Abstract

This experiment was aimed to evaluate yield potential and adaptability of some varieties of rice based on some morphological and physiological characters. This study was conducted at Paluh Merbau village, Percut Sei Tuan Sub-District, Deli Serdang District, North Sumatera, Indonesia on March 2012 till July 2012. This research was arranged in a randomized block design non factorial with three replications. Eight varieties used are Ciherang, IR 64, Lambur, Batanghari, Banyuasin, IR 42, Inpara 10 and Margasari. Salinity stress in rice leads to changes in both morphological and physiological characters of plants, where the response of each genotype varies depending on the nature of tolerance or sensitivity to salt stress. Observation of growth and production showed that genotif IR 42 had the best growth and the highest production as compared with other varieties

Abstract

A research on rice varieties tolerant to nitrogen deficiency has been conducted. The experiment was arranged in a split plot design with 3 replicates. There were 15 varieties of rice studied and 2 levels of nitrogen applied, i.e. 0 kg Nha-1 and 90 kg Nha-1. The results showed that rice varieties resistant to nitrogen deficiency were Inpari 16, Marga Sari, Lambur, Inpari 19, Limboto, and Batang Hari. However, rice varieties with high-tolerant to nitrogen deficiency were Marga Sari, Inpari 16, Lambur, Batang Hari, and Situ Patenggang

Abstract

Research about influence of indigenous mycorrhizal fungi on organic osmotic adjustment to salinity stress in soybean has been implemented in saline land in Percut Sei Tuan sub district, Regency of Deli Serdang with EC 4-5 mmhos/cm. This study aimed to determine the effect of indigenous mycorrhizalinoculation on organic osmotic adjusment in different soybean varities. This study used Split Plot Design with two plots. The main plot was soybean varieties consist of non-selected Grobogan variety (salt-sensitive variety) and F5 selected Grobogan variety (salt-tolerant variety). Split plot was mycorrhizal inoculumconsists of 7 types of mycorrhizal inoculum namely without inoculum, Glomus sp-1, Glomus sp-2, Glomus sp-3, Glomus sp-4, Glomus sp-5, and combined of all mycorrhizal inoculum. The parameters observed were leaf proline content, reducing sugar and soluble protein. The results showed that leaf proline content,reducing sugar content and soluble protein were significantly different in soybean varieties, mycorrhizal significantly affected leaf proline content, reducing sugar and soluble protein, while the soybean varieties and mycorrhizal interaction significantly affected soluble protein content in leaves.

Abstract

Meristematic shoot tip culture to obtain good quality seedling of citrus (Citrus nobilis Var. Brastepu) free from citrus vein phloem degeneration (CVPD) is explained in this research. The method is conducted by using a diseased plant and is then propagated in optimum conditions. The research is conduted in Tissue Culture Laboratory Department of Biology, University of North Sumatra, Indonesia. Optimum conditions for citrus propagation have been obtained to produce good quality of Citrus seedlings that is free from CVPD. The analysis of the DNA using PCR method has confirmed that the seedlings are healthy and free from CVPD. Genomic analysis using 10 RAPD markers show the planlets regenerated from the cultures are 100% similar with the mother plant.
