Abstract

Binderlessboard is one of the potential eco friendly products that can be developed. Utiliation of natural adhesives for non-wood composite is still very limited. Therefore, this research is focused on effects of citric acid content and pressing time on characteristics of particleboard made from peanut shell including its durability to dry wood termite attacks. Peanut shell particles were used as raw materials. Citric acid dissolved in liquid smoke which functioned as a water substitute solvent under a certain ratio and the concentration of the solution was adjusted to 60%. The use of liquid smoke is expected to increase the durability of the particleboard. Factors used in this research were citric acid content (10-30% based on dry weight particles) and pressing time (10 minutes and 15 minutes). Properties of particleboard were analyed based on Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) A 5908 for particleboard. The dry wood termite resistance was then analyzed for its weight loss and mortality after 4 weeks. The results showed that the best particleboard was obtained from the treatment of 30% citric acid content with 15 minutes of pressing time where only the modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity did not met the requirement of JIS A 5908 type 8 with the thickness swelling were 3.276%, water absorption were 44,991%, internal bonding were 4.679 kgf / cm², modulus of rupture were 26.822 kgf / cm², and modulus of elasticity were 8,986,058 kgf / cm². The best value of weight loss and mortality of dry wood termites on particleboard was obtained in a combination of 30% citric acid content with 10 minutes pressing time were 1.083% and 38.67% respectively.

Abstract

This research focused on the characteristics of particleboard made from preservation treated-particl es. Mahagony wood bioma ss waste was used as raw material. Liquid smoke at different concentrations (0%, 2.5%, and 5%) was applied for 24hours onto the particles. After dried in air dry condition, the particles were mixed with urea formaldehyde resin (7.5% and15%), and then were pressed using hot pressing system at 150oC for 10 minutes. The result showed that the particleboardusing 15% urea formaldehyde resin and made form 5% liquid smoke treated-particles provided the best performance, thatmet Japanese Industry Standard (JIS) A 5908. The mortality value of dry wood termites Cryptotermes cynocephalus Lightand the weight loss after termite attack at the same condition were 90.67% and 0.408%, respectively.

Abstract

The purposes of community service entitled "Kaliandra Planting as Energy Wood and Forage Livestock Feed on Agroforestry Crops Gerbosari Village Community Samigaluh Kulon Progo" are 1). To provide additional knowledge of Kaliandra (Calliandracallothyrsus) utilisation other than HMT that is as a raw material of energy source and 2). To practice the technique of Kaliandra planting on agroforestry system in Gerbosari Village. The way cattle developed in Dusun Keceme is "cut and carry system" or grazing system. Grazing systems make farmers provide land for HMT planting either in the form of grass or tree leaves. Public dissemination and discussion with the community resulted in an agreement that the program is not only Kaliandra planting, but the utilisation of Kaliandra as an energy wood and wood pellet introduction is needed by Keceme Hamlet community. Methods of implementation of community service are through 4 stages in one unity of scheme. The methods are 1) program dissemination, 2) counselling, 3) practice of using a wood pellet stove and 4) planting. The community service program can provide an initial understanding of the community of Keceme Hamlet about the benefits of Kaliandra as an alternative to renewable energy that is in the form of wood pellets. The technique of agroforestry cultivation of Kaliandra has long been practised by the people of Keceme Hamlet that is on the edge of the terrace of the land.

Abstract

The people of Gunungkidul have long experience in rehabilitation program. They manage marginal land be productive community forest. While, the quality of timber from community forest is lower than produced by Perhutani. It is caused the community forest has not been applied intensive silviculture technique. This community engagement program aims to: (1) up grade the farmer knowledge about intensive silviculture technique; (2) rise the farmer awareness for importance of applying intensive silviculture technique; (3) build up the farmer skill to apply intensive silviculture technique; (4) motivate the farmer to produce superior teak seedling and organic fertilizer independently. The target group of this program is the farmer group of Ngudi Makmur at Watusigar Village, Ngawen District, Gunungkidul Regency. This program was held on 2015 to 2016. The methods applied in this program are socialization, field study, training, practice, and technical assistance. The results of this program are demonstration plot of superior teak stand, hedge orchard and nursery of superior teak, and organic fertilizer using Trichoderma sp. This program also succesfull for increase of knowledge, awareness, skills and independence of farmer in applying of intensive silviculture technique.

Abstract

Kelompok pertukangan Muda Taruna Makmur dan Mitra Mandiri merupakan kelompok usaha mikro dibidang produk perkayuan dan mebel yang berlokasi di Desa Pagerharjo Kecamatan Samigaluh, Kabupaten Kulon Progo, D.I. Yogyakarta. Kelompok pertukangan ini beranggotakan pemuda-pemuda dalam satu desa. Mengingat potensi kayu dari hutan rakyat di Desa Pagerharjo yang sangat besar, maka sangat potensial sekali untuk dibuat usaha pembuatan produk mebel serta kerajinan. Permasalahan yang dialami oleh kelompok mitra adalah rendahnya kemampuan dalam membuat produk perkayuan sampai tahap finishing, kurangnya pemanfaatan teknologi informasi sebagai sarana pemasaran, minimnya kemampuan dalam membuat inovasi dan desain produk serta kurangnya keahlian dalam teknologi finishing kayu. Selama ini, produk perkayuan yang dihasilkan adalah berupa produk mebel setengah jadi seperti meja, kursi dan lemari yang dijual ke industri mebel kayu yang lebih besar atau dijual ke konsumen secara langsung. Tujuan program ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kapasitas kelompok pertukangan di Desa Pagerharjo dalam teknologi finishing kayu, manajemen pemasaran serta membuat inovasi desain produk. Solusi yang ditawarkan dalam program ini meliputi: pelatihan teknologi finishing produk perkayuan atau mebel, peningkatan kemampuan dalam desain dan inovasi produk  serta pelatihan penggunaan teknologi informasi sebagai sarana pemasaran. Kata kunci: Kelompok pertukangan, mebel, produk kayu, teknologi informasi, teknologi finishing
