Abstract

Rantau village is a village that is not yet food secure in the Bengkayang district. Corn is one of the main village products but still uses conventional cultivation methods and has not implemented farming management, so its utilisation is not optimal. The crop yields in the form of shelled corn are sold to Singkawang at a price of IDR 4000 per kg. Lack of knowledge and skills, including corn diversification technology, is the reason why this village is not yet developed. The impact is that the use of corn to increase household food consumption patterns has not been carried out. One of the partners of this service program is the dissemination of technology to the community, one of which is PKK. The purpose of this service is to increase the knowledge and skills of PKK members so that they are able to improve food consumption patterns and initiate new income for families. The solution is to transfer processed diversification technology that is applied to food products, namely healthy noodles from corn and vegetables. Implementation methods include socialisation, technology dissemination, evaluation and monitoring. The target of this service is for at least 50% of PKK members to increase their knowledge of healthy noodles, apply noodle menus for social events, at least 3 PKK members and application for family food security, and at least 1 PKK member initiates commercialisation around the village.

Abstract

LOCAL FOOD INTRODUCTIONS INTO FISH PROCESSED PRODUCT AS A WAY TO ENHANCE COMPETITIVE VALUE. Bilayuk Village is one of 18.25% underdeveloped village with IDM (Village Development Index) score below 0.491. Based on Forum Group Discussion results with village officials, one of the main reasons is the village’s human resources lack of knowledge. The lack of human resources knowledge leads to unutilised village’s local food. The abundant and unutilised local foods are tubers and san-sankng leaves. The tuber has potential as filling agent to reduce the amount of fish use in fish processed product, and san-sankq leaves can be used as flavour enhancer substitute (MSG). Therefore, in this community service activity, we provide training and assistance to fish cultivators in Bilayuk village to process the harvest into hekeng which enriched with tubers filling and used san-sankq leaves for seasoning. The purpose of the activity is to increase local competitive value of Bilayuk village with increasing knowledge in fish processing by processed it into hekeng made from local food. The results showed that there is increasing knowledge since audience never made hekeng and processing food without flavour enhancer before, 77% target audience understand how to make hekeng, 22% target audience really like the result, and the rest of the audience just like the result. All audience are practising how to make hekeng for their family consumption. The audience are expected to have interest to make hekeng to increase their family income.

Abstract

Utilization of the Mempawah River for community activities can cause a decrease in water quality. Water quality monitoring can be carried out through a biological approach, namely by studying the structure of the plankton community. This study aims to analyze the community structure of phytoplankton and its relation to the physical and chemical parameters of the waters in the Mempawah River, West Kalimantan. The research was conducted from June to September 2021. The phytoplankton and physico-chemical parameters were sampled at six observation stations (St-). Phytoplankton found in the Mempawah River are 17 species classified into five classes, i.e., Chlorophyceae, Bachillariophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Zygnematophyceae, and Chrysophyceae. The average abundance of phytoplankton ranges from 10181-97031 cells/m3. The abundance at St-01, St-02, St-03, and St-04 was lower that at St-05 and St-06. The highest abundance at the first four stations was from the Cyanophyceae Order, and at St-05 and St-06 is from the Order Bachillariophyceae. The opposite condition occurs for the value of diversity, namely at the first four stations; it is higher than St-05 and St-06. The H’ index values is 0.35-1.41, the E index values is 0.26-0.73 and the C index values is 0.37-0.80. Phytoplankton abundance correlated significantly with three water quality parameters: brightness, phosphate, and nitrate, while diversity had no significant relationship with water quality parameters. Abstract

Kakap River Estuary plays an essential role in the life organisms, but it is vulnerable to environmental changes and pollution caused by human activities. This study aims to assess the presence of plankton species, their abundance and diversity as aquatic ecological bio-indicators in Kakap River Estuary. Plankton and water samples were taken for three months, with a frequency of one sample per month, viz. in March, April and June 2020 from four sampling stations in Kakap River Estuary, West Kalimantan. A total of 34 species of plankton were observed from all sampling sites, and identified to belong to 18 classes. Chlorophyceae had the highest relative abundance among the phytoplanktons (40.10%), followed by Bacillariophyceae (21.86%) and Cyanophyceae (19.28%). Oscillatoria sp. and Hydrodictyon sp. were the most dominant phytoplankton species. There were 8 classes of zooplankton identified from all sampling stations throughout the research period. Hexanauplia had the highest relative abundance among the zooplanktons (36.56%) followed by Euglenophyceae (24.37%). The plankton diversity index (H ′) values ranged between 2.33 -3.11. The plankton evenness index value ranged from 0.79 to 0.89 which indicates high plankton evenness at all samping stations, and this is supported by a low dominance index value at all stations ranging from 0.06-0.16. Station 1 had high Shannon-Wienner diversity index score, while for station 2, 3, 4, their scores were in the moderate level. Overall. the diversity index of the plankton from all sampling sites indicated that the quality of the water had no pollution to light pollution level. Keywords:PhytoplanktonZooplanktonWater quality

Abstract

The Malay Combtail fish (Belontia hasselti) is one of the dominant fish species in the Ambangah River that has the potential to be cultivated. This study aimed to determine the growth patterns and condition factor of the Malay Combtail fish (Belontia hasselti) in the Ambangah River, West Kalimantan. Fish samples were taken from May to August 2020 monthly. Parameters measured include total length, weight, sex ratio, and water quality. The results showed that the sex ratio between males and females was balanced (1:1.15). The growth pattern is negative allometric, and the population condition factor of the Malay Combtail fish for males, females, and a combination of both are more than one, which means good, and the magnitude is 1.77; 1.91 and 1.85. The water environmental factors namely temperature, brightness, and dissolved oxygen were still suitable for fish life, while the waters pH was in accordance with its natural condition (peat waters).
