Abstract

Community service activities have been carried out at SDN Inpres Dobonsolo, Jayapura Regency, Papua Province. This activity was in the form of counseling and demonstrations about the introduction of chemistry through Fun Chemistry for students. The purpose of this service is to increase and train creativity and foster students' interest in chemistry. Activities carried out by introducing the role of chemistry in everyday life and conducting simple experiments such as rainbows in bottles; blowing gas balloons using mentos and baking soda; elephant toothpaste; and color magic. Experiments were carried out using tools and materials that are easily available around at home or school. Students are very enthusiastic, active, interactive, and not rigid in conducting simple experiments at the demonstration stage. In other words, through Fun Chemistry students can develop skills in science and scientific attitudes, so that the assumption about learning chemistry is difficultKeywords: SDN Inpres Dobonsolo; Chemistry; Fun Chemistry; Simple Experiment

Abstract

Community service activities have been carried out at SMA PGRI Jayapura, Heram District, Jayapura City, Papua Province. The purpose of this service is to increase students' interest in chemistry through scientific papers training with simple research methods. The initial stage carried out in this activity is the socialization of scientific papers. The next stage is conducting simple research, processing data and training in writing scientific papers. The research topic chosen is the determination of water hardness by complexometry. During this activity the students were very enthusiastic and motivated. This can be seen when students listen to material explanations, discuss, conduct research and write reports. Based on the evaluation results, the success rate of this activity reached 80%. This is because there are still some students who have difficulty in processing data and writing reports. Therefore, the role of the teacher is very important in assisting students to increase interest and creativity in producing a scientific work. Keywords: training; scientific work; SMA PGRI Jayapura

This service is carried out at SMA PGRI Jayapura, Papua Province. The purpose of this service is to increase interest in learning chemistry, and to grow and train students' creativity in chemistry through simple practicums. The topics for this service are NaOH and HCl titration, electrochemistry, making metal batteries, and simple calorimeters using stayroform. The achievements of this community service activities have a positive impact on students. The students were very enthusiastic, active, and interactive. The students become motivated and eager to learn chemistry. Keywords:  training; Practicum methods; Chemistry learning; SMA PGRI Jayapura
