Identitas Budaya Orang Indonesia dalam Kota Virtual Jepang (Studi Etnografi Virtual Terhadap Pengguna “Ameba Pigg”)

Abstract

AbstrakAmeba Pigg adalah media sosial Jepang berbentuk dunia virtual. Walaupun diciptakan dengan basis budaya Jepang, terdapat orang-orang Indonesia yang tinggal di dalamnya. Dengan adanya perbedaan budaya tersebut, penelitian ini mencoba untuk memahami bagaimana identitas budaya yang ditunjukkan, bagaimana proses terbentuknya dan hal-hal apa yang berkontribusi dalam proses tersebut. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif, dilakukan dengan metode etnografi virtual, didukung wawancara mendalam terhadap tiga orang informan yang telah tinggal bertahun-tahun di Ameba Pigg, serta menggunakan teknik analisis tematik. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah terjadi hibriditas antara budaya Jepang dan Indonesia di dalam identitas budaya para informan yang tersebut terbentuk melalui proses adaptasi budaya. Dalam proses tersebut ada tiga hal yang paling berkontribusi: motivasi, makna Ameba Pigg bagi informan, serta konsumsi budaya populer Jepang informan. AbstractAmeba Pigg is a Japanese social media which takes form as a virtual world. Although it was created within the basis of Japanese culture, there are Indonesian people who live in it. With the cultural gap existed between them, this research aims to understand the cultural identity shown by informants, the becoming process of the identity, and things contributed in that process. This research is a qualitative research, done by virtual ethnography and supported with in depth interview method towards three informants who live in Ameba Pigg for years, also using thematic analysis method. The result of this research is a finding of a hybridity between Japanese and Indonesian culture in informants’ identity which is formed by a process of cultural adaptation. In the process, there are three things contributed the most: motivation, the meaning of Ameba Pigg for informants, and the consumption of Japanese popular culture by informants.
