Abstract

The objectives of this study are (1) to train participants in good and correct English communication both grammatically and in correctly choosing the right words and (2) to train fluency in English communication to understand the skills in each component which consists of listening exercises, the use of proper and correct language structures in writing, reading comprehension, and speaking proficiency. The method used is a communicative approach method that trains students to understand the skills in each training component which consists of speaking, writing, reading and listening skills. The results of this activity showed that the training participants experienced positive changes in terms of fluency, understanding, use of language structures and vocabulary.

Abstract

Principally, the objective of this research is to find out the result of achievement of student’s speaking skill through the performance of translation and interpreting studies. In view of that, this research constitutes one of teacher’s best endeavors to recognize the attainment of student’s speaking skill as the prerequisite for them to get a highly qualified competency for their carrier in the future. Hence, the objective of education for which the students pursue in the university can be accordingly achieved. The achievement of students speaking skill in the society is very important due to the fact that many kinds of world-class business opportunities need a qualification of competency-based speaking skill. The steps of improving the students speaking skill through translating and interpreting study are namely understanding linguistics, socio linguistics and psycho-linguistics and vocabulary as well.

Abstract

The aim of this analysis is to know and understand the criteria, causes, influence, characters and moral messages of Kevin in Analysis on Antisocial Personality Disorder of Kevin in “We Need to talk about Kevin Movie Directed by Lynne Ramsay”. This method uses descriptive qualitative analysis. The analytical results obtained are: (1) Criteria of antisocial personality disorder of Kevin namely among the other things deceitfulness, irritability, aggressiveness, reckless, disregard for safety of his own self or for others and lack of remorse. (2) The causes of antisocial personality disorder on Kevin is less responsive (genetic) and neglect of family on Kevin (Environment). (3) Kevin’s behaviour influencing the others is posing of a threat and (4) Moral message that people should anticipate with antisocial personality disorder is that people should not hurt the person and should communicate with him very well. As a result, Kevin has the characters of aggressiveness, easily lying and can injure others without feeling any guilt.

Abstract

Social media mostly provides facilities and applications which make the youth enjoy their time longer in using social media. In relation to which, the objectives of this study are to identify what are the positives and negatives effects of social media on the youth’s state and nation development. As for the method used herein is qualitative in nature and the method of collecting data applied herein is by adopting literary approach. Positive impact of social media are among the other things: to keep in touch with the members of family living so far from house or with the relative which have not met for a long time; to use it as teaching and learning sources; to use it as information media; to broaden fraternity networks; to use it as the facility to improve skill and competence; to use it as communication media; and to use it as promotion and business media. Meanwhile negative effect of social media are among the other things are: difficult to socialize with the people surrounding; social media can make somebody only think about him/herself; the lack of working performance; criminal in cyberspace; and pornography. Accordingly, by knowing positive and negative impact of social media the youth can be wiser to use it only for the purpose of developing the state and nation.

Abstract

The objective of this research mainly aims to find out the proofs that the translator used communicative translation in Indonesian book version. This paper was directed to answer two basic questions about the strategies that used by the translator to translate in target language and the proofs which shows that in target language the translator used communicative translation method. The writer used the theory of Newmark about communicative translation method that is used to analyze the data. It amplifies that analysis based on the theory by expert will make easier to analysis. This research used qualitative method in which the writer undertakes research through describing the data. The writer found that the translation method that used by the translator is communicative translation method. In translation by the translator pay attention the meaning of source language so that the message in target language can be received by the readers.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the main characters in Hide and Seek movie as the characters who have psychopathic problem and Dissociative Identity Disorder. In relation to which, the writer studied Hide and Seek movie as the unit of analysis. Psychopathic problems viewed from Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis concepts are used for the review of related literature theories or concepts of the research. Therefore, the method of the research is descriptive qualitative, which tries to explain about the intrinsic elements of the movie; such as characterization and the scenes of the movie, then followed by analyzing them through Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis. Through observations of the scenes and the behavior of the main characters the writer reveals David and Emily have been identified to have psychopathic characters such as manipulative, parasitical, deceitful, power hungry, less empathy, often lie, shallow affect and poor behavioral control. In addition, the causes of such character are trauma and stress viewed from Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis theory

Abstract

This study is an attempt to find out the classification and the semantic meaning of the idiomatic expression found in Gita Wirjawan’s speeches regarding economic growth viewed by Adam Makkai Theory. The source of data was taken from the script of the speech video collection of Gita Wirjawan’s about economic growth. This study falls under the qualitative research by employing the content analysis method. The researcher found 20 idiomatic expressions. There were 15 lexemic idioms and 5 sememic idioms. In the lexemic idiom, 10 phrasal verb idioms, 2 in tournure idioms, 3 in phrasal compound idioms, and 0 in pseudo idioms were found. Meanwhile, in the sememic idioms, 2 proverbial idioms, 1 familiar quotation, 1 institutionalized understatement and 1 institutionalized hyperbole were found.And after the idiomatic expressions were analyzed, it was proved that the idiomatic expression had different meaning than the literal meaning of the word itself

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to analyze the idiomatic translation found in “The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn” By Stephanie Meyer and “Awal Yang Baru” Translated By Monica Dwi Chresnayani. The result of the research is the idiomatic translations method which is found in the novel and analyzed by using the theory of translation from Newmark. Based on the data analysis, the writer found some proofs that the data which were translated used idiomatic translation method. In analyzing translation process, the writer compared with other translation methods. The purpose was that the writer showed the translation method used by the translator was idiomatic translation method. In translation, the translator paid attention to the meaning of source language so that the message in target language can be received by the readers.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to describe to discover facts about Alan Turing and the impacts of the characters on his life in order to obtain the moral value of the movie. By using qualitative method, the author describes hidden facts about Alan Turing, especially when he was given a secret mission by the British Empire during World War II to decode from Germany’s Enigma message’s machine. In this movies, his personal life and sexual deviation influence his career. In order to keep his mission going, Turing, the professor pretends to be a normal person by trying love his partner, Ms Clark. He doesn’t get any respects and losses his dignity due to his own deviant behaviors. He is sentenced and has to receive hormone therapy to make him normal and continue his mission. His struggles continue although the government ignores his invention and dedication to his country.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze about three important aspects, as the component of the story which are related to each other and also as the element of literature. The writer defines about Daniel Plainview’s character traits that his negative character traits are related to the factor of several conflicts in the story. The story depicts of his ambition, persistence, greed and hatred. Ambition and persistence influenced to his success achievement as the oilman, while his greed and hatred are related to the factor of several conflicts in the story. The second aspect is to identify some people who involved in conflicts with Daniel Plainview in the story and the third aspect is to define moral values reflection from the story as a wisdom and life learning for the writer or for the readers. The writer applies content analysis which is the part of qualitative research. This research found that (1) the negative character traits are related to several conflicts and (2) moral values reflection defined as the generosity that as the opposite of greed which is depicted obviously from the main character.
