Abstract

Mineral content of the soil determines various properties including nutrient that can bereleased during the weathering process. The research to identify the minerals in Andisol developedfrom the eruption of Mt. Tangkuban Parahu and Mt. Patuha had been conducted to determine theminerals content in the sand fraction. This research was conducted in several steps: the field survey,soil sampling, and laboratory analysis. The field locations were in the forest of Cikole, Lembang,West Java derived from the eruption Mt. Tangkuban Parahu and in the forest of Patengan,Rancabali, West Java derived from the eruption of Mt. Patuha. Sand fraction was separated from siltand clay by wet sieving method, using the 50 micron siever. Microscopic observation for identifyingthe minerals was done with polarization microscope to the color, luster, shape of grains and crystals,cleavage, hardness, transparency, translucent, and magnetic properties. The results showed that thesand fraction of Andisol derived from Mt. Tangkuban Parahu and Mt. Patuha had the mineralcontent as hypersthene, diopside, orthoclase, oligoclase, anorthite, andesine, hornblende, biotite,quartz, corundum, magnetite dan sulphur, showed that the weathering those minerals cancontribute some nutrients like Mg, Ca, K Fe, and S to the soilKey words: hyperstene, diopside, anorthite, hornblende, biotite

Abstract

Andisols are considered as productive soils, but their P-retention have to be reduced to increase the available P.  This research concerning the remediation of Andisols with steel slag and bokashi of husk to overcome the P problem and to investigate their  influence  to soil physical aspects.  The treatments were arranged in Randomized Block Designed in factorial pattern with two factors: steel slag and bokashi of husk, consisted of four level: 0, 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 % of soil weight (w/w). The treatments were repeated twice, brought a combination of 4 x 4 x 2.  The soils with each treatments were mixed thoroughly, filled into the polybags, watered to the field capacity, closed tightly, incubated for four months, and sampled for chemical and physical analyses. The parameters were P-retention, bulk density, permeability and aggregate stability.  The result showed that steel slag and bokashi of  husk were interacted in decreasing P-retention.  These combination had no effect to soil physical characteristics which mean that the treatments did not aggravate the bulk density, soil permeability and aggregate stability. The remediation of Andisol with steel slag and bokashi of husk decreased the P-retention, and kept the good aspects of soil physical characteristics.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh terak baja dan bokashi sekam padi terhadap air tersedia, biomassa tanaman serta hubungan air tersedia dengan biomassa tanaman cabai merah setelah vegetatif akhir pada Andisol, Lembang. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Pola Faktorial dengan dua faktor. Faktor pertama terak baja dan faktor kedua bokashi sekam padi masing- masing 4 taraf : 0%, 2,5%, 5,0%, dan 7,5%, diulang dua kali. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terjadi interaksi antara terak baja dengan bokashi sekam padi terhadap air tersedia dan biomassa tanaman cabai merah setelah vegetatif akhr serta terdapat hubungan antara air tersedia (X) dengan biomassa tanaman cabai merah (Y). Kombinasi terak baja dosis 2,5% (t1) dan bokashi sekam padi dosis 7,5% (b3) merupakan kombinasi terbaik untuk meningkatkan kapasitas air tersedia pada cabai merah, sedangkan kombinasi perlakuan terak baja 5,0% (t2) dan bokashi sekam padi 5,0% (b2) merupakan kombinasi terbaik untuk meningkatkan biomassa tanaman cabai merah. Kata Kunci: Terak baja/ Bokashi sekam padi/ Air tersedia/ Biomassa tanaman/ Cabai merah
