Abstract

The objectives of this study were to determine the population density of A .craccivora and its dispersion on groundnut plant under different soil water availabitiles. the study was conducted in a greenhouse of Crop and Horticultural Plant Protection Institute Region III, Palembang since August to November 2001 using corrpletely randomized design with four levels of soil water availabilities and four replications. Each replication consisted of two plants, which were planted on different black, polyvinyl bag. The treatments were 40, 60, 80, and 100% soil water availabitiles The results showed that types of dispersion of A. craccivora on the whole part of groundnut planted on all soil water availabilities tested were similat n, each other. The population was found higher on young leave and bud leave, then followed on leaf stalk, f lower/gynophore, and stem respectively. The differences in the length of leaft trachoma , number of stem trichoma, and water content of leave and stem were the determinant factors, which influenced the population of A. craccivora on leave and stem in the maximum of population density.

Abstract

Guava (Psidium guajava L.) is a tropical plant that comes from southern Mexico and Central America. The rising demand of guava in Indonesia encourages the cultivation of guava which systematically with considerable high economic value. Decreasing productivity of guava currently caused by the attack of fruit flies. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a research on trapping at several heights. This study uses a randomized block design (RAK) with a height of 0.5 m, 1.5 m and 2.5 m. The results have shown that the effective control of the pest trap fruit flies in the area of guava plant height of 1.5 m is the number of fruit flies were trapped as much as 59.25 flies, the number of male fruit flies were trapped 22.50 flies, female flies were trapped 36, 75 flies and the sex ratio comparison is 1: 1,7. Abstract

Green stink bugNezara viridula L. (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) is one of the important pest on long beans plant. One alternative that can be used to minimize the application of chemical pesticides is an extract powder from the babadotan leaf (Ageratum conyzoides L.). This research is purpose  to get the better concentration of a babadotan’s leaf powder extract (Ageratum conyzoides L.) for controllinggreen stink bug Nezara viridula L. at long beans plant. This research was conducted at the Center for Agricultural Development and Plant Pests Laboratory Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau from April to June 2015. This research was carried out experimentally by using completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications.Treatment consists of several concentrations of  babadotan’s leaf powder extract 75 g/l of water, the concentration of 85 g/l of water, the concentration of 90 g/l of water, the concentration of 95 g/l of water, the concentration of 100 g/l of water. The parameters observed were the initial time of death (hours), lethal time 50 (hours), daily mortality (%),total mortality (%), lethal concentration 50 and 95 (LC50 and LC95) (%), temperature and humidity as supporting observations. The results showed that the concentration of  100 g/l of water caused total mortality 72,50%, this has not yet reached a good concentration in the control of green stink bug because not being able to control the green stink bug over 80%, while the value of LC95 obtained is greater than 10%, it is16,8% or equivalent to 168 g/l of water.   Keyword:Long bean (Vigna sinensis L.), Babadotan (Ageratum conyzoides L.), Green stink bug(Nezara viridula L.).

Abstract

Seedless watermelon is promising commodity. Some breeding program are, therefore, needed to obtain prime progeny of crossing. The use of suitable pollinators can improve agronomic traits like sugar level, fruit’s diameter, fruit’s length, etc. To obtain desired information, a field research was conducted using Plot Random Design with two replications of two triploid and nine diploid watermelons and they were combined to get thirty-six combinations. The analysis used to support the information was Analysis of Variance, and Duncan’s Test. The information obtained was that good results are found on agronomic traits of sugar level and fruit’s diameter. Fruit’s diameter were satisfying in the crossing between Pretty Orchid (V1) and Grand Master (P7), and TM Tiger (P8) and China Dragon (P3), sized 21,49 cm and 20,21 cm, respectively.

Abstract

Oil palm is a pre-eminent commodity in Indonesia, especially in Riau Province. The main pests that attack the oil palm is the pest of beetle Oryctes rhinoceros. The life cycle of pre-adult O. rhinoceros is on the ground, while the one that attacks the plant is the beetle stadia. The application of oil palm empty bunches (OPEB) to oil palm cultivation that functions as mulch and soil compost can improve the physical and biological properties of the soil, otherwise O. rhinoceros actually increases its population with OPEB application. The objective of this research is to know the population of O. rhinoceros in oil palm plantation given mulch of empty palm oil bunches. Research using survey method, observation done at PT. Adei Plantation & Industry. Observations made on the pradati with the size of the soil as a sample, to catch the adult beetles used ferotrap using pheromones as much as 5 ferotrap on 10 ha of land. Observations included the pre-adult population, the beetles population of O. rhinoceros, sex ratio, biomass, attack intensity. The results of research that has been done showsthat in the low adults population were the average of 8 tails per week, instar 2 most found was 15 tails. The population of beetles O. rhinoceros were the average of 23.8 tail / ferotrap / month. Population O. rhinoceros 1st week and 2nd, 3rd week decreased, lowest was at 4th week. The sex ratio of female and male beetles was 19.4: 4.4 or 4.54: 1. The intensity of O. rhinoceros attack was 11.72 ± 2.01% belonging to the category of minor attacks. Keywords: beetles O. rhinoceros, oil palm empty bunches, fluctuations, population.
