<![CDATA[Abstrak: Kemampuan menulis dianggap sebagai kemampuan penting yang perlu ditingkatkan. Hal tersebut dapat dicapai melalui pelaksanaan round table technique. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini utamanya dilaksanakan untuk menunjukkan apakah round table technique dapat digunakan dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis mahasiswa. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Negeri 5 Denpasar tahun Akademik 2012/2013. Berdasarkan hasil prates, yang dilaksanakan pada pra siklus, menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan siswa dalam menulis paragraf dikategorikan kurang yaitu 61.97. Selanjutnya penelitian tindakan kelas dilakukan dengan pelaksanaan round table technique dalam rencana dua siklus. Berdasarkan teknik yang dilaksanakan, terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan pada kemampuan menulis paragraf deskriptif siswa, dimana hal tersebut meningkat dari kurang menjadi baik, yaitu 68.09 pada siklus I dan 76,29 pada siklus II.Terlebih lagi, penelitian ini dapat memberikan peningkatan kemampuan menulis deskriptif paragraf siswa melalui pelaksanaan teknik tersebut. Kesimpulannya, penelitian tindakan kelas ini menunjukkan bahwa round table technique dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Negeri 5 Denpasar. Terlebih lagi teknik yang dilaksanakan juga direspon positif oleh subjek penelitian yaitu siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Negeri 5 Denpasar tahun akademik 2012/2013. <![CDATA[This classroom action research was conducted due to the facts that the learning activity of short story writing was not an easy thing for the students of Indonesian study program FKIP Unmas Denpasar. An alternative taken was by giving news text to be read by the students prior to writing short stories. The objective of this study were intended to(1) to know the extent of the students’short story writing competence can be improve through reading news, (2) to know the effect of reading news towards the students’ behaviour in short story learning process. This classroom action research was conducted in two cycle using interpretative- descriptive method. The qualitative and quantitative data were then intepretated descriptively. The data collection was carried out by means of administering tes, observation, interview, and questionnaire. The result of pra-tes which was carried out before the learning action was 68.52. The score of short story writing increased after the learning process was conducted. in the first cycle was 82.94 and in cycle II was 86.76. The short story learning processes which were started by reading news gave significant effect on the behavior changes of the students in writing short story. Consequently, the learning process can produce good and publishable short stories. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kenyataan bahwa pembelajaran menulis cerita pendek bukanlah hal yang mudah bagi mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia FKIP Unmas Denpasar. Alternatif yang diambil yaitu dengan memberikan teks berita yang akan dibaca oleh mahasiswa sebelum menulis cerpen. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk (1) mengetahui berapa besar membaca berita dapat meningkatkan kompetensi menulis cerpen pada mahasiswa;(2) mengetahui pengaruh membaca berita terhadap perubahan tingkah laku mahasiswa dalam proses pembelajaran menulis cerpen. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif-intepretatif. data-data kuantitatif dan kualitatif dideskripsikan selanjutnya diintepretasikan secara descriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui tes, observasi, wawancara, dan angket. Hasil pra-tes yang dilakukan sebelum tindakan adalah 68,52. Nilai menulis cerpen mengalami peningkatan setelah dilakukan pembelajaran. Pada siklus I adalah 82,94, dan pada siklus II adalah 86,76. Pembelajaran menulis cerpen yang didahului dengan membaca berita memberikan pengaruh yang sangat besar terhadap perubahan tingkah laku mahasiswa dalam menulis cerpen. Pembelajaran yang dilakukan menghasilkan cerpen yang baik dan layak untuk diterbitkan.]]>

<![CDATA[This present study was a classroom action research which was conducted to overcome the students’ problem in mastering speaking skill by implementing Three- Step Interview. The subject of this study was the first semester students of Bali Widya Kusuma Hotel School. There were two cycles in which every cycle consisted of two sessions. The research was started by administering the initial reflection. In accordance to the main objective of this study, the initial reflection was intended to establish the real pre existing speaking skill mastery of the subjects under study in English. Based on the result of the pre-test which was carried out in the pre-cycle, showed that the subjects’ skill in speaking was categorized as insufficient, which was 54.48. From the technique implemented, there was significant improvement from the subjects’ skill in speaking, in which it improved from insufficient to good, which was 68.09 in cycle I and 76,29 in cycle II. This research furthermore showed there was changing learning behavior as the result of the positive responses concerning the technique applied in improving the subjects’ speaking skills. To sum up, the present clasroom action study proved that the implementation of three-step interview could improve speaking skill in the first semester students of Bali Widya Kusuma Hotel School.]]>

<![CDATA[The present classroom action study dealt with Improving the Students English Vocabulary Through Word Search Game of the Seventh Grade Students of SMPN 2 Abiansemal in Academic Year 2009/2010. The present classroom action study was basically triggered by the fact that the subjects under study still faced problem in vocabulary mastery. The subjects’ vocabulary problem should be instantaneously solved. Words Search Game were expected to be an effective way in improving and developing the vocabulary mastery of the Sevent Grade Students of SMPN 2 Abiansemal in Academic Year 2009/2010. The present classroom action study made use of pre-test and post-test research design with descriptive and quantitative analysis. It consists of two cycles and in each cycle there are four successive sessions. The present classroom action study was started with administering initial refelction (IR) to the subjects under study which was intended to establish the real preexisting vocabulary mastery of the subjects under study. The comparation of mean score of each session within each cycle shows a significant increase. This grand mean figure convincingly increased much higher than the mean figure of the initial reflection or pretest scores. This grand mean figure convincing reveals that there were significant Improvement of the Students’ English Vocabulary of the Seventh Grade Students of SMPN 2 Abiansemal. The questionnaires which were actually intended to measure the changing learning behavior of the subjects under study in learning vocabulary taught through Words Search Game were administered by the end of the cycle I. The results of the comparative percentage figures obtained for the present class study proved that the subjects' learning behavior changed positively, that was, their attitude and motivation heightened significantly.]]>

<![CDATA[This research was conducted at SMK in Bali which aims to develop a model of communicative English test for SMK Tourism in Bali by involving students of English Education Study Program as the final project of language tesing. This research is conducted for two years using Research and Development method so that the developed product can be believed to be correct and accurate. The research was conducted because the crucial important problem faced by SMK Tourism teachers in assessing the ability of communicative English students so that teachers and students know their true ability in English communication in order to improve the quality of learning so that students will be ready to work in various tourism industries. In the first year, research was focused on establishing a communicative English test model based on analyzing an English test that already exists at SMK Tourism in Bali and then designing a model of Communicative English test for vocational students in Bali.]]>

<![CDATA[Quantum Learning is a trend of meaningful learning that allows the creation of a fun learning atmosphere. Motivation and students' engagement become a prime attraction for successful teaching and learning practices. Happiness in learning provides a positive impact on students’ peacefulness and builds up students’ creativity. The present study was conducted to attempt at improving linguistic competence through implementing quantum learning to EFL students triggered by the fact that the students have poor ability in linguistic competence. The results of the analysis of the questionnaire clearly showed that the students’ attitudes and motivation in learning linguistic competence through quantum learning were improved significantly. This study implies that quantum learning is an effective teaching model to improve the students’ linguistic competence, Therefore, the use of quantum learning should be carefully considered as an effort to optimally maximize students' engagement in language learning.]]>

<![CDATA[Assessing is a process of giving score and evaluation of students’ learning achievement to provide the opportunity to plan further learning improvement to attain the learning standard determined by the curriculum. This study dealt with analyzing students’ writing ability to enhance their micro and macro writing. An ex-post facto research design was employed to establish reliable findings. The research instrument that was used to collect the data was in the form of a productive test. Students were assigned to construct a descriptive paragraph consisting of at least seven sentences. The result of this study showed that: there were 5% of students who achieved an excellent score in writing a descriptive paragraph, 37.5% of students attained good achievement, 30% of students attained sufficient achievement, 17.5% students obtained insufficient achievement, 10% students were in poor achievement. This finding suggests that there still many students found difficulty in writing unified and coherent paragraphs.]]>

<![CDATA[Folklore is traditional oral stories that are passed down from one person to another for generations in society. Folklore contains local wisdom, noble characters, cultural heritage, and rich socio-linguistic features that should be preserved for society. Folklore as one of the teaching materials may improve students’ cultural and linguistic awareness as well as linguistic competence. The present study was conducted to attempt at improving speaking and socio-linguistic competence through implementing Balinese folklore in the English language classroom. This study was triggered by the fact that the students have low ability in speaking and socio-linguistic competence. The results of the analysis of the questionnaire clearly showed that the students’ attitudes and motivation in learning speaking through Balinese folklore were improved significantly. This study implies that Balinese folklore is an effective teaching model to improve the students’ speaking skills and socio-linguistic competence, Therefore, the use of Balinese folklore should be carefully considered as an effort to optimally maximize students' engagement in language learning.]]>
