Abstract

Two problems arising in determining an appropriate glaucoma therapy are when to treat and how to treat. Open-angle glaucoma is treated when damage to the optic nerve has been demonstrated in the form of progressive pathologic cupping and or characteristic visual field defects, or when pressure is elevated to an extent that is likely to cause damage to the optic nerve. On the other hand, the interrelationship between medical and surgical therapy (argon laser trabeculoplasty & drainage surgery) is complex. Initial treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma has commonly been medical, with surgery undertaken only if medical treatment fails or is not well tolerated. However, this assumption is currently under study; in some cases initial surgery may prove to be more beneficial. Hence, review article was made to prove how beneficial medical or surgical treatment is.Key words: Primary open-angle glaucoma - medical therapy - argon laser trabeculoplasty - drainage surgery

Abstract

Glaucoma is an Important cause of blindness, in particular neovascular glaucoma which is a complex condition and always becomes challenging for the clinician in the past, present and the future. A 54-year-old man suffering from blindness of neovascular glaucoma following central retinal vein occlusion in the right eye with no response to Pan Retinal Photocoagulation (PRP) and open angle glaucoma in the left eye has been reported. Systemic conditions as a predisposing factor were not found, so the local ocular background i.e open angle glaucoma was suspected to be the cause of central retinal vein occlusion. In this case the management must be focused on the left eye to avoid further complication. The right eye was on end stage and no response to PRP and the visual acuity Is no light perception (NLP). Enucleation should be considered as the high intraocular pressure (IOP) and ocular pain persisted.Key words: neovascular glaucoma - central retinal vein occlusion - open angle glaucoma - Pan retinal photocoagulation

Abstract

The life cycle of an unidentified Eimeria sp. from domestic chickens in Malaysia was studied. Sporulation of oocysts was completed in 34 hours at room temperature (30° C). Oocysts are ellipsoidal to ovoid averaging 21 by 18 millimicron with a yellowish double waIl. There is a polar granule. Sporocystsare elongated and ovoid averaging 11 by 6 millimicron in size with a Stieda .body and containing a sporocysts residuum.First generation schizonts develop throughout the intestine, mainly in the crypt of Lieberktihn but also in the muscularis muscosae, lamina propria and epithelial cells above the host nucleus. About 1.4 morozoites are produced.Second generations also develop throughout the intestine, mainly in the lamina propria, below the host nucleus. About 12 morozoites are produced.Gametoytes are most numerous in the mid-intestine, large intestine and cecum and are mainly in the lamina propria.Pathogenicity was mild. Diarrhea and mucoid edema were the only clinical signs observed and the infection was self-limiting, ending after about 20 days.

Abstract

A market survey found ± 7 companies registered to assemble refrigerators, with annual production capacity 600,000 units (1995) using CFC 12 as a refrigerant. The Association of Indonesia Electric Appliance Manufacturers and Suppliers has decided to convert refrigerant from CFC 12 to HFC 134a by January 1998. The influence of ODS and non ODS substances in refrigerators on energy consumption has been performed. The energy consumption of a manually defrost, single door, 150 Liter typical capacity refrigerators were measured at the Refrigerator Testing Laboratory University of Indonesia based on the protocol of ISO 7371 (E) 1995 under the ambient temperature of 30 "C with relative humidity between 60 % to 75 %.The averaged energy consumption of 7 units CFC-refrigerator were between 1. 11 and 1.38 kWh/24h, and for the HFC 134a-refrigerators between 1.03 and 1.22 kWh/24h. The energy consumption differences were approximately between 2 to 16 %.

Abstract

Character education is one of the main goals of education. Character education is important due to the common believe that there is the degeneration of ethic and moral of the learners, and also due the rise of juvenile delinquency. Then, character education comes to recover it. Character education can be integrated in various aspects, such as in study al-Qur’ān. The integration between character education and the interpretation of al-Qur’an will make new insight of character education. Moreover, it will be strengthened by the words of Allah. This particular research is intended to reveal whether studies about character education in al-Qur’an will provide a particular kind of character education based on Qur’anic verses, and whether there is any relevance between character education as presented in Qur’anic verses with those presented in curriculum 2013?. To answer these questions, the researcher used descriptive comparative approach, library research as the kind of research, and the use of documentary for collecting the data. This study shows that there are some character education as presented in Qur’anic verses and that there is a  relevance between character education values in curriculum 2013 and character education in Qur’anic verses. From the relevance, it is concluded that the character education as presented in Qur’anic verses suggest similar goals as the character education value in curriculum 2013.
