapa metode yang digunakan oleh peneliti.

Abstract

Learner Centered Curriculum in the teaching of English in the classroom setting needs attention from educational practitioners, especially teachers of English. This is because; good curriculum hopefully will give beneficial contribution to the quality of teaching of English in Indonesia which is assumed today very low. This paper discusses a variety of issues deal with curriculum. Those issues are identification of curriculum problem, curriculum design, characteristics of ideal curriculum, curriculum development in Indonesia, and learner centered curriculum.
