Abstract

The dissertation explains about capacity and flow inside terminal buildings in two regional airports in Indonesia: Minangkabau and Adisutjipto International Airports. Both airports have similar characteristics of passengers’ number and locations as tourism areas. Secondary data in the form of existing terminal layouts and air traffic numbers were gained from both airports authorities in Indonesia. The analysis was carried out using the formulas from Japan International Cooperation Agency – Directorate General of Civil Aviation of Indonesia(JICA-DGCA) studies in 1996 for significant areas in the terminal building, Ashford and Wright formula for calculating aircraft movement per hour, Microsoft Excel for calculating the 10-year passenger growth rate, and SPSS for determining the linear equation for domestic departure resulted in the forecasted saturation in the near 2020 for both of airports, especially on passengers’ handling areas such as boarding lounge (for departure) and baggage claim area (for arrival). The research resulted in ideas to overcome problems related to the increasing capacity by adding areas (if possible) and changing layouts. Some other options such as implementation of more effective signage and the suggestion of centralizing security checking areas also are being brought—though needed further research. There should be an addition of numbers of security check lines, appropriately to the increasing number of passengers. Abstract

Potential evapotranspiration (PET) is an importance process in water balance studies controlled by a number of meteorological factors such as temperature, wind speed, atmospheric pressure, solar radiation, vapor pressure gradient, relative humidity and biological factors such as vegetation type, canopy height and plant density that varied in time-scale and in spatial scale. Of all those variables, determining the most controlling factors of evapotranspiration in humid and arid area is of interest of this paper. Two sites representing humid and arid area i.e. Fermi Prairie site in Illinois and Audubon Research Ranch in Arizona respectively were investigated in this study.  The flux data employed in this study was acquired from Ameriflux Netwotk. Penmann-Monteith formula is employed in to estimate evapotranspiration rate in both sites. The result shows that the PET is in dependence on the considered meteorological factor such as shortwave radiation, vapor pressure, air temperature, wind speed, net radiation and vapor pressure deficit. It is also can be inferred from the analysis that PET is also strongly controlled by vegetation factors represented as stomatal resistance. Abstract

Unit Hydrograph (UH) theory is known as the old theory applied in designing water works. This has been developed by Sherman 80 years ago, but up to now its merit is still studied all over the world. Even the last publication was found in the year 2009. There are some numbers of questions following its applications. One major problem is the number of cases used in deriving observed UH to obtain the representative unit hydrograph. Studies have been done in some catchments in Central Java and in Yogyakarta special territory, by comparing design discharge calculated with representative UH derived from several cases and the discharge obtained from frequency analysis. The result showed that representative UH derived from 10 cases or more give more or less constant deviation. Keywords: Unit Hydrograph, Representative Unit Hydrograph, Linearity.

Abstract

This paper presents the use of Finite Element Method for heat transfer analysis. Connections wall-beam-floor structures with different positions of the thermal insulation have been analyzed and conclusions about energy efficiency and energy loss are made. Abstract

Yogyakarta has a problem related to pedestrians. The inappropriate implementation of crossing facility and disobedience of pedestrians while crossing the street leads to conflicts between pedestrians and vehicular traffic. Taking the road section of Colombo Street as the case study, this research proposed pelican crossing with independent and coordination time signal operation. Using Aimsun software, the existing traffic signal, geometric design, traffic flow and turning proportion were taken into account to build the initial model. Afterwards, a calibration of queue length and a validation of vehicle speed were carried out to obtain a basic model which represents the existing condition of the system. Comparing the basic model and the alternatives in terms of performances of junctions, road section and pedestrians in the pelican, this research resulted in setting double cycling of pelican as 100 seconds for the independent operation and setting common cycle time 120 seconds for the coordination operation as the best alternatives. In addition, the implementation of pelican crossing brought about the reduction of vehicle speed in the road section so that the safety of pedestrian increased. Abstract

This paper presents the plastic analysis of steel frame structure loaded by gravity loads. By applying the cinematic theorem of ultimate analysis, the ultimate load for the case of elastic - ideally plastic material is calculated. The identical structure was treated in the computer program SAP2000 where the zone of material reinforcement in the plastic area was covered. Abstract

Bus is expected to play an important role in providing a reliable travel in congested conditions. Therefore, it has been widely studied to minimize the travel time and the delay of the bus by proposing bus priority scheme to increase the attractiveness of public transport against private vehicles. Signal timing optimization combined with the bus priority scheme are discussed in this research as the alternatives to improve the intersection performances. Further, identifying the effects of these alternatives towards the general vehicles and public transport system performances were the aims of this research as well. As the result of this research, bus advance area with pre-signal method is able to reduce the travel time and delay of the bus for routes 2A and 3A by 11%, 23% and 14% , 0% respectively and able to reduce travel time, delay, and queue of vehicles by 25%, 26%, 7% consecutively. Thus bus advance area with pre-signal method is proposed as the best alternative due to its impact to reduce the bus travel times and delay without degrading the other vehicles performance. Abstract

Selecting a design solution (choice problem) is one of the natures of design decision. If the problem is more complex and involves multi participants, decision aid is necessary. This paper discusses the nature of group judgment and negotiation on multi-criteria decision-making methodologies. It presents a conceptual model of negotiation support in a multi-person decision on building floor system selection. Decision technique (AHP) was applied for decision process in a satisfying options and game theory for coalition formation. An n-person cooperative game is represented by a set of all players. The proposed coalition formation model enables each agent to select individually or coalition. It improves the value of building system decision. It further emphasizes the importance of performance evaluation in the design process and value-based decision. The support model can be extended to an automated negotiation and in different building system selection with proper  modification.
