Abstract

Research on the effect of host larval stage on survivorship of the parasitoid E. argenteopilosus was conducted under laboratory conditions. Survivorship was studied by using S. litura larval with different stage (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th instars). Result of the research indicated that development rate of the parasitoid E. argenteopilosus is faster when reared on 3rd instar larvae. The higher the level of host-instar larvae, shorter time was needed to complete the parasitoid’s life cycle. Only 4.67% of the larvae completed its development to pupal stage, and only 1% reached adulthood, with males being the dominant of the emerging adults.

Abstract

The lady beetle, Menochilus sexmaculatus is one of the biological control agents that can be used to control aphids. Presently, there is a lack of information about the effectiveness of this beetle to control aphids. The objective of this research was to study the functional response of M. sexmaculatus on Aphis gossypii at different ages of plants. All preys were exposed to one M. sexmaculatus adult for an hour at five different densities of aphids (10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 individuals) is four different ages of chilli plants (2,4,6, and 8 weeks). Data were analyzed by ANOVA and logistic regression to determine the type of functional response. The results showed that the ability of M. sexmaculatus to prey was not significant at 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 weeks old chilli plants. At 2 week old chilli plants M. sexmaculatus showed type I of functional response, while at 4, 6 and 8 weeks the functional response were type III.

Abstract

Research of the effect of adult feeding to longevity and fecundity of parasitoid Eriborus argenteopilosus Cameron (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) was conducted under laboratory conditions. Fitness was studied by feeding adults Eriborus with different types of food ( 10% honey, 10% yeast, aquadest). Results of the research indicated that fitness and longevity were highest when Eriborus was fed with 10% honey. There is a positive correlation between size and fecundity, suggesting certain measures of body length can be used as indicators of fitness.

Abstract

This predator is efective to control population of aphids, so the aim of research was to study the field population abundance, predator preference to this prey, and fitness character of M. sexmaculatus as predator. The population fluctuation was observed at conventional and organic farming. The preference test was conducted by choice and no choice test for some types of prey. Fitness test was performed by studying its prey, the number of eggs produced and number of eggs hatched. The results showed that M. sexmaculatus population abundance was fluctuated, the abundance higher in chili cultivated conventionaly than cultivated in organic farming. But in conventional farming decreased with increasing age of chili. Preference test showed that almost all species of aphids preferred by M. sexmaculatus. Some prey species found were aphids, thrips and Neotoxoptera. Predator fitness levels showed by the longevity of females ranged 9-10 days. Oviposition period was on average five days, while the post-oviposition was two days. The number of eggs produced ranged 100-200 eggs with an average of 135.3 eggs.

Abstract

This research purposed to study biology of Helopeltis sp. on cocoa and cucumber fruits. Research was done in insect bioecology laboratory using direct observation with 10 replications for each fruit. Parameter observed were copulation (hours), preoviposition time (days), number of eggs, nymphals, and adult periods (days), Oviposition time (days), and post oviposition time (days). The data obtained were analyzed descriptively and compared with t-test. Result of this research showed that Helopeltis sp. could thrive in cacao and cucumber fruits. Adult of Helopeltis sp. longevity in cacao fruits was 16 days and in cucumber fruits was 13 days. The number of eggs product average 10-10.9 eggs/female.

Abstract

The species of egg parasitoid in rice bug is necessary to know to be used as biological agent in the field. The research aimed to determine spesies of parasitoid, diversity index, parasitization level and parasitoid mortality which found in rice bug eggs in rice fields in West Sumatra. Purposive random sampling was used in this research for determining the sampling locations. Collecting eggs sampling was conducted for 1 km along transect line in sampling location. The collected eggs of 12 sampling locations then observed and identified in Laboratory of Insect Bioecology, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University. The result showed that the kind of egg parasitoid found in the field were Hadronotus leptocorisae and Ooencyrtus malayensis with each parasitization level were 22.3 ± 11.1 % and 4.2 ± 5.3 %, each the mortality were 57.8 ± 26.4% and 30.6 ± 37%, the diversity of egg parasitoid was low with the index 0.3858 Based on Shannon-Wienner.

Abstract

Biology and demographic statistics of lady beetle Coccinella  transversalis Thunberg (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) using Aphis gossypii (Hemiptera: Aphididae) as prey was studied in laboratory. Development of  C. transversalis from egg to adult was 31.02±4.73 days. The egg stage lasted for 2.33±0.58 days. Larva stage has four instars, which lasted for 2.43±0.19 days (instar I); 2.53 days±0.19 (instar II); 2.64±0.04 days (instar III), and 2.77±0.21 days (instar IV). A female laid 90.44±14.38 eggs. Meanwhile, gross reproduction rate (GRR) of C. transversalis was 74.80 individuals per generation, the net reproduction rate (R0) was 18.22 individual per female per generation, the innate capacity for increase (rm) was 0.46 individual female per day, the mean generation time (T) 12.40 days, and the double population value (DT) was 1.51 days. IntisariMasa perkembangan pradewasa dan imago serta keperidian Coccinella  transversalis (Thunberg) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) telah diteliti di laboratorium dengan menggunakan Aphis gossypii (Glover) (Homoptera: Aphididae) sebagai mangsa. Masa perkembangan C. transversalis sejak stadium telur hingga menjadi imago adalah 31,02±4,73 hari. Perkembangan larva terdiri dari empat instar, masa perkembangan instar I sampai IV berturut-turut adalah 2,43±0,19 hari; 2,53±0,19 hari; 2,64±0,04 hari, dan 2,77±0,21 hari, dengan masa pupa 3,18±0,77 hari. Umur imago betina C. transversalis lebih panjang jika dibandingkan dengan imago jantan yakni 15,14±1,90 dan 13,63±1,00 hari. Imago betina meletakkan telur setelah melewati masa pra oviposisi selama 2,67±0,58 hari. Masa oviposisi C. transversalis yakni 8,97±0,89 hari dengan jumlah telur yang diletakkan yakni 90,44±14,38 butir. Parameter demografi C. transversalis adalah laju reproduksi kotor (GRR) adalah 74,80 individu per generasi; laju reproduksi bersih (Ro) 18,22 individu per induk per generasi; laju pertumbuhan intrinsik (rm) sebesar 0,46 individu per induk per hari; masa rata-rata generasi (T) selama 12,40 hari; dan nilai pelipatgandaan populasi (DT) adalah 1,51 hari.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to evaluate the safety of mixture formulations of Tephrosia vogelii and Piper aduncum at various storage temperatures and their insecticidal activity against C. pavonana larvae. Formulations were made from T. vogelii and P. aduncum (1:5) in emulsifiable concentrate (EC) and wettable powder (WP) form. Both formulations have strong insecticidal activity against C. pavonana. This research used a randomized completed design in different temperature treatments. Insecticidal activity of formulations after storage was tested against C. pavonana. The treatments were done using deep leaf method in 5 concentrations and 5 replications. The results showed that LC95 value of EC formulation after storage at condition: below 4°C, room temperature, and 40°C were 0.19%, 0.34% and 0.21% respectively. Based on LC95 value of EC formulation from each treatment, indicated that EC formulation after storage could hold insecticidal activity as good as insecticidal activity before storage due to LC95 value after storage relatively lower than LC95 value before storage (0.35%). In the contrary, WP formulation activity was significantly decreased in all treatments compared to WP formulation activity before storage based on LC95 value.

Abstract

Jagung (Zea mays L.) merupakan tanaman serealia penting sebagai sumber karbohidrat bagi jutaan penduduk di dunia. Kutudaun (Hemiptera: Aphididae) merupakan salah satu hama penting pada tanaman jagung. Namun informasi tentang jenis kutudaun yang menyerang tanaman jagung hibrida di Solok, Sumatera Barat masih sangat terbatas. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui jenis spesies hama kutudaun yang menyerang tanaman jagung di Nagari Bukit Payo, Kecamatan Tanah Garam, Kabupaten Solok. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dari bulan Januari hingga Juni 2019. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah survei. Tanaman jagung yang dijadikan sampel dipilih secara acak (sampling). Pengambilan kutudaun tersebut dilakukan sebanyak 2x dengan waktu pengambilan selama musim tanam jagung hibrida. Kutudaun diperoleh dengan cara mengumpulkan koloni kutudaun yang terdapat pada bagian daun, batang dan tongkol dari tanaman jagung. Kemudian kutudaun langsung dimasukkan ke dalam tabung eppendorf yang telah berisi alkohol 96% menggunakan kuas, lalu diberi label lokasi dan tanggal pengambilan sampel. Selanjutnya kutudaun sampel dibawa ke Laboratorium Bioekologi Serangga, Departemen Proteksi Tanaman, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Andalas untuk mengetahui jenis dan jumlah individu kutudaun. Kutudaun diidentifikasi berdasarkan karakter morfologinya dengan menggunakan buku panduan Aphids on the World’s Trees, Aphids on the World Crops, Aphids on the World’s Herbaceous Plants and Shrubs. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tanaman jagung hibrida di Kecataman Tanah Garam, Kabupaten Solok terserang hama kutudaun (Hemiptera: Aphididae), namun populasi kutudaun tergolong rendah yaitu 262 kutudaun. Kutudaun yang ditemukan pada tanaman jagung di Nagari Bukit Payo, Kec. Tanah Garam, Kab. Solok adalah sebanyak 2 spesies yaitu Rhopalosiphum maidis Fitch dan Myzus persicae. Rendahnya populasi kutudaun yang menyerang tanaman jagung hibrida tersebut disebabkan karena beberapa faktor, seperti varietas jagung, pola tanam, dan praktek budidaya yang dilakukan oleh petani setempat.Kata kunci: Populasi, Aphididae, Jagung, Identifikasi, Kutudaun

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari karakter fisiologi isolat B. bassiana yang berasal dari berbagai inang dan virulensinya terhadap Spodoptera litura. Lima isolat B. bassiana yang diuji diisolasi dari hama Leptocorisa oratorius (F.) dan Hypothenemus hampei (Ferr.), rizosfer tanaman bawang daun buah kakao dan batang gandum. Karakter fisiologi yang diamati adalah daya kecambah konidia, pertumbuhan koloni, dan sporulasi, Cendawan diperbanyak pada media SDAY dan uji virulensi dilakukan terhadap larva instar II S. litura. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa daya kecambah konidia, pertumbuhan koloni dan sporulasi bervariasi antar isolat. Isolat B. bassiana yang diisolasi dari L. oratorius dan buah kakao memiliki karakter fisiologi yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan isolat lain. Kedua isolat ini juga lebih virulen terhadap larva instar II S. litura dengan mortalitas sebesar 80 – 81,67%.
