Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Hydatidiform Mole (complete and partial) is one of Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases (GTD) characterized by the occurrences of trophoblastic cell proliferation and abnormal placenta flakes. It can develop into malignancy, metastasis, and cause death. Therefore, characteristic data of the patients in applying preventive program and optimal therapy are required. This research evaluates the frequency and distribution of the hydatidosa mole patients and its type in the annual period from 2012 to 2015 and several responsible risk factors, such as age and obstetric history of the patients. Methods: reviews of histopatology specimen of hydatidiform mole were conducted as many as 255 cases which met the inclusion criteria in the period of January 2012 to September 2015. The review particularly determines the histopathology diagnosis of hydatidiform mole and its type. Results: The number of hydatidiform mole patients in the period of January 2012 to September 2015 is 255 patients. Approximately 70.65% cases of those are categorized as completed hydatidiform mole. The highest frequency of mole occurs in the range of ages from 21 to 25 years old (24.19%). About 28.57% cases occur on the first pregnancy and 7 out of 255 are recurrent case of mole pregnancy. Conclusions: The occurrences of hydatidiform mole found in Pathology Anatomy Laboratory of Medical Faculty of Hasanuddin University are quite high, and the cases of completed hydatidiform mole are in the highest number. Abstract

ABSTRACT Introduction: To observe the number and  presentation of retinal redetachment after primary reattachment treatment in a national eye  center. Methods:  This study was designed for ob- servational-descriptive of the medical record  from April 2011  to March 2012.  Selected cases were identified on the secondary retinal surgery for retinal reattachment followed the failure of the primary treatment. Cases were then classified into 4 groups based on the primary reattach- ment procedure: pneumatic retinopexy (PR), scleral buckle (SB), pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), and combined SB with PPV. Furthermore, in the group of PPV and SB+PPV  were then divided into 3 subgroups based on the intraocular tamponade: SF6  gas, silicone oil, and heavy  silicone oil. Results:  At one-year followed-up data, the presentation retinal redetachment was 7.1%, relative to the sex female (26%) was less than  male (74%) with the most common age  group was 41-50  years-old. Regarding with primary reattachment treatment, cases  of retinal redetachment after pneumatic retinopexy was 6%,  the  scleral buckle was 16%,  pars plana vitrectomy was 29%, and  combined sclera buckle with pars plana vitrectomy was 48%. Con- clusions: Rates of retinal redetachment after primary reattachment treatment varied from 6% to 48%, that were  performed by combined scleral buckling and  pars plana vitrectomy with or without tamponade silicone oil. Keyword : Retinal redetachment, pars plana vitrectomy, scleral buckle, silicon oil, intraocular gas

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Breast cancer is a multifactorial disease as a result of interaction between ge- netic and environmental factors such as hormonal, infection, chemical material, and radiation. Until now, it took as the most occurred of cancer in women, which have the highest mortality in the world. However, its cause still unknown. According to epidemiologic and clinical - laboratory studies, it was found that there are many risk factors which have important roles in female breast cancer like menarche, menopause, endogenous and exogenous hormones, family his- tory (genetics), parity, lactation, obesity, physical activity, diet, alcohol, smoking, environmental factors and history of biopsy and breast examination. The aims of this study to evaluate and compare the clinicopathological features in the four breast cancer subtypes defined by immu- nohistochemistry expression of ER, PR, and HER-2: ER/PR+, HER-2+ (Luminal B); ER/ PR+,HER-2- (Luminal A); ER/PR-, HER-2+ (HER-2 type) and ER-/PR-, HER-2- (Triple nega- tive) type. Methods: This study was a retrospective study of 89 invasive breast cancer. Clini- cal and pathologic features of the four subtypes were compared. Results: ER/PR+, HER2+; ER/PR+, HER2-; ER/PR-, HER2+; and ER/PR-,HER2- types were 10 (11.2%), 35 (39.3%), 27 (30.3%), and 17 (19.1%) samples. Subjects with ER/PR-, HER2- where are likely to be younger (p<0.001). In tumor subtypes with HER2+, the number of subjects with poorly differentiated was larger than the total number of well and moderate differentiated (p < 0.001). There was no significant difference of metastatic to lymph node status in all subtypes. Conclusion: Subtype luminal A of breast cancer have a high number than other subtypes. There was a correlation between overexpression of HER-2 with poorly differentiated of breast cancer but not with a metastatic capability of tumor cells to lymph nodes. Keywords : Luminal A, Luminal B, Her-2 type, Triple negative, breast cancer

Abstract

ABSTRACTGlabrous skin dermatophytosis is dermatophytosis that affects hairless skin areas which are devided into tinea corporis, tinea cruris and tinea facialis. Causative agents of dermatophytosis include: Trichophyton spp, Microsporum spp,  and Epidermophyton spp genus. Ketoconazole is an antifungal drug that is widely administered because of its lower price than other drugs and have good clinical improvement, eventhough it’s more toxic than the new antifungal, triazole. There was no research study about sensitivity/resistance ketoconazol for glabrous skin dermatophyte in Makassar. A cross sectional study was carried out in this study to test the sensitivity of ketoconazole for 45 dermatophyte colony isolates that grew up form scale of glabrous skin dermatophytosis patients of Wahidin Sudirohusodo General Hospital and its networks through the broth microdilution on Microbiology Laboratory Education Hospital UNHAS.  The result of this study reveals that ketoconazole has become resistant of most of the causative agent of skin glabrous dermatophytosis in Makassar (88.88%). Microsporum audoinii rivalieri is the most variants found in glabrous dermatophytosis, followed by Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes downy type. The genus of Epidermophyton was not found.  Ketoconazole is more abundant to sensitive in Trichophyton spp than Microsporum spp. The match between in vitro antifungal sensitivity test and in vivo clinical improvement monitoring is required to determine the resistance of ketoconazole in a holistic manner.  Key words: in vitro susceptibility testing, ketoconazole, glabrous skin dermatophyte.

Abstract

Pleural effusion is a condition characterized by the accumulation of excessive pleural fluid in pleural cavity as a result of transudation and exudation. The most commonly reported cause of exudative pleural effusion is Mycobaterium tuberculosis. This study was aimed to identify Mycobacterium tuberculosis in pleural fluid through PCR test and to examine the relationship between PCR test and MGG staining of pleural fluid in patients with suspected tuberculous pleural effusion, which was performed in Clinical Pathological Laboratory Installation of dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo hospital in Makassar and Faculty Research Unit Laboratory in Hasanuddin University from March to November 2012. This study was a cross sectional study. Subjects in this study consisted of 75 patients (41 males and 34 females[AA1] ) with average age of 40-49 years (30.7%). Pleural effusion patients with suspected tuberculosis who had a positive PCR result was 58.7%, negative PCR result was 41.3% and positive rivalta result in 82.7%, negative rivalta result in 17.3%. Statistical analysis using independent T-test indicated a non-significant relationship between PCR test and average MN and PMN cell percentage in MGG staining (P > 0.005). This study concluded that in MGG staining, average MN cell percentage was higher in PCR TB (+) group compared to PCR  (-) group, but the difference was not significant.
