Abstract

It is really important, since the possible use of these pangasiid hybrids in aquaculture faces the problem of potential impact on wild population. Therefore, it is urgently needed to provide quick identification tools in the field. This study investigated morphological characters of Pangasius djambal and Pangasianodon hypophthalmus and their hybrids. A detailed morphological analysis using 32 morphometric measurements and five meristic counts was done on the hybridization of P. djambal and P. hypophthalmus. Morphometric analysis and meristic counts showed that the reciprocal hybrids have intermediate characters except for gill raker number in which lower than that of parental species. In general, the hybrids have tendency to be like P. hypophthalmus rather than P. djambal. The only typical character of P. djambal appeared on hybrids is teeth shape, both vomerine and palatine. It is clearly defined that the true hybrids have seven pelvic fin rays.

Abstract

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the genetic diversity of three populations of Snakeskin Gourami (Trichopodus pectoralis;Osphronemidae)from three provinces of Indonesian Borneo:West, Central, and South Kalimantan using Random Amplified Polymorphism DNA (RAPD) and morphometric truss methods.DNA amplification using primer OPC-02,OPC-05,and OPA-09 resulted in 21 to 28 fragments with sizes ranged from 200 to 1600 bp, polymorphism value was of 7.14 to 25.00%, heterozygosity was of 0.02 to 0.11 and the genetic distance between populations was of 0.27 to 0.28.Truss morphometrics analysis showed that the coefficient of variability was ranging between 2.75 to 12.52%.There were 9 characters that can be used as diagnostic characters for Snakeskin Gourami. The intra population similarity index in Snakeskin Gourami populations from West Kalimantan was the highest (80%) followed by populations from Central Kalimantan (16.7%) and South Kalimantan (3.3%).The results of RAPD and truss morphometric analysis suggested that populations from West Kalimantan have higher genetic diversity than populations from Central and South Kalimantan.

Abstract

In order to manage genetic resources for aquaculture development of snakehead fishChannastriata(Bloch, 1793), genetic variability of three populations from different geographical areas is needed to be understood. The purpose of this study was to identify the genotype and fenotype of snakehead fish from Jawa, Sumatera and Kalimantan using RAPD and “Truss” morphometric. RAPD method used OPA-02, OPA-04 and OPA-07 primers. While twenty one measurement of truss morphometric was done on the body of fish observed. The results showed that population from Java had higher percentage of polymorphism and heterozygosity than those of Sumatera and Kalimantan, accounted for 83.33% and 0.3655 respectively. Population from Kalimantan and Sumatera had the lowest genetic distance of 0.1170.Meanwhile,the highest genetic distance (0.1908) was observed between population from Kalimantan and Java.Interpopulation relation based on the similarity of truss morphometric population from Sumatera and Kalimantan was 50%. However, those populations had similarity of 24.96% with population from Java. Coefficient variation of morphometric data showed that variation of population from Kalimantan was higher than those of Jawa and Sumatera.

Abstract

Rock bream Oplegnathus fasciatus is one of marine fish species with high commercial value in the region of East Asia. However, studies on the metabolism related to environmental factors for this species is still lacking. This study was therefore aimed to assess the effects of salinity and temperature on oxygen consumption (OC) of rock bream (TL: 26.9±0.6 cm, BW: 477.3±61.9 g) was observed by using respiratory chamber to understand the optimal salinity and temperature for culture of rock bream. Research was conducted in Pukyong National University, Busan, South Korea. Four experimental groups were conducted to measure oxygen consumption (OC) according to salinity (35, 25, 15, and 35?5 psu) and temperature changes (15?20?25oC). The results showed that low salinity exposures tend to decrease OC of rock bream (87.1, 78.3, 66.3, and 58.5 mg O2/kg/h at 35, 25, 15, and 5 psu, respectively). Meanwhile, the oxygen consumption of rock bream increased with increasing water temperatures (35 psu: 64.7, 104.0, and 175.9 mg O2/kg/h at 15, 20, and 25oC, respectively; 25 psu: 45.8, 101.7, and 185.9 mg O2/kg/h at 15, 20, and 25oC, respectively; 15 psu: 29.8, 103.3, and 155.5 mg O2/kg/h at 15, 20, and 25oC, respectively).

Abstract

One way to support the increase of aquaculture production is to produce superior strains of growth. Carp as one of the potential for these commodities only rely on local strains which have had a decline in quality. For that, the effort to generate superior growth of carp need to be done. One way to do that is by hybridization. We carried out reciprocal crosses of 4 strains of carp Rajadanu, Subang, Majalaya and Kuningan to obtain 16 new strain candidates. Furthermore, growth test was conducted to find out the best candidate of the absolute and specific growth parameters. From these results, it was concluded that the absolute growth in length, weight, and the highest biomass obtained by crosses of SB x RD, the highest length and weight Specific Growth Rate obtained by crosses of RD x MJ. For the highest degree of survival is at the intersection of KN x SB, whereas the highest survival rate in the use of female parent KN. In the dominant male of female survival is the parent SB. The biggest positive heterosis character length growth values obtained by crosses of SB x RD. For the highest weight growth heterosis values obtained by crosses of SB x MJ. On the character of hatching, the highest positive heterosis values obtained by crosses of SB x MJ. The degree of survival of the highest heterosis values obtained by crosses of KN x MJ. On the character of the highest positive heterosis values of biomass obtained by crosses of SB x MJ. As for the character length SGR highest positive heterosis values obtained by crossing two directions of RD and SB. And for the character weight Specific Growth Rate, the highest positive heterosis values obtained by crossing two ways KN and MJ.

Abstract

Objective of the study is to elucidate phenotype characters of nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) of the third generation (G3)resulted from the selection breeding program in the Research Institute for Freshwater Aquaculture Bogor. Phenotypes of seventeen nile tilapia families, were observed using truss morphometric methods. The results showed that the composition average of standard lenght has low coefficient variation mean (10.42%) as well as coefficient variation of the truss measured characters (4.3- 13.3%). The highest index similarity of boddy shape within family was found in family 5 (79.3%), in contrast the lowest was in family 12 (32.3%). For index similarity between families, the highest score was in between family 12 and 17 (22.6).There were 8 characters enabled to differentiate the 17 families observed. They were Al, A3, A5, B2, C3, C5, C5, and D4. Cluster analyses recognized into 4 groups based on the phenotypic distance

Abstract

The objectives of the study was to evaluate hybrid performance of sixteen reciprocal cross resulted from three strains (Red NIFI,Nirwana, BEST) and one population (Lido Lake population) of nile tilapi. The study was conducted in experimental floating netcages in Lido Lake. Fish of 25 days old ranged 0,4 ± 0.07 g were used in the experiment. Fish were reared in floating net cages sized 2x1x1 m for each cross with the density of 50 fish/cage for eight weeks (56 days). Feed were given 10% of body weight with frequency three times a day. The results showed that the highest average larvae production was 1216 from Nirwana female crossed with four different male. Growth rate of hybrids were higher than the parents (P < 0.05) and the highest was .ed NIFI x c? BEST (6,440±0,0712% ).The highest survival rate was $ Red Lido x S BEST hybrid (77.0 ±2,78%")). For heterosis, Specific Growth Rate (SGR) was 5.8188% on hybrid between Nirwana and Red Lido. While for survival rate was 15.5888% on Nirwana x BEST hybrid. Crossing between fenotipe of light color background (red) and dark color background (black) showed that red color was dominant to the black one. Pleiotric effect of color gen was detected on the SGR and survival rate.
