Abstract

This research aims to test the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model. The subjects of this study were 38 of eighth-grade students of Muhammadiyah Middle School Aimas, Sorong Regency, West Papua. The research used a quasi-experimental method, using Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The experimental class uses the PBL learning model by applying VR Math, while the learning control class is carried out with conventional models, namely lectures and frequently asked questions. The instruments used for data collection were observation, tests, and questionnaires. The test instrument consisted of learning outcomes tests and students' logical thinking abilities. The other instrument is questionnaire for students' responses to PBL learning using the VR Math application. The results of the study concluded that the PBL learning model using the VR Math application is not effective if measured from student learning outcomes, conversely, the PBL learning model uses the VR Math application effectively when considered from students' logical thinking abilities.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to consider the benefit of applying GeoGebra interactive media to improve student achievement in learning derivatives. This study was experimental research using counterbalance design. The population of the study was four classes of grade XI students of SMA Negeri 3 Jayapura academic year 2018/2019 consisting of 122 students. Purposive sampling was applied in this study to get two experimental classes with the number of students were 22 and 26 respectively. In both experimental groups received the same treatment which were learning using GeoGebra interactive media and learning without using GeoGebra interactive media which applied orderly. This process was implemented four times at both classes interchangeably. The data of the study was collected from participant’s pretest and posttest at every learning treatment. Data was analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed test with the significance level (two-tailed) of 0.05. The result of the study shows that there are significant differences in learning outcomes of the two types of learning. The learning process which was designed using GeoGebra interactive media obtained the superior learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research aims to produce teaching materials in the form of Student Activity Sheet (SAS) in transformations for students of class VII SMP/MTs based curriculum 2013 and to test the feasibility of SAS in mathematics learning. This research is a development with the steps of Research and Development (R&D) of the ADDIE   model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The research is carried out at SMP N 1 Prambanan Sleman and SMPN 4 Kalasan, Sleman. The research data is obtained from the questionnaire evaluation media matter by media matter experts, questionnaire evaluation media by media experts, questionnaire evaluation student responses by students. The research data are analyzed by the process of descriptive analysis and the process of analysis questionnaire with Likert scale. The results showed that the SAS of mathematics developed are good quality with an average percentage of ideals 82,416% and validity criteria by 67,999% < ???? ≤ 83,998%. DOI:  https://doi.org/10.30862/jhm.v1i1.804

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of teachers in the teaching process in terms of aspects of mathematics teacher competency. It describes how the four teacher competencies have been running in the learning process in the classroom based on students' perceptions related to student competencies themselves using Structural Equation Modeling data analysis techniques (SEM). The study population was all junior high school students in Merauke City, Papua. The method of sampling was used proportional random sampling, which is continued by simple random sampling, to obtain a total sample of 436 students. The data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires to students' perceptions about the performance of mathematics teachers consisting of 48 questions in the form of a Likert scale. The results obtained that pedagogic and social competencies are competencies that affect student competencies with mathematics teacher pedagogical competence is most influential on student competencies. Therefore, to improve student competency, teachers need to improve pedagogical and social competence.

Abstract

This classroom action research (CAR) aimed to: improve student’s activities and mathematics learning outcomes subject triangle and square for the student at class VII B of SMP Negeri 5 Surakarta through the implementation of the Make a Match cooperative learning model. This study used the method of CAR which was carried out during March until July 2018, and it was in the 2017/2018 academic year. The receptive subject of the study was the 29 students of VII B while the agent subject was the mathematics teacher. The data were collected by observation, test, and documentation. The data were then analyzed using the technique of comparative descriptive statistic and critical analysis. The result of CAR shows that the implementation of cooperative learning model type make a match can improve the student’s activities and student’s mathematics learning outcome. DOI: https://doi.org/10.30862/jhm.v1i2.1047

Abstract

The research aims to know student’s mathematics critical thinking ability at the inquiry learning process of P flat side geometry of cube and cuboid class VIII B SMP Negeri 1 Sentolo. This kind of research is qualitative research. The research subject was six students of class VIII B SMP Negeri 1 Sentolo, that consist of two students of high class, two students of the middle class, and two students of low class. The collected data was in the form of written and oral. The written data was obtained from the test, and the oral data was obtained from the interview. Mathematic critical thinking ability was measured based on Ennis’ indicator. The research result showed that after student followed the learning process with guided inquiry learning method, high-class students can build the entire indicator of mathematic critical thinking ability correctly and completely, middle-class students can built the entire indicator of mathematic critical thinking ability correctly but there were little problems at the indicator 1, 2, 3 and 4, whereas low-class students can build the entire indicator of mathematic critical thinking ability correctly but there were little problems at the indicator 2 and 3. Besides, they less in indicator 1 and 4.

Abstract

Students who have special needs also have the right to obtain an education as a provision for life, just like regular students. However, several learning tools for them are still very few. It is because some researchers always focus on standard students. Therefore, this study aims to develop visual-based mathematics teaching materials on integer arithmetic operations, one of which is deaf students. The development model used is a modified development model from the 4D model. Teaching materials that have been developed and tested on deaf class VIII students are suitable for use as a learning medium because they meet the criteria of being valid, practical, and effective. Valid because the average value of the three validators is 3.85. Furthermore, the practical standard is because the percentage of the average response score of students obtained is 80%. Finally, the effective criterion is that the average score of students trying to solve the test questions is 81. The results of this study contribute to providing alternative teaching materials for deaf students.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the activities, responses, and student learning outcomes with multilevel instruction learning. Multilevel instruction assignment learning strategy is a selling system adoption from multi-level marketing strategy with special characteristics that there are students in the first level and second level downlines and a teacher as an upline. Type of research is quasi-experimental by comparing two experimental groups. Experimental group one was given the STAD model with multilevel instruction, and the other group was given regular STAD model. The research instruments used were student activity observation sheets, student response questionnaires, and learning outcomes test. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. The result indicates that both of them are effective to be applied in mathematics learning, but inferentially the outcomes of the experiment group one were higher than the experiment group two.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of Guided Inquiry in understanding students' concepts in learning the Pythagorean theorem, through student worksheet-based guided inquiry learning models. This study uses descriptive qualitative research methods, which were carried out in class VIII D at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Gamping. Data collection techniques used were documentation, observation, and written tests. Data obtained in this study were analyzed using data triangulation techniques. The results showed that the Guided Inquiry had a role in helping students to understand the concept of the Pythagorean theorem formula, through several stages of learning. In learning that uses guided inquiry, students can understand the Pythagorean theorem formula by finding it on their own and being facilitated by the teacher. Also, student learning outcomes indicate that the average value obtained by students is above the Minimum Mastery Criteria score for mathematics subjects of 65.
