Abstract

This study aims to analyze the opportunities and challenges of Merdeka Belajar as a national education program for high school teachers nationally. Teachers’ problem in implementing Merdeka Belajar (Freedom of Learning) curriculum lacks understanding of the procedures. This happened because there was no structural explanation regarding the differences between the curriculum they had been running so far and Merdeka Belajar curriculum. Many problems arise when implementing the curriculum that the education they have been running has made students dependent. In this context, this study questions how high school sociology teachers’ opportunities and challenges in facing Merdeka Belajar curriculum in the fourth industrial revolution (industry 4.0)? This study aims to identify problems and strategies for teachers in facing the new paradigm of Merdeka Belajar. This study’s analysis is based on theories such as those from Neill, Rogers, Freire, Boal, Giroux, and Knowles to critically analyze the pedagogical paradigm of national education that teachers have used. This study uses Knowles’s theory of andragogy to explore the notion of Merdeka Belajar. This study’s qualitative research method includes observation of the teacher-student relationship and interviews with several high school teachers in Karanganyar, Central Java. Besides, document studies related to Merdeka Belajar program are also used to understand the policy context. This study found that teachers did not realize that they had been using a pedagogical paradigm (education for children) for high school-level children who had grown up. When they switched to Merdeka Belajar curriculum, they also did not know that the paradigm they should be using is andragogy (education for adults). In this situation, they improvised as best they could to implement Merdeka Belajar. The teachers only carry out orders from the school. However, the school is still trying to understand how it works based on structural orders without clarity. Students’ dependence on teachers has become the cause of teachers’ difficulty to move out of the pedagogical paradigm into andragogy. In this situation, the teachers tried to do their best to implement Merdeka Belajar program during the Covid-19 pandemic. Teachers and schools must also face all infrastructural barriers and socioeconomic conditions with limited online learning access.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the role of Kreasso's activities as an effort to maintain traditional arts in the era of globalization. This research is a qualitative research, with a qualitative descriptive approach. Data analysis used Miles and Huberman analysis which consisted of 3 stages: (1) Data Reduction, (2) Data Display, and (3) Conclusion Drawing/ verification. This study uses the Structural-Functional theory proposed by Alfred Reginald Radcliffe Brown. The results of this study indicate that the existence of Kreasso's activities is able to grow students' dignity and concern for the social environment, especially traditional arts. This is evidenced by the participation of students who play an active role in the structural units of Kreasso's activities. Apart from that, it cannot be separated from the existence of activity actors, such as the Surakarta City Education Office as the person in charge of Kreasso activities; the Kreasso committee which generally consists of several divisions with different functions or roles, the teacher acts as a companion to the students; students act as participants with different assignments depending on the policies and authorities of each school. Each of them finds out how it works according to the function or role according to the position and position that cooperates with one another.

Abstract

The increasing growth of creative economy actors has also encouraged high interest in jobs in the creative industry as freelance workers. This research is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. The phenomenological approach aims to describe the social actions that occur in freelance workers at ISI Surakarta. This qualitative research uses the purposive sampling technique and data collection using in-depth interviews and portfolio observation. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's analysis techniques, namely interactive data analysis and Max Weber's social action theory. Students who work freelance do so consciously with careful consideration of the consequences obtained from freelance work. Freelance work has also become a genetic and cultural heritage of ISI students themselves. The facts found in the field show that freelance work in the ISI Surakarta environment belongs to social acts of instrumental and traditional rationality.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan memahami dan menjelaskan peran yang dimainkan Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) dalam mencegah dan mengatasi kebiasaan merokok di kalangan siswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui studi dokumen, observasi, dan wawancara mendalam. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan kerangka teori sistem yang dikembangkan oleh Talcott Parsons. Kesimpulan yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut: (1) Dipahami sebagai sebuah sistem, sekolah tersusun atas sub-sistem ekonomi, politik, dan sosial yang dijalankan oleh aktor dengan peran spesifik namun terkait satu sama lain; (2) Pada hierarki birokrasi negara, sekolah adalah pelaksana kebijakan yang disusun oleh birokrasi di atasnya; (3) Siswa perokok terbagi atas perokok aktif, meniru teman sebaya, coba-coba, dan untuk bergaya; (4) Peran sekolah dalam mengatasi perilaku merokok siswa dijalankan oleh kepala sekolah, wakasek kesiswaan, guru BK/Konselor, dan guru wali kelas. Masih ditemukan beberapa celah yang membuat siswa dapat merokok di dalam maupun di luar sekolah seperti penjagaan dan pengawasan terhadap siswa yang kurang maksimal, tidak adanya pemberian bimbingan yang berkelanjutan, kerjasama dengan orang tua yang kurang intens, dan masih terdapat beberapa guru yang merokok di sekolah.

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mendiskripsikan peran komite sekolah dalam upaya peningkatan mutu pendidikan di SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif, dengan teknik pengumpulan data wawancara mendalam. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik analisis data kualitatif model Miles Huberman. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa disfungsi tugas komite sekolah sebagai penindaklanjut aspirasi masyarakat tidak mempengaruhi turunnya mutu pendidikan di SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta. Hal ini karena perangkat pendidikan SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta sebagai sebuah sistem sosial bersifat otopoietik yang dapat memperbaharui ketidakberfungsian pada salah satu atau beberapa subsistem pendidikan. Partisipasi diperluas dalam berbagai aspek baik sarana, prasarana, maupun kerajasama dengan stake holderThe role of school committees in improving the quality of education: Studies at SMP Negeri 1 SurakartaThis study aims to reveal the role of the school committee in efforts to improve the quality of education in SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques by interview. Data analysis was performed using the Milles Huberman analysis technique model. The conclusion of this study is the dysfunction in the school committee's duties as a follow-up role for community aspirations does not affect the decline in the quality of education at Surakarta 1 Public Junior High School. This is because the educational apparatus of Surakarta 1 Public Junior High School as a social system is autopoietic which can renew the malfunctioning in one or several of its subsystems. Participation is expanded in various aspects, including facilities, infrastructure, and cooperation with stakeholders

Abstract

The purifying tradition carried out by the Sekar Village community is always accompanied by a traditional ceremony called Ceprotan. This Ceprotan traditional ceremony only exists in Sekar Village. Its implementation load with folklore values that the local people believe. This study aimed to know the meaning of the Ceprotan tradition for the people of Sekar village. This research used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The intake of informants was done through the purposive sampling technique. Data obtained using both secondary and polymer data. Data collection techniques used were interviews, observation, and documentation. To ensure the validity of the data, the researcher used source triangulation techniques on the data obtained. The data were then analyzed with cultural interpretation techniques or the "thick description" approach by Clifford Geertz to interpret the symbol systems of cultural meaning in a deep painting. This study's findings were that the village's purifying tradition accompanied by the Ceprotan traditional ceremony carried out by the Sekar Village community, especially Krajan Lor and Krajan Kidul Hamlets, was done as an expression of gratitude, hope, and prayer to God Almighty for good things. Based on cultural practitioners' symbolic activities that appeared and were interpreted, this tradition was also carried out as a form of appreciation and reminder to the ancestors of Sekar Village, which until now is believed by the community as Danyang who consider influencing the survival of the local people. This belief contains in the folklore of the origin of Sekar Village. It continues to maintain as a form of refinement of the customs and culture of Sekar Village.

Abstract

This research aims at analyzing changes on the welfare level and consumption patterns among Jenitri (Elaeocarpus ganitrus) farmers in Pujotirto, Karangsambung, Kebumen regency of Centra Java- Indonesia. Using mix-method, this research combined quantitative method and that of qualitative. Quantitative data was collected by a survey involving 20 respondents which were selected purposively. Qualitative data was collected by a series of in-depth interviews with farmers and traders of jenitri. Quantitative data was analyzed descriptively. Interview data was transcripted and analyzed by using domain analysis technique. The research resulted in following conclusions: (1) the cultivation of jenitri has brought about significant changes in farmers’  welfare; (2) the raised welfare level affects the pattern of household’s consumption; (3) prior to cultivating jenitri, farmers’ household tend to be subsistence-oriented; (4) now that they cultivate jenitri, they are driven to meet secondary and tertiary needs, such as motorcycles and jewelries.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the role of Sraddha Sala Community activities in preserving Javanese literature in Surakarta City. The approach used is descriptive qualitative. The object of this research is the Sraddha Sala Community which is engaged in the preservation of Javanese literature. Sources of data in this study are people who are directly and indirectly involved in the activities of the Sraddha Sala Community. In collecting the data, the author uses several data collection techniques, namely documentation, observation, interviews. Analysis of the data in this study using analytical techniques from Milles and Huberman, by going through several paths, namely data condensation, data presentation, conclusion drawing/verification. In this study, the researchers focused on the activities carried out by the Sraddha Sala Community as an effort to preserve Javanese literature. In carrying out the activity, there are several factors that affect the running of the activity, namely: founder, network, cultural awareness. These factors greatly affect Sraddha's activities which include: Research, Classes, field studies, and Writing on social media. The activities of the Sraddha Sala Community as an effort to preserve Javanese literature are open to the general public.

Abstract

This study investigated the stereotypes of female online motorcycle taxi drivers, who pinned the stereotype of female online motorcycle taxi drivers, and why the stereotype of female online motorcycle taxi drivers in Surakarta emerged. This study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Sources of data used were primary data sources and secondary data sources—the data collected by interviews and observations. The informant retrieval technique used was snowball sampling and purposive sampling. This study indicated that (1) The stereotype of online motorcycle taxi drivers arises from a sub-culture in a society where men are closely related to masculine characteristics while women are feminine. So, working as a driver in a society closely related to masculine people creates stereotypes for women. (2) In the process, the stereotype of female online motorcycle taxi drivers appeared in most of the people who interacted with them, such as customers, fellow online motorcycle taxi drivers, and their families. (3) The reason for the emergence of a stereotype among female motorcycle taxi drivers is that women's driving proficiency is not the same as men's. In general, women who drive on a man are considered less common in some societies. Especially if the female drivers still receive orders at night, some community members and fellow male drivers consider it to be precarious and endangering to women. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana stereotip driver ojek online perempuan, siapa yang menyematkan stereotip driver ojek online perempuan dan mengapa stereotip driver ojek online perempuan di Kota Surakarta muncul. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Sumber data yang digunakan adalah sumber data primer dan sumber data sekunder. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa (1) Stereotip pada driver ojek online muncul dari adanya sub budaya dalam masyarakat bahwa laki-laki erat dengan sifat maskulin sedangkan perempuan dengan sifat feminim. Sehingga, ranah pekerjaan sebagai driver yang di masyarakat erat dengan kaum maskulin membuat munculnya stereotip pada perempuan. (2) Dalam prosesnya stereotip terhadap driver ojek online perempuan muncul pada sebagian besar orang yang berinteraksi dengannya seperti customer, rekan sesama driver ojek online dan keluarga. (3) Alasan munculnya sebuah stereotip pada driver ojek perempuan berkaitan dengan kemahiran dalam mengemudi perempuan tidak sama dengan kaum laki-laki. Secara umum perempuan yang memboncengkan seorang laki-laki dianggap kurang lazim bagi sebagian masyarakat.Terlebih jika di malam haridriver perempuan yang masih gadis masih menerima orderan hal tersebut dianggap oleh sebagian masyarakat maupun dari teman sesama driver laki-laki sangat beresiko dan membahayakan diri perempuan.

Abstract

During distance learning (PJJ), teachers have difficulty developing creativity regarding the online learning process, especially when compiling learning media. Service activities were carried out by the Eduscape Group Research team from the Sebelas Maret University FKIP together with the Sociology MGMP of Karanganyar Regency as an effort to optimize online learning. The learning media provided by Google for Education, especially Google Slides, was chosen to be the main target for the preparation of virtual classes because it has flexibility, ease of use, and is easily accessible by both teachers and students. The method of implementing service activities is carried out in the meeting room of SMA Negeri Karangpandan, Karanganyar Regency, face to face with stringent health protocols. Service activities consist of material presentation, demonstration, mentoring and collection of virtual class results. The result of this activity is that teachers can compose and use and create learning media through various online platforms (google slides, online quizzes, pdf converters, exploration of material content on youtube) to prepare virtual classes.
