Abstract

DOI: 10.17014/ijog.6.1.57-72Sitting in a biodiversity “hotspot” of the mid-Sunda Shelf region, Karimunjawa Islands have currently been the priority for marine biodiversity conservation. Knowledge of surface sediments on modern carbonate platform is one of essential information to support conservation policies, but such has received little attention from reef researchers. This study describes the sediment characteristics of the selected modern carbonate platforms of Karimunjawa Islands through integrated sediments and satellite data analysis. Textural group of sediments indicates that moderate to poorly sorted gravelly sands are dominant with no grading pattern concerning geomorphological and habitat succession from landward to seaward. Sediment compositions are predominantly bioclastic components, comprising coral and mollusks as the highest and the second highest estimated order of abundance. The reworked grains and rock fragments, although present, are not volumentary abundant. The carbonate sedimentary facies is primarily composed of mud-lean packstone with additional proportion of grainstone and packstone. There are only slight distinct sedimentological characteristics for all benthic habitats as shown by the principal component analysis revealing overlap relationship between sediment parameters and benthic habitats. The study provides the first characterization of sediments which operate on the modern carbonate platform of Karimunjawa Islands along with their controlling factors and specialized nature.

Abstract

Based on the availability of hybrid rice seeds which are needed by farmers and expensive prices and the interest of farmers around Banyubiru, Ambarawa, therefore this research was conducted. This research used restorer which come from seven local lines and two lines of Cytoplasmic Male Sterile (CMS) from China which were adapted in research location. The expectation on this research in long time is to produce local hybrid rice seeds from hybridization of both excellent line from China and excellent local varieties. The aim of this research are (1) to produce both potential CMSs and potential restorers, (2) to produce parent hybrid rice which could produce Indonesia new hybrid varieties in long time. This research was conducted in Kayuwangi village, Banyubiru sub district, Semarang regency, from May to September 2009. Methods of line description and hybridization, and parent selection technique were based on combining ability of hybridization which were conducted to get  tested  parents. All material in this research were observed and evaluated. From this research can be concluded that:  (1) candidate of  both restorer and CMS has been got their description, which were adapted to the condition of rice field in Banyubiru, Semarang regency, (2) hybridization result of restorers and CMSs have shown their combining ability, (3) effort to get restorer of CMS lines were not success. Suggestion which made were (1) Saving of  seeds from first hybridization yield will be planted continuously in attempting to produce description of new hybrid varieties, (2)  Doing continual research on variability of plant phenotype (F2) which show character of local CMS, (3) Doing back cross to relevant parents in efforts to maintain determined character of  plant phenotype, and (4) Doing research of variation plant phenotype occurred, which could give maintainer lines.

Abstract

Pemetaan menggunakan SBP adalah teknik penginderaan bawah permukaan yang secara umum menggunakan alat khusus yang memancarkan gelombang akustik yang memiliki sistem gelombang satu saluran (single channel) dan digunakan untuk menampilkan profil seismik dasar laut dangkal. Alat yang digunakan untuk memetakan lapisan dasar laut adalah Sub-Bottom Profile (SBP). Tugas Akhir ini akan memberikan penjelasan tentang proses pengolahan data Sub-Bottom Profile (SBP) menggunakan (Dua) Perangkat Lunak Coda Survei Engine Seismic+ dan Sonarwiz yang mengidentifikasi dan mengukur variasi dari lapisan-lapisan sedimen yang berada dibawah dasar permukaan dasar laut. Proses pengolahan data Sub-Bottom Profile (SBP) menggunakan (Dua) Perangkat Lunak Coda Survei Engine Seismic+ dan Sonarwiz untuk mendapatkan gambaran lapisan dibawah permukaan dasar laut (longitudinal profile), ketebalan lapisan sedimen (isopach) serta mendapat kan perbedaan kekurangan dan kelebihan antar (Dua) sofware tersebut.

Abstract

Peningkatan aktivitas di bidang reklamasi pesisir berupa penambangan pasir dan mineral, operasi pengerukan (dredging) serta pembangunan sarana pemukiman diwilayah pesisir membutuhkan peta-peta dasar laut yang akurat. Sub Bottom Profiler (SBP) merupakan salah satu instrument akustik bawah air yang mempunyai frekuensi yang rendah, sehingga mampu menggambarkan lapisan sedimen dibawah dasar laut. Informasi jenis sedimen dasar laut dapat dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode akustik bawah laut termasuk dengan menggunakan SBP. Keunggulan SBP dibandingkan instrument akustik bawah air lainnya adalah dapat digunakan untuk mengestimasi ketebalan sedimen permukaan tersebut. Pada penelitian ini telah dilakukan klasifikasi sedimen permukaan dasar laut di perairan utara Kabupaten Banten dengan cara menghitung nilai koefisien refleksi data SBP dengan membandingkan energi pantulan (ERx) dengan energi yang dipancarkan (ETx) yang kemudian dikalibrasi dengan data sampling sedimen yang juga diambil pada saat survei dilakukan. Sedangkan ketebalan sedimen permukaan dilakukan dengan melakukan picking horizon di penampang SBP antara lapisan dasar laut dengan reflector yang pertama. Selisih antara dua reflector tersebut merupakan nilai ketebalan. Area survei adalah perairan utara kabupaten Serang Banten karena lokasi ini merupakan area penambangan pasir, sehingga memiliki jenis sedimen yang homogen. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah nilai koefisien refleksi dengan rata-rata 0.3076 sampai dengan 0.4501 yang kemudian diklasifikasikan sesuai dengan tabel Hamilton 1982 pasir kasar, pasir halus, pasir sangat halus dan pasir lembut. Nilai ketebalan sedimen berkisar antara 0 sampai dengan 6.3 meter dengan rata-rata 1.47 meter.
