Abstract

This study aims to identify the Neurotic Needs, Neurotic Trends, and Dissociative Identity Disorder of character Johan in Lexie Xu's Terror. This study used a descriptive-analytical method through a literary psychology approach, using the Social Psychoanalysis theory by Karen Horney. The findings are that Johan character has five out of ten forms of Neurotic Needs: influential partner, power, taking advantage of others, social respect or prestige, and personal admiration. Character Johan has a Neurotic Trends: against others, and seven out of ten symptoms Dissociative Identity Disorder: occasionally not aware of his actions, has deeply traumatization, often paranoid, has fluctuating abilities, depressed and unhappy, often experiences rapid emotional changes, and frequently experiences hallucinations.
