Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the implementation of information gap activity as teaching strategy to improve speaking skill of the fifth semester cadet of Indonesian Civil Aviation Institutes. This classroom action research was conducted to solve those problems occurring in the speaking class. In collecting the data, researcher uses speaking scoring rubric and field notes. This research was conducted in two cycles focusing on the improvement of the students’ speaking performance and their positive attitude to the implementation of the information gap activity (IGA) as teaching strategy in the speaking class. Research result revealed that the use of IGA could improve the students’ speaking performance and give them positive attitude to the implementation of some activities given. The findings showed that the average score of the students’ speaking performance could achieve 81.54 from the determined score 75. In addition, it was also found that 90 % of the students showed positive attitude to the implementation of IGA in the speaking class. The implementation of IGA as teaching strategy in speaking class can cover a procedure of six phases: eliciting, setting context, modeling, pairing, controlled practiced and semi freer practiced. Based on the findings, it is concluded that teaching speaking skill by using IGA can improve students’ fluency.

Abstract

B.IndonesiaPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kegiatan refresher training terhadap kinerja personel pemandu lalu lintas udara pada unit approach control surveillance (Makassar Director) di Perum LPPNPI Cabang Makassar. Metode pada penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif melalui penelitian survei. Populasi terdiri dari 24 orang yang merupakan petugas pemandu lalu lintas udara di unit approach control surveillance (Makassar Director) sekaligus menjadi sample pada penelitian dengan teknik total sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa kuesioner. Hasil menunjukan bahwa terdapat koefisien korelasi (nilai r hitung) sebesar 0,774, nilai tersebut lebih besar dari r tabel 0,404 yang mengindikasikan adanya hubungan positif antara refresher training dan kinerja personel pemandu approach control surveillance. Sementara hasil uji hipotesis menunjukan nilai t hitung lebih besar dari t table yaitu 5,739 > 2.074 yang artinya terdapat pengaruh refresher training terhadap kinerja pemandu approach control surveillance. Data lain menunjukan bahwa koefisien determinasi diketahui sebesar 0,5990, artinya terdapat pengaruh refreseher training sebesar sebesar 60% terhadap kinerja.B.EnglishThe research was aiming at investigating the effect of refresher training toward performance of an Air Traffic Controller Officer at the approach control surveillance unit, Makassar Director. The research method used was a quantitative method through survey. Population of the research was all air traffic control officers in the approach control surveillance unit which consist of 24 people. Going through a total sampling technique, all people become sample of this research. The instrument of the research was questionnaires. Results showed that coeficient correlation (rcomputation) reached 0,774 higher than that of r table 0,404. It indicated that there was a positive relationship between refresher training and personeel performance. In a meanwhile, result of hypothesis test show the value of t computation was higher than t table namely 5,739 > 2.074 meaning that there was an effect of training toward performance. Another data showed that the value of determination coeficient was about 0,5990. It means that there was a positive influence of refreseher training toward performance of the personel

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to uncover there main research questions; how was the immersion program of ICAI conducted to improve English language skills?, How was the view point of the participant in carrying out the program, and how effective was the program to achieve English language skills. This research was analyzed descriptively by using questionnaire, observation, and interview. The results showed that the immersion program was well conducted and gave some improvement in the mastery of English language skills especially speaking skills. The participants also gave a positive point of view that it helped to improve their English expertise. Based on the questionnaire and observation, there are also several other improvements such as teaching techniques mastery, English delivery in content-area teaching and their confidence to use English as a means of communication for their content-area teaching in the classroom. In conclusion, the program has boosted the participants to increase their speaking skill.
