Abstract

Writing is one of the subjects taught at school. Through poetry writing, students’ imaginative writing skills can be improved. The purpose of this research is to describe the improvement in poetry writing skills and students’ activity using Prezi. This research employed a classroom action research method conducted in three cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages, namely: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this research were fifth-grade students of a primary school in Inderalaya consisting of 13 male students and 16 female students. The instrument of the data collection was a poetry writing test. The results of the three cycles in this research were 44.44%, 78.57%, and 89.28% respectively. It showed an increase in poetry writing skills of fifth-grade primary school students after the use of Prezi media in learning.  Hence, it can be concluded that Prezi was an appropriate media to teach poetry writing. It is recommended that Prezi could be used as an alternative media to teach writing in the primary school.

Abstract

Good education reflects the quality of the nation. A teacher is a spearheaded on the educational field to provide generation that has a good quality. In order to established a generation that has good quality, a quality learning method is needed. Therefore, PGSD students as prospective national educators have to understand the basics of learning in elementary schools. The study that is conducted at UST in the department of PGSD  found that the understanding of the basic concepts of social study is low. The aim of the study is to improve the understanding concept of social study to students in UST in the department of PGSD. This study uses Cooperative model type GI in lecture activities. The study is used classroom action research by engaging 2 cycles, each cycle has a duration about 2×50 mins and conducted on 2 meetings. Subjects of the study were the writer as a researcher, lecturer, and students of  UST in the department of PGSD. Data sources were taken from lecturer and students. Data were collected used test, observation, and interview technique. The data validity test is used triangulation. The data analysis technique that is used an interactive analysis that consisting of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The result of the study shows that the use of GI able to improve the understanding of the basic concept of social study on the student in UST in department of PGSD. Lecturers may use the GI in the learning process to make students more active in study and to improve the understanding of students' conceptions.

This research was aimed to evaluate the implementation of authentic assessment of elementary school in Province of Yogyakarta and also to know the obstacles of its implementation. This was an evaluative research by a Stake's evaluation model approach. The results of observation in compare to the standard of assessment should be criteria to determine the succeed. This research subjects were elementary teachers in Province of Yogyakarta. Observation, interview, and documentation were used to gather data. The research showed that: (1) Planning (antecedents) stage or understanding towards authentic assessment planning has not been fulfilled the standard to be categorized as Good with percentage of 68.75%; (2) Process (transaction) or implementation stage that obtained 63.41% in percentage was classified in Good category; (3) Outcome stage or authentic assessment report showed 68.48% in percentage and should be categorized Good. The implementation of authentic assessment in Province of Yogyakarta elementary schools have not 100% met the standard. Therefore, results from this research finding were expected to be tools to improve performance from all stakeholders.

Abstract

This quantitative study was conducted to identify the misconception between social studies and social sciences among pre-service elementary teachers. Data were collected from the subjects (n=122) drawn by cluster sampling in Yogyakarta. Aiken's validity and Cronbach Alpha were then employed to examine the instrument's quality. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive techniques to examine the level of misconception. The popular misconceptions between social studies and social sciences were identified by the criteria developed by Abraham, Grzybowski, Renner, Marek (1992). The results of the study show that there was a greater understanding of social studies and social sciences for the specific fields of geography, anthropology, and politics. Therefore, the main emphasis should be placed on these fields. The fields that were misconceived included economics, geography, and history. The implications of this research will eventually become the basis and guideline for social studies lecturers to give emphases on the fields of study belonging to social studies, distinguishing them from those of social sciences. In addition, each social science discipline adopted into social studies must receive special attention, given the greater level of misconception among the pre-service teachers in these fields.

Abstract

This study applies the ?Make A Match model? to mathematics subjects, in increasing the ability to understand concepts and student learning outcomes in mathematics. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) and uses a Kemmis and Taggart model design with four stages, namely 1) Planning, 2) Action, 3) Observation, and 4) Reflection with a qualitative approach. This study uses 3 cycles, namely pre-cycle, cycle I and cycle II. Each cycle consists of four stages, namely: planning, action, observation, and reflection. This research was conducted at Yogyakarta PGRI University. The research subjects are second-semester students majoring in Elementary education (Pendidikan Guru Sekolah Dasar, hereafter called ?PGSD?). The instrument used was a test that contained questions in the form of essays.  Analysis of the data used is qualitative descriptive analysis. The results were obtained based on indicators of concept understanding, namely in the second cycle which increased including 1) students who were able to restate the concept from 62.50% in the pre-cycle to 76.38% in the second cycle, 2) students who were able to give examples 72.76% in the pre-cycle to 76.38% in the second cycle, 3) students who are able to present concepts in various representations from 70.86% in the pre-cycle to 85.34% in the second cycle, and 4) students who are able to associate internal or external Make A Match model from 70.69% pre-cycle to 76.38% in cycle II. It was concluded that the ?Make A Match learning model? can improve students' understanding of concepts and learning outcomes in mathematics learning.
