Abstract

Two fatty acid derivatives, 2-octenoic acid and 2-hexenoic acid were isolated from the extract of n-hexane of the Piper betle L. Var. Nigra (Piperaceae). The chemical structures were identified on the basis of spectroscopic evidence and compared to previously reported spectra. These isolated compounds appear for the first time in the plant.

Abstract

Hypertension is an increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure more than 140/90 mmHg. Honey has the potential to reduce blood pressure because it has 200 chemical substances. This study aims to ford the effectiveness of giving honey to reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels in hypertensive patients, as well as knowing the content of secondary metabolites found in honey. The research method used was semi quantitative with pre and post procedurs. Honey contains secondary metabolites of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. The results of the analysis of honey give a significant decrease in systolic pressure, diastole, heart rate and cholesterol levels. Consumption honey regularly effectively reduces blood pressure in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Thrush is an oral disease caused by bacterial and fungal infections. Treatment for this disease can be done by administering drugs that contain antimicrobial compounds. This study aims to test the ethanol extract of young areca nut against bacteria and fungi that cause Oral thrush. Young betel nut extract is obtained through maceration process using 96% ethanol. Then the activity of the Streptococcus sanguis bacteria and Candida albican fungus was tested. This test used the well method which was carried out on 5 variations of the concentration of young areca nut extract (2.5%; 5%; 7.5%; 10% and 15%) with one negative control (Na CMC). The results of the antimicrobial activity of young areca nut extract showed that young areca nut extract can inhibit Streptococcus sanguis bacteria with inhibition value are (9,961; 11,319; 13,390; 14,184; 14,704 mm) and Candida albican fungus are (7,482; 10,923; 14,695; 15,742; 17,325 mm) on 5 variations of the concentration.

Abstract

Recurrent Aftose Stomatitis (RAS) or sprue is one of the most common diseases of the oral mucosa. One of the contributing factor is the infection of Streptococcus sanguinis and Candida albicans. Black betel leaf contains a group of secondary metabolites that are used as antimicrobials . Gel is a good conductive preparation on mucouse membran. One of the factors that influence the physical properties of gel is the gelling agent. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of HEC variation as a gelling agents on the physical properties of black betel leaf extract gel. Black betel leaf extract was obtained by maceration with 70% ethanol solvent. The gel was formulated into four formula with variations in HEC consentration is 1%, 1,5%, 2% and 2,5%. The antimicrobial activity of the extracts used the diffusion method of the wells. Tests of physical properties used organoleptic tests, homogenity, pH, spreadability and viscosity. The results showed that black betel leaf extract at a concentration of 2.5% was able to inhibit Streptococcus sanguinis and Candida albicans. An increase in HEC concentration can cause increase in the viscosity and decrease in the spreadibility, but does not affect organoleptics, homogenity and pH of the preparation. The best formula produced is formula F3 with 2% HEC composition.

Abstract

Betel plant is a terna plant that can be used as an antifungal, antimicrobial and antioxidant. Black betel leaf is proven to contain secondary metabolites of alkaloids, carotenoids, phenolic compounds, flavanoids, saponins, tannins, steroids, and triterpenoids. Gel preparations are used aimed at prolonging the contact time of the preparation with the target location, extending the absorption time and increasing the therapeutic effect. This study aims to determine the characteristics of gel extract of black betel leaf. Black betel leaf extract was obtained by macerating with 70% ethanol into an oral gel preparation as an antimicrobial with carbopol concentration variations. The results of antimicrobial test showed that 5% concentration of black betel leaf extract could increase the growth of Streptoccus sanguinis with inhibition zone diameter 6.261 ± 1.425mm and Candida albicans with inhibition zone diameter 5.152 ± 0.952mm. Black betel leaf extract gel formula F3 with 1.5% carbopol concentration is the best formula that has greenish black, betel and mint flavored, and has a thick and homogeneous shape. It has a viscosity of 2.266 Pa.s, has a pH of 5.37 and spread power 4.37cm.

Abstract

Hypertension is a disease characterized by an increase in blood pressure in systolic and diastolic blood vessels that exceeds the normal blood pressure on repeated examinations. Pineapple and honey empirically and scientifically can be efficacious for lowering blood pressure. The purpose of this study was to look at the characteristics of age, gender, smoking habits, exercise habits as well as the history of hypertension patient's disease and the effect and effectiveness of the administration of pineapple honey juice to reduce blood pressure in patients with hypertension at UPTD Tresanti Werdha Nirwana Puri Samarinda and on Jl. S.Parman 1 RT. 02 & RT. 03 Kelurahan Gunung Kelua Samarinda. The research design used was the Pretest and Posttest One Design Group, to as many as 9 patients. The study was conducted for 7 days, then every day patients were given treatment in the form of giving pineapple juice as much as 200 grams and 20 mL honey once a day and blood pressure was measured before and after treatment. The results of this study indicate a decrease in blood pressure in hypertensive patients who consume honey combination pineapple fruit juice.

Abstract

Diarrhea is a major cause of death in developing countries where changes in movement in the normal intestine are characterized by increased water content, volume, or frequency of bowel movements. This study aims to determine the antidiarrheal activity of honey and the combination of honey with guava leaf (Psidium guajava L.) infusion on mice. The method used is the protection method induced by Oleum Ricini. The results showed that honey 20 g / kgBB and a combination of honey 20g / kgBB with 30% Guava Leaf Infusion can provide antidiarrheal activity in mice.

Abstract

Honey contains Vitamin C which is a natural antioxidant which can have the effect of lowering total cholesterol levels in the blood. This study aims to determine the characteristics of gender, age, and occupation of hypercholesterolemic respondents and to determine the effect of honey administration on reducing total cholesterol levels of hypercholesterolemic respondents in Palaran District, Samarinda. The research method used is quasy experimental and research procedures by measuring before and after being given treatment. Data collection on the characteristics of respondents obtained the highest percentage of women as much as 80%, age 46-55 years as much as 40%, and housewives as much as 75%. The results of descriptive analysis of total cholesterol levels in the pre-test gave an average result of 224.9 mg / dL and the post-test gave an average result of 202.1 mg / dL. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that honey can have an effect on reducing total cholesterol levels in the blood.

Abstract

Black betel leaves are widely used for various treatments, one of which is oral diseases such as gingivitis and dental caries by Indonesians. The purpose of this study was to determine the class of compounds and to find the best eluent for the separation of compounds from methanol extract. This research begins with extraction using the maceration method withmethanolsolvent. The extract obtained was tested using analytical TLC to find the best eluent. After obtaining the best eluent, the partition extraction of black betel leaf methanol extract was carried out using ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate soluble and ethyl acetate insoluble extractswere separated then the three extracts were continued with the identification of the compounds by analytical TLC using the two best eluent comparisons that had been done previously and then observed under UV light 254 nm and 366 nm after that sprayed using Dragendorff reagent and FeCl3. The best eluent analysis result of ethyl acetate partition of black betel leaf methanol extract was n-hexane:ethyl acetate (6:4, 3:1) and TLC analysis showed that the compounds contained were alkaloids and phenolic.

Abstract

Problems on the skin of the lips are often found such as cracked, which can be solved by routinely using lip scrubs because dead skin cells on the lips need to be excreted. Honey can be used as a moisturizer in pharmaceutical preparations because of its humecant and emollient properties. This study aims to find out if honey can be used as a lip moisturizer and find out how to formulate lip scrub preparations from optimum honey. This research method was conducted experimentally, namely testing the moisture of honey on the lips using a skin analyzer. Then the formulation of lip scrub preparations with variations in honey concentration and physical stability testing which includes organoleptic test, homogeneity, pH, and spread of preparations conducted for 28 days, in addition to being conducted irritant test preparations for 2 days in a row. The results obtained by honey moisture testing on the lips increased water content by 17.6%. The results on the organoleptic test evaluation were brown, oleum rosae smell, and sweet taste. Homogeneity test to determine the homogeneity of lip scrub preparations in the absence of clumping materials that are not dissolved. pH test obtained is a stable semi-solid lip scrub preparation that is at pH 6. Spreadability test obtained diameter of 4 cm. Based on the results of evaluation on lip scrub preparations that have good physical quality and stable in F2 with honey concentration of 6%.
