Abstract

Indonesia has abundant underwater natural resources, including coral reefs. Among coral reef ecosystems, reef fish make an important contribution to supporting the sustainability of underwater life. The more diverse reef fish in an ecosystem, it shows the healthier the condition of the coral reef ecosystem. The objective of the study was to investigate the diversity of the reef fish community including abundance, diversity, evenness, and dominance index in Ulee Kareung waters, Simpang Mamplam Sub-district, Bireuen District, Indonesia. We used a visual census technique (VCT)-belt transect by using a 50-meter transect and 3 times repetition at three observation stations. Each station had 2 depth categories such as shallow waters (3-5 m) and deep water (7-10 m). Results of the study found a total of 2094 individuals that consisted of 19 families and 59 species. The abundance value of reef fish ranged from 321 ind/ha - 610 ind/ha. The diversity index (H') ranged from 2.80 to 3.16. The evenness index (E) ranged from 0.79 to 0.88 and the dominance index (C) ranged from 0.06 to 0.10. Hence, it can be concluded that ulee kareung waters have a medium level of fish diversity.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui distribusi kandungan magnetite dari sedimen pada sistemfluvial di Gampong Leungah, Kabupaten Aceh Besar. Pengambilan data dilakukan pada bulan Februari 2017.Sebanyak 10 stasiun ditentukan untuk pengambilan sampelsedimen berdasarkanmetode coring menggunakan pipa paralon yang dimodifikasi dengan diameter 2,5 inchi. Penelitian inimembagi wilayah penelitian menjadi dua kawasan, yaitu daerah aliran sungai dan muara.Lapisansedimen dengan ketebalan 15 cm diproses ayak basah untuk memisahkan sampel berdasarkan ukuranbutir pada tiap fraksinya.Setelah kering sedimen diseparasi menggunakan magnet kuat neodymiumn35 untuk memisahkan bijih besi dari sedimen.Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasimagnetite lebih tinggi pada daerah aliran sungai, dengan ukuran butiran yang lebih kasar.Kondisitersebut menjelaskan bahwa sumber magnetite berasal dari daerah hulu Sungai Leungah danterakumulasi hingga daerah muara dan pantai.

Abstract

The northern waters of Banda Aceh are connected with the Indian Ocean, the Andaman Sea, and the Malacca Strait, thus making the study of water quality parameters in this region is important for enviromental management. In this study, water quality parameters are measured spatially and then continued with assessing the pollution index. The results can be helpful for development planning and coastal pollution mitigation in Banda Aceh. The data was collected from 21 seawater samples from 11 stations representing the water of Banda Aceh on 10-11 September 2019. VanDorn bottles were used to store the seawater samples for laboratory analysis. Several parameters such as temperature, salinity, and pH were measured in situ, while other parameters were tested in the laboratory. Most heavy metal parameters showed values below the minimal and maximal value limit detection of the instrument, indicating a small potential for heavy metal contamination. However, the pollution index (PI) indicates the potential for water pollution dominated by nitrate and phosphate with a value that exceeds the water quality standard. The indications are shown from the high aquaculture and anthropogenic activities around the coast of Banda Aceh.

Abstract

Anoi Itam Beach (AIB), located in the eastern part of  Weh Island, has the sediment characteristic of dark-sand color. Climatologically, the beach is influenced by two seasons, i.e., south-west (SW) monsoon and northeast (NE) monsoon. Sediment data are collected in the upper and lower littoral zones that are divided into six stations alongshore. Data were collected on October 2016 and April 2017, representing post (SW) monsoon and post-NE monsoon events. To examine the effect of seasonal, sediments statistics, e.g., mean, sorting, skewness, and kurtosis, have been calculated. AIB was characterized as well sorted to poorly sorted sediment. Sediments were identified as mesokurtic in October, varied to leptokurtic and platikurtic in upper littoral and lower littoral, respectively, in April. Grain size in both upper and lower littoral had increased from October to April. The impact on sediment sortation was minor due to the seasonal difference. Sediments in the upper littoral vary slightly skewed than lower littoral, which response to a more positively skewed during seasonal change from SW-monsoon to NE monsoon. The results suggested that lower littoral provide high variability of sediment characteristics depend on the season.

This study took seawater samples from 13 stations in the northern waters of Banda Aceh on September 10-11 2019. Surface water samples were taken using Van Dorn bottle, which were then tested on 22 types of parameters to evaluate the water quality in the area. In general, the results of tests on various water parameters indicate that the sea waters in Banda Aceh are in good condition.
