Abstract

AbstractThe existence of Cassava under the Teak stand, in Ngawi Forest District, have change the undergrowth species composition and their ecological structure. Based on the research results of the different age class of teak plantation forest (II – V) could be concluded that the species composition of undergrowth tend to decrease either species number or individual number of each species. Only 4 species from 21 species of undergrowth that were found in all of the research compartments those are Hoplismenus burmani, Clitoria ternatea, Eupatorium odoratum and Synedrela nudiflora; and their distribution were horizontally aggregated. For vertical structure of the undergrowth community were not different for each compartment with Cassava. The nutrients rate information of the soil under teak stand with cassava showed low enough.Key words: Undergrowth, cassava, ecological structure, teak standAbstrakKeberadaan tanaman Ketela pohon di bawah tegakan hutan tanaman Jati di KPH Ngawi telah mengakibatkan terjadinya perubahan komposisi jenis tumbuhan bawah dan struktur ekologisnya. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian pada petak hutan tanaman Jati dengan kelas umur yang berbeda (KU II-V) dapat disimpulkan bahwa komposisi jenis tumbuhan bawah cenderung menurun baik dalam jumlah jenis maupun jumlah individu setiap jenis. Hanya ada 4 jenis dari 21 jenis tumbuhan bawah yang dijumpai dari seluruh petak hutan tanaman Jati yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu Hoplismenus burmani, Clitoria ternatea, Eupatorium odoratum dan Synedrela nudiflora; dan sebaran horizontalnya mengelompok. Untuk struktur vertikal komunitas tumbuhan bawah pada petak hutan tanaman Jati bertumbuhan Ketela pohon ternyata tidak jauh berbeda antara satu petak dengan petak yang lainnya dari kelas umur yang berbeda. Kandungan hara dalam tanah dibawah tegakan hutan tanaman Jati bertumbuhan Ketela pohon berada pada tingkat yang rendah.Kata kunci: Tumbuhan bawah, ketela pohon, struktur ekologis, tegakan Jati

Abstract

Kerusakan hutan tropika basah dapat menimbulkan dampak lingkungan berupa penurunan keanekaragaman hayati dan terganggunya fungsi serta stabilitas ekosistem. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan bukti apakah perubahan hutan tropika basah menjadi bentuk penggunaan lahan lain berakibat pada penurunan keragaman dan kelimpahan semut, dan untuk menunjukkan apakah semut dapat dijadikan sebagai bio-indikator perubahan sistem penggunaan lahan (SPL). Penelitian ini dilakukan di Jambi Sumatra pada akhir musim penghujan (Mei−Juni) 2004 pada berbagai taraf intensifikasi SPL. Inventarisasi dan koleksi semut dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode “Winkler” pada enam SPL, yaitu: hutan primer, hutan sekunder, perkebunan karet, perkebunan kelapa sawit, ladang ketela pohon, dan padang alang-alang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ditemukan 50 genus semut pada 6 SPL tersebut. SPL tidak berpengaruh secara nyata terhadap keragaman dan kelimpahan seluruh semut tetapi berpengaruh secara nyata terhadap kelompok semut pesaba dan semut predator. Keragaman jenis dan kelimpahan yang tinggi dari semut predator ditemukan pada SPL hutan primer dan hutan sekunder. Keragaman jenis dan kelimpahan menjadi rendah apabila SPL hutan diubah menjadi SPL ladang ketela pohon. Kelimpahan semut pesaba tertinggi diketemukan pada SPL perkebunan kelapa sawit. Data yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa semut dapat digunakan sebagai bio-indikator dalam perubahan SPL di kawasan Jambi, Sumatra.

Abstract

Arrowroot (Maranta arundinacea L.) is an important starchy plant which has potential utilization for food,industry and medicine. The study was undertaken to assess the variability in morpho-physiological characters, tuber yield and starch content of 23 arrowroot populations in Garut District, West Java. The result showed some significant differences in morpho-physiological characteristics, tuber yield and starch content. Growth characteristics revealed that Cilawu population recorded the highest values for some characters: high, leaf number, above growth biomass and tuber biomass. Cikajang population showed the highest tuber yield (210.6 g per plant) followed by Cilawu population (134 g per plant). Cikajang and Cilawu populations also provided the highest tuber biomass, 46.6 g and 60.0 g respectively. Cilawu population was a second population producing the highest starch content (26.1 %) after Cibatu population (27 %). The higher heritability coupled with genetic advance revealed for fresh tuber yield indicated that selection on basis of the character may be helpful to improve arrowroot yield. Most of the growth characteristics had not significant correlation indicating that the characteristics are not good indicator for selection. Cilawu, Cikajang and Cibatu populations have good potential to produce the high quality and quantity of tuber for arrowroot cultivation in Garut District.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the structure and communities of termite caused by changes in land use. The research was conducted from December 2011 to January 2013, Implemented in Lore Lindu National Park area around the village of grace Palolo Sub district, Sigi Regency. The observation of termites was conducted using transect method. Parameters observed were environmental parameters, soil physical and chemical characteristics. The total diversity of termite species found was 15. Diversity of trees, nekromas, and the amount of litter that is higher in secondary forest than in agroforestry cause soil water content and moisture become higher in secondary forests and there fore contributes toan increase in soil organic matter content. Key Words : Agroforestry, diversity of  termite, forest use change, secondary forest.
