Abstract

In broad perspective, meat contains many essential nutrients such as protein, fat, minerals, carbohydrates (minor amount) and water. The existence of these nutrients render meat not only as a nutritious food, but also potential as a media for bacterial growth, so that it needs to be further processed. One of the methods to process meat is by soaking the meat in a marinade solution (marination). There are three treatments that maybe performed on meat in the marination system. The first method is using phosphate salt solution to enhance the water holding capacity. The second method is utilizing the acidic salt solution or organic acids to soften the meat and control the bacteria growth. The third method is using spicy solution that can be combined with sugar, salt (NaCl) and organic acids to improve the physical performance and taste of meat as well as to control the growth of bacteria. It is concluded that marination of meat could increase physical, chemical, microbiological properties and sensory. Key words: Marination, meat, safety

Abstract

A study on eating behavior of Ongole Crossbred (OC) and Limousin Crossbred (LC) steers (aged 9 months) fed fermented rice straw and concentrate has been carried out. Rice straw and concentrate were given in 60:40 ratio. Rice straw was fermented by commercial starter (BioP 2000 Z), while concentrate was composed of commercial concentrate and soybean pulp (by-product of soy-sauce industry). The diet was set to meet the dry matter (DM) requirement at 3.0% of liveweight. Eating behaviour was measured from 3 days continuously observation. Chewing number was accounted by halter equipped with tape-switch in jaw side and was recorded every 1/10 second in connected PC. The results showed that DMI of both OC (3.21 kg) and LC (4.18 kg) was similar, being 2.8% LW. However, chewing number of OC (133808 chews/d) was higher than that of LC (106353 chews/d). Chewing for eating and for rumination in OC (86995 and 46813 chews) was higher than of LC (67628 and 38725 chews). Chewing efficiency for eating in OC (0.041 g DMI/chew) was lower than that of LC (0.066 g DMI/chew). Similar tendency was observed in chewing efficiency for rumination that OC (0.080 g DMI/chew) was lower than that of LC (0.109 g DMI/chew). The conclusion is LC has a better chewing efficiency than of OC and it was pointed to different jaw size between OC and LC.   Key words: Chewing, Ongole, Limousin

Abstract

In some areas in Indonesia, farmers usually graze their goats during the day and house them at night.  The goats eat grass without additional concentrate.  However, how much nutrient intakes of grazing goats in Indonesia are seldom calculated. Therefore, this research was set up to investigate the productivity and to estimate the dry matter, protein, and TDN intake of grazed Kacang buck using lignin internal indicator.  About 12 heads of Kacang buck, aged 1-1.5 year (the incisors have erupted 1), having the initial body weight of 18.42+1.78 kg (CV= 9.67%) and reared by farmers in Grobogan, Central Java, Indonesia were used in this study.  Intake and nutrient digestibility of the buck were calculated using lignin as internal marker.  After being reared 86 days, the average daily gains (ADG) of the buck were 3.20+21.14 gram ( -26.16 gram to 53.60 gram). Low ADG of the buck was caused by low DMI, protein and TDN intake.  The Kacang bucks were usually grazed in the soccer fields, back yards, and roadsides, therefore their intake were lower than their maintenance needed.  The averages of DMI, protein and TDN intake were about 1.17+0.17 % their body weight, 30.16+4.18 g and 91.45+11.64 g, respectively. It can be concluded that the productivity of grazing Kacang bucks is relatively very low.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan limbah ampas tahu pada feses sapi terhadap produksi metan, kecernaan bahan organik dan nilai pH. Perlakuan yang diterapkan yaitu T0 dengan bahan isian 100 % feses sapi peranakanfries holstein (PFH) ditambah air (1:1) dan T1 dengan bahan isian 95 % feses sapi PFH dan 5 % limbah ampas tahu kemudian diencerkan dalam air (1:1). Ulangan yang dilakukan adalah dengan pengambilan data sebanyak 3 kali Hydraulic retention time (HRT), dimana satu kali HRT sama dengan 25 hari. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah tidak ada pengaruhyang nyata (P>0,05) dari perlakuan yang diterapkan terhadap produksi metan, kecernaan bahan organik dan nilai pH. Tidak berpengaruhnya perlakuan penambahan ampas tahu terhadap produksi metan dikarenakan penambahan C/N hanya sebesar 1,72 dari selisihratio T0 dengan T1. Nilai pH pada masing-masing digester berada pada kisaran nilai pH yang baik untuk pertumbuhan mikroorganisme anaerobik dalam menghasilkan biogas. Penambahan ampas tahu pada substrat biogas pada taraf 5% pada feses sapi perah diperoleh hasil produksi gas metan, kecernaan bahan organik, dan pH slurry yang tidakberbeda nyata dari kedua digester.Kata kunci : Limbah Ampas Tahu, Biogas, Feses Sapi, Gas Metan, Kecernaan Bahan Organik, pH

Abstract

ABSTRAK      Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian pakan untuk produksi berbeda terhadap produksi methan dari feses sapi Madura. Ternak yang digunakan adalah 12 ekor sapi Madura jantan dengan bobot badan awal (BB) 143,41 kg (CV = 7,11%). Penelitian ini dilakukan berdasarkan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) untuk 3 perlakuan (T1 = pakan diberikan untuk memenuhi asupan bahan kering (BK) 1,8% BB, T2 = pakan diberikan pada 2,7% BB, T3 = pakan diberikan pada 3,6% BB) dan 4 ulangan. Parameter yang diamati adalah produksi feses, kualitas feses, produksi gas, dan laju produksi gas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa produksi feses berbeda sangat nyata (p<0,01). Kualitas feses dan produksi gas menunjukkan tidak berbeda nyata (p>0,05). Simpulan hasil penelitian ini adalah pemberian pakan dengan produksi berbeda memberikan pengaruh terhadap produksi feses yang dihasilkan, namun tidak berpengaruh pada produksi gas.Kata kunci : Feses; pakan; metan; laju produksi. ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to determine the effect of different feeding level on the methane production of Madura cattle dung. This study used 12 male Madura cattle with initial body weight (BW) of 143,41 kg (CV = 7,11%). The experimentel design wascompletely randomized design (CRD) 3 treatments (T1= feed level at 1,8% BW; T2 = feed level at 2,7% BW; T3 = feed level at 3,6% BW) and 4 replications. Parameters measured were feces production, feces quality, gas production, and production rate. The results showed that feces production was significantly different (p<0,01). Feces quality and gas production showed no significantly different (p>0,05). Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruhjumlah pakan yang berbeda terhadap fisiologi kambing Kacang. Materi yang digunakan adalah kambing kacang jantan dengan umur muda dan dewasa. Bahan pakan yang diberikan berupa complete feed (bentuk pelet) dengan kandungan protein kasar(PK) sebesar 18,8% dantotal digestible nutrients (TDN) sebesar 76,29% yang tersusun dari tangkai gandum, molases, bekatul dan bungkil kedelai. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap pola tersarang (nested design) dengan 2 kelompok umur dan 2 level pemberian pakan yang tersarang pada setiap kelompok umur. Parameter yang diamati pertambahan bobot badan harian(PBBH), kosumsi bahan kering(BK), suhu rektal, denyut nadi, frekuensi nafas. Pakan diberikan 2x sehari pada pukul 08.00 dan 17.00. Pengambilan data fisiologis dilakukan pada pukul 05.00, 10.00, 14.00 dan 19.00 seminggu 2x. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa bobot badan tidak berpengaruh nyata (P>0,05) pada kondisi fisiologis kambing Kacang,tetapi berpengaruh sangat nyata (P<0,01) terhadap konsumsi BK dan PBBH.  Levelpakan menunjukkan pengaruh yang sangat nyata (P<0,01) pada denyut nadi dan frekuensi nafas, namun tidak berpengaruh nyata (P>0,05) terhadap PBBH dan suhu rektal kambing Kacang. Simpulan hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan perbedaan konsumsi BK menyebabkan peningkatan denyut nadi dan frekuensi napas untuk menjaga agar suhu tubuh tetap normal.Kata Kunci : Denyut nadi; Frekuensi nafas; Kambing Kacang;  Suhu rektal ABSTRACT The aim of this research was to knowthe effect of different feeding level on physiologicalcondition of Kacang goat. Animal used were16 heads of Kacang goat divided into 2 groups young and old age (8 heads) each. The goats were fed a complete feed (pellets) composed of wheat stalk, molasses, rice bran and soybean meal formulated to contain 18.8% crude protein (CP) and 76.29% total digestible nutrients (TDN). A nested design of completely randomized design was appllied in this study for two age groups and two levels of feeding that nested in each age group. Parameters observed were daily gain, feed intake, rectal temperature, pulse, and breathing frequency. Feed was given twice daily at 08:00 and 17:00, and on the following day therest of feed was weighed to calculate feed intake. Physiological data was done at 05:00, 10:00, 14:00 and 19:00 twice a week. The results of this study showed that body weight was not significantly (P>0.05) affect the physiological oscilation of the Kacang goat but significantly (P<0.01) affect the feed intake and daily body weight gain. Feed intake showed a significantly effect (P<0.01) on the pulse and breathing frequency, but not significantly effect (P>0.05) on the rectal temperature PBBH and Kacang goats. The conclusion of this study showed that the differentiation of Dry Matter (DM) consumption affected the increasing of pulse and breathing frequency to kept a normal rectal temperature.Key words: pulse; breathing frequency; rectal temperature;Kacang goat.

Abstract

ABSTRAK           Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh pemberian vitamin B kompleks terhadap penyusutan bobot badan akibat transportasi selama 7 jam pada kambing Kacang umur muda dan dewasa. Materi yang digunakan adalah 16 ekor kambing Kacang jantan dengan kisaran bobot 13,04 ± 2,31 kg (CV = 17,6825),dan vitamin B kompleks injeksi. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap pola tersarang (nested design) untuk 2 kelompok, 2 perlakuan dan 4 ulangan. Kelompok percobaan dalam penelitian ini adalah kelompok muda (bobot 11,14 ± 1,63) kg dan kelompok dewasa (bobot 14,943 ± 0,71 kg) yang masing-masing mendapat perlakuan berupa tanpa pemberian vitamin B kompleks (T0) dan dengan pemberian vitamin B kompleks (T1). Transportasi dilakukan dari jam 9.00-16.00 dengan jarak tempuh ±300 km. Parameter yang diamat adalah bobot awal dan bobot akhir untuk menghitung penyusutan bobot badan dan bobot feses. Hasi lpenelitian menunjukkan bahwa penyusutan bobot badan kambing pada T0 dan T1 pada umur muda maupun dewasa tidak berbeda nyata (p>0,05), begitu juga dengan keluaran bobot fesesnya. Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah vitamin B kompleks tidak mempengaruhi penyusutan bobot badan akibat transportasi pada kambing Kacang umur muda dan dewasa.Kata kunci: kambing Kacang; penyusutan; transportasi; vitamin B kompleks ABSTRACT           This study aimed to assessthe effect of vitamin B complex to the shrinkage of body weight due to 7 hours transportation at a young and mature age of Kacang goats. The materials used were16 male Kacang goats at average body weight (BW)  of13.04 ± 2.31 kg (CV = 17.6825) and vitamin B complex injection were used in this study.  The experimental design used was a completely randomized design nested design for 2 groups, 2 treatments and 4 replications. Experimental groups in this study were young group (BW of 11.14 ± 1.63 kg) and adult group (BW of 14.94 ± 0.71 kg) in which each group were treated without(T0) and with giving vitamin B complex (T1). Transportation was conducted from 9:00 to 16:00 at a distance of ± 300 km. Parameters observed include the initial BW and final BW to calculate BW shrinkage and fecal weight. The results showed that the shrinkage of BW at T0 and T1 goats at young age and mature were not significantly different (p> 0.05), as well as the weight of feces excreted. Abstract

ABSTRAK           Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan whey dalam substrat biogas dengan bahan baku feses sapi Madura terhadap produksi metan, kecernaan nitrogen dan total ammonia nitrogen (TAN). Penelitian ini menggunakan 2perlakuan yaitu dengan bahan isian feses sapi Madura dicairkan dengan air (FA) dan dengan bahan isian feses sapi Madura dicairkan dengan whey (FW), kesemuanyadengan perbandingan 1:1. Pengambilan data dilakukan selama 2 kali hydraulic retention time. Analisis data menggunakan t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan nyata (P<0,05) dari perlakuan penggunaan whey terhadap produksi metan,produksi metan FW dibandingkan dengan FA (1465 vs 613 ml/l volume digester aktif).Kecernaan nitrogen antara FA dan FW (12,64% vs 37,35%) dan TAN antara FA dan FW (907 mg/l vs 657 mg/l) menunjukkan hasil tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05). Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah whey dapat meningkatkan produksi metan.Kata kunci : Feses; whey; metan; kecernaan nitrogen; TAN ABSTRACT The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of utilization of whey as solvent of madura cattle feces as a substrat in digester biogas on  methane production, nitrogen digestibility and total ammonia nitrogen (TAN). This research was used two treatments namely digester treating Madura cattle manure and water (FA) and digester treating Madura cattle manure  and whey (FW) at ratio of 1:1. Data retrieval for 2 times thehy draulic retention time. Was statistically analysed usingt-test. The results showed that there were significant effect (P<0.05) beetwen the treatment on the methane production. The methane production of FW and FA  were 1465 and 613 ml/l digester volume. Nitrogen digesbility between FA and FW (12.64% vs.37.35%) and TAN between FA and FW (907 mg/lvs.657mg/l) were not significantly different(P>0.05). Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian bertujuan untuk pendugaan protein tubuh domba lokal jantan yang diberikan waktu pemberian pakan yang berbeda. Materi yang digunakan adalah domba lokal jantan, bobot rata – rata24,12 kg ± 2,5 kg (CV=10,51%) dan umur satu tahun.Pakan yang diberikan berupa complete feedbentuk pelet dengan kandungan protein kasar(PK) sebesar 16,6% dan total digestible nutrients (TDN) sebesar 67,36% yang terdiri dari jerami gandum, bungkil kedelai, molases, tepung gaplek, bekatul dan mineral. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL), terdiri dari 3 perlakuan yakni, T1(siang), T2(malam) dan T3 (siang dan malam) serta 4 ulangan.Parameter yang diamati pada penelitian adalah pertambahan komposisi kadar protein tubuh yang didapat menggunakan metode Urea Space. Pengambilan data dilakukan pada minggu awal dan akhir perlakuan dengan cara pengambilan darah pada menit ke-0 dan menit ke-12. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perbedaan waktu pemberian pakan pada siang dan malam hari tidak ada pengaruh nyata terhadap pertambahan protein tubuh domba yaitu dengan rerata pertambahan protein tubuh sebesar 0,55 kg, dikarenakan komposisi tubuh banyak dipengaruhi oleh perbedaan konsumsi pakan, umur dan genetik.Kata kunci : Domba lokal jantan; Protein tubuh; Complete feed; Waktu pemberian pakan ABSTRACT This research was aimed to estimate body protein of local ram fed at different feeding time. The materials used was twelve one year old local rams with average body weight of 24.12 kg (CV=10.51%). The feed given was formed as complete feed (pellets) with crude protein (CP) of 16,6% and total digestible nutrients (TDN) of 67,63%, consisting of wheat straw, soybean meal, molasses, cassava flour and bran. This research was used completely randomized design with 3 treatments and 4 replications. The Treatments wereT1 (day time feeding : 06.00-18.00), T2 (night time feeding : 18.00-06.00), and T3 (day and night), respectively.  Parameters observed in this research was body protein content which was measuredby using Urea Space methods. The data was collected at the first and last week of the experimental period. The results of this study indicated that different feeding time of the day and night did not show significant effect on the body proteins which was averaged of 0,55 kg. This study could be concluded that feeding time (day and/or night) had no effect on body protein development.Key words : Local Ram; Body protein;Complete feed;Feeding Time

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan kondisi fisiologis domba lokal jantan yang diberian pakan pada siang dan malam hari.Materi penelitian berupa 12 ekor dombalokal dengan bobot badan rata-rata 24,12+ 2,5 kg (CV=10,51%) dan umur ± 1 tahun. Pakan yang diberikan berupa complete feedberbentuk pelet dengan PK 16,6%dan TDN 67,36%.Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan 3 perlakuan (T1: pemberian pakan jam 6 pagi sampai jam 6 sore, T2: jam 6 sore sampai jam 6 pagi dan T3: selama 24 jam) dan 4 ulangan.Parameter yang diamati adalah konsumsi bahan kering(BK), pertambahan bobot badan harian (PBBH), dan fisiologis domba.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan pemberian pakan dengan waktu yang berbedatidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05) terhadap konsumsi BK, PBBH, frekuensi nafas dan temperatur rektal dengan rataan 1.058,23 g/hari,73 g/hari, 82 kali/menit dan 38,90C. Akan tetapi denyut nadi mengalami perbedaan yang nyata(P<0,05) antara T2 (93 kali/menit) dengan (T1 103 kali/menit) dan T3 (111 kali/menit).Simpulan penelitian ini adalah pemberian pakan siang, malam, dan siang malam hari pada domba lokaljantan terhadap konsumsi BK, PBBH, frekuensi nafas dan temperatur rektal relatif sama, tetapi  T2 memiliki rataan denyut nadi yang lebih rendah dari pada T1 dan T3. Kata kunci : Domba lokal jantan;konsumsi BK; PBBH; fisiologis domba ABSTRACT This study was aimed to evaluate the physiological response of local ram fed at day and night time. Material used was 12 one year old rams with average body weight of 24.12 ±2.5 kg. The feed was given in form of pelleted complete feeding formulated to give 16.6% CP and 67.36% TDN. This study was done based on completely randomized design with 3 treatments were feed given at 06.00-18.00 (12 hours; day feeding = T1), feed given at 18.00-06.00 (12 hours; night feeding = T2) and feed given at 06.00-06.00 (24 hours; day and night feeding = T3) and 4 replications.The feeding time treatments Parameters observed were dry matter intake (DMI), average daily again (ADG) and animal physiological responses. The result showed that feeding time among day, night and day-night was similar (P>0.05) for DMI, ADG, breathing frequency and rectal temperature with average 1.058,23 g/day,73 g/day, 82 time per minute and 38,90C, but significantly different (P<0.05) between T2 93time per minute with T1 103 time per minuteand T3 111time per minuteon pulse.The conclusion could be drawn from this study was feeding time (day, night and day-night) hadno effect on DMI, ADG and physiological responses, except T2 had the average pulse rate lower that T1 and T3.   Key words :   Local ram; DMI; ADG;physiological response
