Abstract

As one of the English skills, listening needs more than one instance in hearing because it is not only hearing but also understanding and interpreting the meaning of the conversation. Therefore, to make the students interested and easy to understand in listening, the lecturer applied blended learning. The primary focus of this research is to observe the implementation of blended learning in teaching listening. This is a qualitative research of which the subject is the students in one class. There are 28 students, 9 males and 19 females. The data were collected by interviewing the listening lecturer, observing the activities in the classroom and giving the questionnaire to the students. The result of the research showed that the implementation of blended learning in teaching listening at university was able to improve the students’ listening skill. In summary, this study demonstrated that the use of blended learning in teaching listening offered ways for lecturers to be more effective in the teaching and learning process and brought positive outcomes for the students. Keywords: Blended learning, listening, teaching

Abstract

Online learning has been main concern in today’s teaching learning process since the rising use of internet. It offers many variant activities and it becomes new alternative way to communicate among teacher and students. Recently students and teachers are expected to have decent knowledge in digital learning as one way to facilitate their learning process. One form of digital learning is using Edmodo in the class. The e-learning model using edmodo was developed to support teaching and learning process in University of Nusantara PGRI Kediri. This media offers an authentic material that can be accessed anytime and anywhere. This model also gives the external links to get the other resources in the World Wide Web. The external links given is related to a discussion topic or material, and it is to improve the students' knowledge and skill in teaching and learning. Because this media is a e-learning model, the students enjoy when they browse and take a look into the material provided. Some of researchers have done the research on it, yet these studies mostly focus on the teachers’ perception towards its application in their classes. This study is a bit different as it is concentrated on students’ perceptions or voice towards Edmodo application in the class. The aim of this study is to explore students’ perception or students’ voice on online learning particularly Edmodo application in class.

Abstract

In recent years, the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), especially the internet, in teaching and learning process becomes an essential part of the teachers’ duties. As a teacher, we should be able to integrate the internet in teaching and learning process and purpose of this new medium as potential source to our students to improve their English competence. One of the internet facilities is Edmodo. It refers to as with any social network, can be used as a place to post and critique work, facilitate collaboration, and post creative material for an audience. The activities are not only focused on the students and teacher, but also the parents too. Parents can also view this Edmodo, either under their child's username or they may create their own account. Drawing from author’s experience in integrating Edmodo into his class for first and third year’s students of English Study Program, University of Nusantara PGRI Kediri, this paper attempts to demonstrate some potential uses of Edmodo in teaching learning process. Some pedagogical implications are further discussed. Using these Edmodo,it is expected that students will develop their English skills as well as have a lot of fun.

Abstract

Reading a foreign written text may arise many problems to the students. During teaching learning process, most of the students think that it is difficult to master reading skill because when they discuss about reading a text they usually get bored. The material becomes big problem because the text is too long and it uses difficult vocabularies. Teaching reading can means the activity of language by encouraging skimming, scanning, predicting, and activating schemata. There are three steps of teaching reading, they are pre reading, whilst reading and post reading. In teaching reading there are three process of reading, they are top-down processing, bottom-up processing and interactive reading. Reading material that can be used is authentic material, authentic material is materials written or spoken language that is produced in real communication and not for purpose of language teaching for example newspapers, magazines, TV programs, movies, songs and literature. This is a qualitative research. The data was obtained from observation, interview and documentation. The writer collects the data by preparing the instrument, observing the reading class, interviewing the teacher and collecting written document used. The result of the research shows that the materials used by the teacher to teach reading are articles taken from some foreign magazines and online news from the internet because it contains materials about many things related to real life which would make students interested in reading the text. So it can be concluded that the teaching learning process of reading class runs effectively. The teacher uses steps that make the students understand the materials easily. Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of interactive multimedia to students’ reading comprehension at Literal Reading class. All participants were conveniently selected from the first year students of English Language Education Department at  Nusantara PGRI Kediri University. Thirthy participants were assigned as a sample. Quantitative method and experimental approach with One-Group Pretest-Post design were applied in this present study. Data collection through pre-test and post- test. Pre-test was administered before treatment, while post-test was administered after treatment. After gaining the data, t- test was analyzed using SPSS 23. The analyzes resulted in the finding that there was a significant difference score in pre- test and post-test. The mean score of post-test was better than pre-test. Thus, it can be said that interactive multimedia can impact the students’ reading comprehension of the first year of English Language Education Department at Nusantara PGRI Kediri University.

Abstract

Teaching materials or often referred to as learning materials are the most important part in the learning process, the subject matter is the core of learning activities.Teachers in carrying out the learning process required a teaching material because it is used to assist teachers in teaching and learning activities in the classroom. One of the important problems faced by faculty in learning activities is choosing or determining teaching materials or appropriate learning materials in order to help students achieve competence.This dedication to the community is carried out in the NEPTUNE Kediri hospitality school located at Jl.KH. Hasyim Ashari No.49, Bandar Kidul Kediri. By conducting training on the development of teaching materials and teaching media based on interactive media to the teachers in NEPTUNE it is expected that these teachers can become a) competent teachers according to their field of knowledge, b) the teachers are expected to have the ability to develop teaching materials and teaching media appropriately to suit students' needs.Several meetings were held to present more appropriate materials to the teachers. So that the teachers will have the ability to understand what is needed by their students especially after they graduate from the NEPTUNE.

Abstract

Reading is one of skills of language that must be mastered by students. However, students often face the difficulties to comprehend a text. They have problem to get information from a reading text such as identifying social function, identifying main idea, finding explicit and implied information, finding references, finding synonym and antonym because the students have limited vocabulary. Using pre-experimental quantitative design, namely one group pre- and post-test design, this study was intended to investigate the effect of CSR to the students’ reading comprehension. This research used cluster sampling technique consisting of 35 students. The data value was analyzed using Paired Sample T-test of SPSS Statistic version 23. The data analysis showed that the average score of students’ pre-test was 63.14 while the post-test score was 84.57. The t-test computation collected by comparing the results of pre-test and post-test showed the mean score 21.429 and standard deviation 11.086. The result was t-score -11.435 with the significant (2-tailed) value is lower than 0.05. In conclusion CSR (Collaborative Strategic Reading) has significant influence on students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

This research was direction to improve students’ speaking skill though YouTube Video and to know how the implementation of the technique improving students’ speaking skill in English speaking. This research was accomplished at Eleventh of SMA Wahidiyah Gumukmas Jember in which consisted of 4 students as respondent. To solve students’ problem in teaching learning English especially in speaking skill, the researcher applied Classroom Action Research (CAR) designed by Burns which consisted of four phases; planning, acting, observing and reflecting, on each cycle. There were two kinds of data gained in this study; qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data can derive from the observation, fieldnote and interview. Meanwhile, the quantitative data can derive from the pre-test and post-test. The result of this study showed that the implementation of YouTube Video to improve students’ speaking skill was successful. It was proven by the data that were collected from this study. The qualitative data showed improvement of the students’ motivation, interest and confident to speaking English after the implementation of YouTube Video as media. The result of the test showed improvements in students’ speaking score. In pre-test, there was no one students 0% who pass the minimum mastery criterion KKM out of 4 students which the mean score was only 55. Then, in post-test for cycle I, the percentage of students who passed the minimum mastery criterion KKM improve to 50% or 2 out of 4 students passed the minimum mastery criterion KKM with 70 as the mean score. Next, in post-test for cycle II, the mean score was 82. The result of the test shows significant improvement where 100% of the students could achieve the score above the minimum criterion which at least 75. Based on the result above, YouTube Video may be concluded successfully improve students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

Electronic/digital-based learning tools can be easily obtained by the presence of information technology devices. Through this information technology network, educators can use it in learning. Especially during the current covid-19 pandemic which requires learning to be carried out online (in a network). Teachers/educators need to improve their abilities and skills in making learning tools. The community service team at Universitas Nusantara PGRI Kediri, took the initiative to help teachers at SMA Muhammadiyah Kediri improve their skills through workshops. The workshop can be carried out according to plan and goes well. The mastery of the material and the results of the learning media are in the very good category. Evaluation of digital learning in online learning is more varied. This activity also received a good response, as evidenced by the questionnaire given by the service team, which was included in the very good category.
