Abstract

Sexual violence has become a major issue in society after several cases of harassment often occur. The purpose of this study, first, is to find out the relationship between sexual violence in the theory of Michel Foucault and Johan Galtung. This study uses a qualitative method which is analyzed with a descriptive approach. The results show that Foucault describes this power relation in terms of Disciplinary Power which can be seen from the existing phenomenon that disciplines the internalization of the subjugation of lower castes into something that is considered normal, while in Galtung's view, the power relations between men and women have a tendency to maintain the status quo of men by oppressing women. Unfortunately, these actions are legitimized by elements of groups and institutions by normalizing these actions.

Abstract

Gender equality has been recognized and accepted as a normative framework for human development. The aim of this article is to explore in depth a pragmatic, action-based approach that will translate gender equality and women's empowerment programs into concrete reality. This study was carried out through action research in the Library Studies, in which the authors reviewed and analyzed gender-related studies for further conclusions to be drawn. The results of the study found that development goals regarding gender equality and women's empowerment are not only needed for sustainable development efforts in Indonesia; it also demands a pragmatic approach to appropriate policy formulation, program design, focused implementation and effective monitoring and evaluation in a climate of friendly political will, genuine commitment and a restoration of national orientation.
