Abstract

There are so many buildings that became the point of interest of a space and create a unique character for a city. Therefore, a great planning and design of the building and the environment can contribute a good image for a city. This community service activity aims to give a supervision about building and environment design of a school building that might affect image of the city. Participants were the teachers of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Muhammadiyah (MIM) Kertak Hanyar. The tools and materials used in the supervision are a mini portable projector, laptop and Microsoft power point software. The outcomes of this activity was a new planning and design for the school that based on the character of Banjarmasin mixed with modern elements with minimum budget for the renovation. The unique character of the school roof is the element that conserved together with the specific material for the building.

Abstract

Peatlands - as a wetland area with distinctive characteristics - have its own challenges and difficulties for farmers to grow rice, especially in the Anjir Pasar Seberang area which is one of a suburban area of South Kalimantan, Indonesia. The planting and harvest period can only be done once a year when the land experiences a receding period during the dry season. Thus, farmers need other income alternatives to fill the vacancy during the high season. Floating farming which is the local wisdom of the people in several countries in Southeast Asia is one alternative that can be used when the high tide arrives. Several studies on the modification of this method on a household and urban scale have been carried out. Therefore, it can be one of the solutions for the farming community. The introduction of the modified Farming Methods and Techniques was carried out to provide farmers with other income options besides conventional farming. The local community is interested in this method because of its ease of handling

Abstract

Sustainable Urban Development is common in European countries, especially the Netherlands. Cities in the Netherlands already implemented some of the sustainability principles. This condition might differ from Banjarmasin which at the moment facing some urban problems such as water and water management, limited green space, etc. There is a similarity between cities in the Netherlands and Banjarmasin where the city has so many canals across the urban area. This community service intended for the students as future planner to acknowledge sustainable urban development and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The students shall be able to apply the principles in the field after the workshop. The participants are the students of Urban and Regional Planning in University of Muhammadiyah Banjarmasin as the future planners. The tools and materials used along the training were Skype, Microsoft Power Point. The outcomes of this activity are the future planners can identify and analyze points of SDGs related to urban planning, and proposed ideas about the implementation of sustainable urban development in Banjarmasin.
