Abstract

Powdery mildew is one of melon disease caused by ascomycetes fungus from genus Sphaerotheca and Erysiphe. Breeding is considered to be the best approach to control Powdery mildew infection especially in melon. MG3 is a melon cultivar derived from ‘MG1’ x ‘Ladika’ and its estimate carry out resistant gene to Powdery mildew infection inherited from MG1. This research is to find out percentage and phenotype characters of Powdery mildew infection in MG3 compared to four commercial melons (Action 434, Glamour, MAI and ladika) that are popular in the market. Five melons are planted in greenhouse B of KP4 UGM. After five weeks, the plants where inoculated with Powdery mildew KP4 UGM in leaves. Scoring in three days after inoculation and the percentage of infections measured every 3 days for eight times using grid line 21 cm x 21 cm with small cubics 1,5 cm x 1,5 cm. The analysis of infections level in leaves, plant and population was done using Fukino protocol. The results show that cultivar MG3 tolerant and stable to Powdery mildew infection compare to cultivar Action 434, MAI and ladika in leaves, plant and population level. The infection of Powdery mildew caused damage to the leaves tissue, decreasing the abilities of photosynthesis resulting in necrotic, chlorotic and dead of the infected leaves. In fruits, infection causes break in the net, immature and rotten flesh, decrease sweetness and scent in cultivar Action434, MAI and Ladika. Base on microscopic analysis, Powdery mildew isolat KP4 UGM is a member of from genus Podosphaera.

Abstract

The implementation of high-quality learning is something teachers must ensure. Consequently, teachers need to be able to design engaging learning procedures that draw students' attention to the subjects they are teaching. Understanding a student's preferred learning style is one of the necessary teachers. People with learning styles closely tied to their environments and personalities are adjusted. The process of receiving knowledge will be improved by defining the learning material to the learner's preferred learning style. One of the most used diagnostic tools for determining learning type is the VARK model. The visual, Auditory, Read/Write, and kinesthetic learning styles are divided into four divisions in the VARK paradigm. This research aims to identify the dominant learning style among science students. A qualitative descriptive methodology used one hundred junior high school students as research participants. Diagnostic exams and interviews were the tools used. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively by reducing data, presenting data, and making conclusions. According to the findings, 35% of students are kinesthetic learners, with 30% being visual, 21% being Auditory, and 14%t being Read/Write. Identifying learning tools, such as choosing learning models, creating and choosing materials, and learning media and assessment approaches that are more effective in accordance with student learning styles, can be done by developing one's understanding of learning styles.

Abstract

Basil is a plant that can be used as a traditional medicine. One part of the basil plant used as an alternative medicine is the leaves. Basil leaves contain active compounds, including flavonoids, saponins, tanins, and essensial oils. These active compounds is able to prevent the presence of pathogenic bacteria that can accelerate food spoilage, so that basil leaves can be used as an alternative natural preservative. The objective of the study was to determine the ability of basil leaves as a natural preservative for  mackerel. The research was carried out in vitro, by observing the physical, chemical, and microbiological characteristicts of mackerel which were treated 8 hours of soaking basil leaf extract. Variations in the concentration of basil leaves used were 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%. The results showed that the physical quality of the 8-hour storage samples showed changes in the physical quality of the fish, as seen from the color, eyes, gills, mucus, aroma and texture. The microbioloical quality of fish was analyzed by the total plate number method. The total number of bacteria decreased as the concentration of basil leaf extract increased

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the learning independence of students in different specialization classes. This study employed a quantitative, comparative approach. The subjects of the study were class X SMA.  There are 21 students in class X MIPA and 36 students in class X IPS in SMA Nurul Fallah Kefamenanu. A questionnaire about learning independence was used to collect data. The results indicated that students in different specializated classes differed in their independence in learning. The learning independence of MIPA specialized students is 19.99% greater than that of IPS specialization students. This may be due to the inappropriate grouping of specialization classes and the existence of a negative stigma towards students enrolled in IPS specialization classes. This stigma has the potential to have a negative impact on self-confidence, learning motivation, learning creativity and student learning discipline. Therefore efforts that need to be made are to improve the system for determining specialization classes and to provide equal opportunities and support for each student to develop themselves according to their interests, talents and potential

Abstract

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are a group of bacteria that are naturally present in the digestive tract of vertebrates, including fish such as Channa sp. Lactic acid bacteria are considered the most suitable microbes for use as probiotics. Probiotics can produce antimicrobial metabolites so that can improve the microbial balance in the digestive tract. It is believed that Channa sp. harbors LAB in its digestive tract, which may have probiotic potential and produce antimicrobial metabolites that can inhibit pathogenic bacteria. The aim of this study was to isolate and identify LAB from the intestines of Channa sp. The research involved several steps, including sample preparation, LAB isolation, characterization, and purification of bacterial isolates, biochemical tests, temperature resistance tests, antimicrobial tests, haemolysis tests, lactic acid production tests, and cholesterol-lowering activity tests. Eight LAB isolates with potential probiotic characteristics were isolated and identified as the genus Lactobacillus, which are gram-positive bacteria that produce lactic acid during culture
