Abstract

Abstract. Jesus’ baptism does not only refer to His divine role, but moreover to His divine identity. This is a theological declaration that He is God. However, Marcus J. Borg asserted that Jesus’ baptism was Jesus’ deep spiritual awareness toward spiritual world and the presence of God’s Spirit in His life. This does not indicate His divinity at all. Based on these two contradictory views, a problem remains to be solved: Is Borg’s assumption correct? What is actually Jesus’ true intention in His baptism? This was the focus of the research. This writing exerted to describe particularly Borg’s view on Jesus’ baptism, analyzed and responded to his view according to evangelical perspective. Despite the fact that Borg’s view on Jesus’ baptism has widely garnered support from modern theological readers, his theology is still far from orthodox theology because it was too socio-anthropological based analysis and ignored the Bible as God’s revelation.Abstrak. Baptisan Tuhan Yesus bukan hanya merujuk kepada fungsi jabatan-Nya, tapi lebih daripada itu, yaitu kepada identitas ilahi-Nya. Ini merupakan sebuah deklarasi teologis bahwa Ia adalah Allah. Tetapi Marcus J. Borg menyatakan bahwa baptisan Yesus sebagai sebuah kesadaran spiritual Yesus yang mendalam akan dunia roh dan kehadiran Roh Allah dalam hidup-Nya. Hal ini sama sekali tidak mengindikasikan keilahian-Nya. Mengaitkan kedua pandangan yang bertolakbelakang ini, muncul permasalahan: benarkah asumsi Borg di atas? Apakah sebenarnya yang menjadi intensi Yesus dalam peristiwa baptisan tersebut? Inilah yang menjadi fokus penelitian penulis. Tulisan ini berusaha untuk memaparkan secara khusus pandangan Borg dalam peristiwa baptisan Yesus dan menganalisis serta menanggapi pandangannya menurut perspektif injili. Terlepas dari pandangan Borg yang digemari di kalangan pembaca teologi modern tentang baptisan Yesus, pemikirannya masih jauh dari teologi ortodoks oleh karena terlalu berpijak pada analisis secara sosio-antropologis dan mengabaikan Alkitab sebagai wahyu dari Allah.

Abstract

Abstract. Christ's victory over trials is an example, comfort, and assurance of believers' victory over their trials. Regarding His human nature, it was clear that the trials which Christ experienced were real trials. Yet the doctrine of Christ's impeccability, based on His divine nature, affirms that Christ was not only sinless, but could not sin also. From the point the problem arises: how can these two concepts - the reality of Christ's temptation and impeccability - be harmonized? Through a literature review carried out by discussing various opinions, both those that support the impeccability and those that reject it, it was concluded that there was no contradiction between Christ's impeccability and the reality of the trials he experienced. The impeccability of Christ is the essence of his eligibility to be our High Priest.Abstrak. Kemenangan Kristus atas pencobaan merupakan teladan, penghiburan, dan jaminan akan kemenangan orang-orang percaya atas pencobaan yang mereka alami. Berkaitan dengan natur kemanusiaan-Nya, tampak jelas bahwa pencobaan yang Kristus alami adalah pencobaan yang nyata. Namun doktrin impekabilitas Kristus, dengan berpijak pada natur ilahi-Nya, menegaskan bahwa Kristus bukan hanya tidak berdosa, tetapi Ia tidak dapat berdosa. Dengan demikian timbul masalah: bagaimana mungkin kedua hal ini – realitas pencobaan dan impekabilitas Kristus – merupakan kebenaran yang harmonis? Melalui kajian literatur yang dijalankan dengan cara mendiskusikan berbagai pendapat, baik yang mendukung pandangan impekabilitas maupun yang menolak, disimpulkan bahwa tiada kontradiksi antara impekabilitas Kristus dengan realitas pencobaan yang Ia alami. Impekabilitas Kristus sebagai esensi kelayakannya menjadi Imam Agung bagi kita.

Abstract

Abstract. Responding to the spirit of Liberalism who overruled his age, Karl Barth exerted to “save” the Scripture from the mocking of liberal theologians. One of Barth’s positive influences is that the Scripture resumed to be respected as a media where God reveals himself. However, Barth unfortunately treated the Scripture as no more than testimonies about God. To Barth, the Bible is fallible because it is written by men. This is the focus of this study. This writing endeavors to articulate Barth’s concept of the Bible (also known as neo-orthodoxy) and provides critical analysis and arguments towards Barth’s view, especially related with the nature of the Bible. Through this study it can be concluded that Barth's thoughts about the Bible are heavily influenced by existentialism, and therefore are subjective.Abstrak. Menyikapi semangat Liberalisme yang melanda zamannya, Karl Barth berusaha “menyelamatkan: Kitab Suci dari hinaan para teolog liberal. Salah satu pengaruh Barth yang positif adalah dihormatinya kembali Kitab Suci sebagai media Allah menyatakan diri-Nya.  Walaupun demikian, sangat disayangkan bahwa Barth memandang Kitab Suci tidak lebih dari sekadar kesaksian tentang Allah. Bagi Barth, Alkitab memiliki kapasitas kesalahan karena ditulis oleh manusia. Ini menjadi fokus penelitian penulis. Tulisan ini berusaha memaparkan konsepsi Barth (atau yang dikenal sebagai neo-ortodoksi) tentang Alkitab dan memberikan analisis dan argumentasi kritis terhadap pandangan ini, khususnya berkaitan dengan natur Alkitab. Melalui kajian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemikiran Barth tentang Alkitab sangat dipengaruhi oleh eksistensialisme, dan karenanya bersifat subyektif.
