Abstract

Sasak song as one form of artistic discourse is used as an instrument of male domination of women in gender relations through various forms of imaging that do not benefit women. The image is understood through the process and mechanism of work of critical discourse analysis. This study aims to reveal the image of women in the Sasak song by discovering the tendency of social construction in gender relations between men and women based on the principles of Critical Discourse Analysis. Through the position of the Sasak song text, the importance of the text, and the consequences of the text in the social reality of gender relations between men and women, found six images of women in the Sasak song text, namely women as male subordination; women as inferior, resigned women, cheap women, dependent women, and women without choice. As a text, discursive reasoning, and social reality, the results of the study show the tendency to dominate women who give birth to forms of discrimination. The six images of women in Sasak song texts are contained in works of art for the purpose of disguising the tendencies behind artistic elements, so that they are accepted as truth and reasonableness in history inherited between generations.

Abstract

By utilizing discursive theory, social actors, and sociosemantics, this study aims to find the increase in women's working hours, reasons, and causality between working hours, types of work, and their respective recognition in social relations. The study used a qualitative descriptive method, with research data focusing on the context before and during COVID-19. Data were collected through online surveys and interviews. Data analysis was carried out based on sociosemantic analysis in Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), starting with calculating working time, reasons, and causality according to the CDA. The research findings show that women's working hours when COVID-19 has increased accumulatively. The accumulative increase relates to all types of work when COVID-19 requires women's access. Respondents admitted that everything was done as a custom for reasons of fate, obligations and traditions. It can be concluded that, there is a causality between working hours, type of work and respondents' reasons that prevalence occurs due to cognitive involvement, religion, and tradition. CDA views the context of this imbalance in this relationship as a social problem. Problem solving according to the CDA can be done through an educational process, with the assumption of solving problems for the future.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the writing skills of English descriptive texts for VII B graders at SMPN 1 Selong through the implementation of a project-based learning model. The identified problems were the low writing ability of descriptive texts among students and the lack of appropriate learning method. The research was conducted in two cycles involving 32 students of class VII B. In the first cycle, the project-based learning method was applied by providing guidance on accurate English language usage in the context of writing descriptive texts. The observation results demonstrated an increase in student activity, with the average student score improving from 57 in the pre-cycle to 68.75 in the first cycle. However, some students still did not achieve learning completeness. In the second cycle, improvement measures were taken by involving students in group discussions to improve their project ideas and content. Overall, this research highlights the effectiveness of the project-based learning method in improving students' writing ability in English descriptive texts. Student activities and learning outcomes showed significant improvements after the implementation of this learning model.
