Abstract

Corporate financial distress is a hot topic among practitioners and academics. This financial difficulty can lead to a bankrupt position if not handled properly. Much research has been done on financial problems, but it was still limited during the Covid-19 pandemic. Some companies affected by could-19 (lockdown policy) may experience finances such as tourism, transportation and other sectors. This research investigates whether there are differences in financial difficulties before and during the pandemic (2018-2019 and 2020-2021). In addition, this study also aims to test whether financial ratios contribute to financial distress. The role of audit committee effectiveness as a moderating variable between financial ratios and financial distress is also tested in this study. Using 18 companies engaged in the restaurant, hotel and tourism sector as research samples (41.42% of the population) with the data period 2018-2021. Different tests and regression tests were used to answer research questions. The results show that the sample companies experienced financial difficulties during the pandemic (2020-2021) because their z-score values were lower than 2018-2019, with significant differences. The regression results show that liquidity has a positive effect on financial distress. The audit committee's effectiveness acts as a moderating variable between leverage and financial difficulties. In other words, a high level of audit committee effectiveness will strengthen the positive leverage relationship with the z-score or lower financial distress. One of the control variables (firm age) has a negative effect on the z-score. In other words, the older the company, the lower the level of financial distress. This research has theoretical implications where agency theory can explain the relationship between leverage and financial condition with the role of audit committee effectiveness.

Abstract

In this comprehensive study titled "Strategic Transformations: Assessing the Interplay of Digital Commerce, Traditional Trade, and Emerging Market Trends in the Global Business Landscape," we embarked on a multifaceted exploration of the dynamic forces reshaping the global business environment. We delved into the complex interplay between digital commerce, traditional trade practices, and emerging market trends using empirical data and a rigorous analytical approach. Our research revealed a profound shift in how businesses operate and consumers engage with the marketplace. We found that once considered optional, digital commerce has evolved into an imperative for businesses seeking to remain competitive in the 21st century. This transformation extends beyond adopting online platforms; it encompasses the digitalization of supply chains, data-driven decision-making, and integrating emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Blockchain. Furthermore, our findings highlighted the intricate coexistence and convergence of digital and traditional trade practices. Businesses increasingly adopt hybrid models and omnichannel strategies to cater to diverse consumer preferences. This strategic adaptation allows them to leverage the strengths of both digital and traditional methods while remaining agile in response to emerging market trends. Sustainability emerged as a paramount concern, shaping consumer choices and driving businesses to embrace eco-conscious practices. The study underscores the need for businesses to view sustainability not as a mere trend but as a fundamental driver of their strategic decisions. Our research provides valuable insights for businesses, policymakers, and stakeholders navigating this transformative landscape. It contributes to the ongoing discourse on the future of commerce, offering practical implications and a roadmap for strategic decision-making in a world where the digital and traditional realms of business intersect and evolve.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of job stress on job burnout. Besides this study also investigates the role of sleep disturbance as a mediating variable between job stress and job burnout. Four hypotheses were developed and tested using a quantitative approach. Research data is a hundred primary collected using survey methods. Variables are measured using a Likert scale of five with a range of very disagree (1) to very agree (5). The data analysing method employed a structural equation model (SEM) using Smart-Partial Least Square (PLS) 3.0 software. A measurement model and structural model assessment are used to obtain research results. After passing the evaluation of the measurement model, the structural model shows that the model has good predictive relevance and power. The result indicates that sleep disturbance mediates the relationship between job stress and job burnout (indirect-only mediation). Hence, the direct relationship suggests two significant relationships: (i) job stress and sleep disturbance and (ii) sleep disturbance and job burnout.
