Abstract

The satisfying adjustment can be achived if the individual has a problem solving skilll to cope with his tensionn, frustation and conflicts. The problem solving skill can be acquired through training. Besides, one of the determining factors to adjustments is the local culture.The purpose of this study is to find out whether the wayang and the teaching of Suryomentaram as the material of the problem solving training is effective to reduce adjustment disorder.          Twenty interested students of the Faculty of Psychology were involved in this study 10 students were the experimental group and the other 10 students were waiting list acted as the control group. The problem solving training was given to the experimental group about two hours per day for three days successicely. The problem solving training was also given to the control group but after the experiment had finished. The effectiveness of treatment was evaluated three times: pre-test, post-test and the follow up (three months later). The measurements used were M.E.test, Self Concept Scale and Live Satisfaction Scale. In addition, they were asked to answer the material and the treatment evaluation questionnaires.          The results of this research showed that problem Solving Training could reduce adjustment disorder and it retained after 3 months. Thus it can be effective to reduce adjustment disorder. In this respect, the material of the teaching of Suryomentaram had the biggest aplication value compered with other material in the problem Solving Training to reduce adjustment disorder. It suggests that to deal with the problem of adjustment, the most suitable intervention is something that which is is accordance with the local socio-cultural entities.

Abstract

Assertive training is the procedural training for helping people acquire appropriate emotional ekpressiveness in social and interpersonal situation.          This study investigated the effects of assertive training on increasing self esteem of student in  Indonesia.          Fourteen students participated in this study, 7 in experimental group and 7 in the control group. Self esteem scale was administered before and after the training.          The analysis of covariance was used to find out whether the Self Esteem Scales score differed before and after training. Result of these analysis showed that SESs score difference on after the training (P,0.002).          The result of this study showed that assertive training was effective on increasing the low self esteem. This study support the notion that assertiveness results in increased self respect and self confidence. It enhances sense of dignity as human beings.

Abstract

Social competence is a from of social skill that can be learned and developed to increase the quality of adolescents coping behavior since sosial competence is the index and predictor for the adolescent healthy adjustment.          The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of social competence on the late adolescents coping behavior.          The subjects of this study were late adolescents who were student of the third grade of SMA Batik I, SMA AL Islam I and SMA Muhammadiyah I in Surakarta. They were between 18-21 years of age.          The instrumens used to collect the data were social competence and coping behavior scales. The social competence scale was based on four aspects: (a) social knowledge, (b) self confidence, (c) empathy and (d) social sensivity. The coping behavior scales was categorized into two factors: (a) mature coping behavior and (b) immature coping behavior.          The statistical methods to analyze the data were intercorrelation matrix analysis and simultan regression analysis. The results of this study were as follow: (a) the level of social competence has a role on the quality of adolenscents coping behavior, (b) sensivity aspects contributed most to the immature coping behavior.

Abstract

Akibat kolonialisme Barat, di Dunia Islam dibangunlah sistem pendidikan Barat sekular yang semakin maju, sehingga timbul Universitas-universitas yang kemudian menghasilkan lulusan-lulusan yang ahli dalam disiplin ilmu tertentu, tapi yang buta sama sekali dengan khasanah Islam, banyak dari mereka justru mempunyai citra negatif terhadap agamanya sendiri, bahkan ada yang lebih Barat dari orang Barat sendiri. Di lain pihak, mereka yang tak setuju dengan sistem pendidikan sekular, tetap mempertahankan sistem pendidikan tradisional Islam, dan kurang mau menerima ilmu-ilmu baru sejalan dengan kemajuan jaman, sehinggal lulusannya ahli dalam ajaran-ajaran Islam khusus, tapi buta sama sekali dengan ilmu-ilmu baru yang timbul sebagai jawaban terhadap tantangan jaman. Terjadilah "gap" di antara keduanya. Timbullah kemudian dikhotomi dalam sistem pendidikan dan dualisme dalam kurikulum-kurikulum "Islam" dan kurikulum sekular- yang berbeda berbeda atau lebih tepat bertentangan satu sama lain. Kurikulum "Islam" untuk jangka waktu yang lama tidak diubah, seakan-akan menutup diri dari perubahan jaman dan tidak berhubungan dengan realitas dan modernitas. Hal ini sebagian karena konsevatisme dan penuh kecurigaan dari pemimpin-pemimpinnya, sebagian lagi memang rencana sekularis supaya lulusan-lulusan pendidikan Islam itu tidak merupakan saingan bagi mereka. Setelah Dunia Islam mencapai kemerdekaannya, keadaan bukn bertambah baik. Pemimpin-pemimpin bangsa kebanyakan lulusan pendidikan sekular, dan pendidikan Islam dibiarkan terbelakang terus. Fakultas-fakultas Psikologi di Indonesia yang mulai didirikan sejak tahun 1960-an, kurikulumnya sebagian besar mengacu pada pendidikan Barat sekular. Dengan semakin berkembangnya upaya islamisasi psikologi akhir-akhir ini, dipertanyakan kemudian bagaimana kira-kira kurikulum psikologi yang berwawasan Islam itu, apakah tetap sama, diperbaiki di sana sini, atau dirombak sama sekali? Makalah ini akan membahas sedikit permasalahan tersebut.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the differences of work values based on the differences of parentss levels of education, work aspirations, kind of school or school departement, and sex.The method employed to et the samples was "cluster purposive random sampling". The number of students taken as the samples was 582 coming from various departements of different senior high-school; the departements of social and natural sciences, and the teacher training in Surakarta. The instrumen employed to evoke work values scale 1989. to know the parents levels of education, work aspirations, kinds of school or school departement and sex a set of a questionnaire was used. Data analysis was conducted by means of "one-way-simulataneous analysis of variance". A post hoc analysis was also conducted by means of the test.          The research results were as follows:There were no differences of work-values either of economic, non-economic, achievement or influence based on the differences of the parents levels of education.The students whose parents level of education was higher than junior high-school gave more attention to the affiliation and common work-values than those whose parents level of education was junior high-school or lower.There were no differences of work-values either of economic, non-economic, achievement of affiliation based on differences of the studentss work aspirations.The students whose work aspirations wa s to goverment emloyees gave more attention to the influence and common work values than those whose work aspiration was to become private employees or entrepreneurs.There were no differences ot economic work-value between the students, of social and natural sciences departements, the students of economic, engineering, and family prosperty school, on one hand, and those or teacher training school on one hand, and those of teacher training son the other hand.The students of teacher training school gave more attention to the non-economic, influence and common work-values than those of social and natural sciences departements, and of economic, engineering, family prosperity schools.The students of natural sciences depatement gave more attention to the achievement work-value than those of the other departements of school.The students of family prosperity and the economic schools tend to pay more attention to the affiliation work-values than those of the other departements or schools.There were no differences of achievement and economic work-values between male and female students of senior high-school.Female students gave more attention to the nn economic, affiliation, influence and common work-valuthmale students.
