Abstract

Abstract- This research reports antiradical and antibacterial activities of three of spinach (amaranthus sp) leaves acetone extract were red spinach (Amaranthus tricolor L. ) , green spinach ( Amaranthus hybridus L. ) and spines spinach ( Amaranthus spinosus L ). Fresh spinach leaves were dried and extracted by maceration with acetone for 24 hours. The extracts tested antiradical DPPH activity by spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 517 nm. The results showed that acetone extract of three spinach types have DPPH scavenging activity by red spinach leaves (IC50 = 29.76 ug/ml), green spinach leaves (IC50 = 46,55ug/ml)  and spines spinach (IC50 =73.66 ug / ml) extract. Antibacterial activity was tested against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli by agar diffusion method. The results showed that the acetone extracts of leaves of green spinach and spines spinach inhibited Staphylococcus aureus respectively, diammeter of clear zone 3.00 mm and 3.21 mm, the results no inhibition to the growth of Escherichia coli. Acetone extract of red spinach not shown clear zone against the growth of both bacteria. Identification of active compound by GCMS contained the fatty acids and tocopherols . Keywords: Spinach (Amaranthus sp), antiradical DPPH, antibacterial, GC MS
