Abstract

The emergence of negative effects associated with conventional agriculture encourages a transition from conventional to modern agriculture. Hydroponic farming, which utilizes water as a growing medium, is one form of modern agriculture. This research aimed to find out the management of farming business governance of hydroponic greenhouse products in Greater Malang, which includes commodities marketed, marketing institutions involved, the form of marketing channels that occur, and marketing functions used by analyzing marketing margins and farmer's share and knowing the corporate system between traders of hydroponic greenhouse products in Greater Malang. This study analyzed the data using qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods. Moreover, this study utilized ten samples determined by purposive sampling with consideration the aim of this research is clear, namely to find out the marketing of hydroponics greenhouse products in Greater Malang. In addition, the sample for this study was selected using the snowball sampling method, which sampled the marketing channels of the previous ten samples. The results of this study indicate that the management of hydroponic greenhouse vegetables in Greater Malang begins with the most frequently traded product, in this case, lettuce. Participating marketing institutions included farmers, collecting traders, retailers, restaurant consumers, and end consumers. Level 1 marketing channel is the channel with the most consumers. The marketing functions used are the exchange function, the procurement function, and the facilitating function. Level 0 marketing channels have no marketing margin value because the price farmers receive is identical to that of consumers. Marketing channel level 0 for all commodities and marketing channel level 1 for all commodities are deemed efficient for the farmer's share. The cooperative system among hydroponic greenhouse vegetable sellers in Greater Malang is harmonious, contributing to a healthy market atmosphere.

Abstract

Population growth in Semarang City has an impact on the emergence of a food security issue and the high rate of unemployment. The Indonesian government issued a program named the Pekarangan Pangan Lestari or Sustainable Food Yard (SFY) that is expected to solve these problems through urban farming activities. However, the SFY is still experiencing many problems in the field that could threaten its sustainability. This study aims to analyze the sustainability status of the SFY program in Semarang City which consists of the Growth Stage and the Development Stage. The study is descriptive research with a survey method. The study was conducted on 130 sampling farmers in Semarang City that obtained the benefit of the program between 2020-2021. Sample determination used a proportional random sampling method. The data was collected by interview and analyzed using multidimensional scaling. Study results showed that the social, economic, and ecological dimensions of the Growth Stage are less sustainable than the Development Stage’s dimensions. The most sensitive attributes for the social dimension are farmer’s working hours and farmer’s independence. The most sensitive attributes for the economic dimension are product affordability and market demand. The most sensitive attributes for the ecological dimension are water availability and LEISA application. Improvement of sensitive attributes in those dimensions needs to be done to increase the sustainability status of all dimensions in the Growth Stage and the Development Stage of the SFY program in Semarang City.

Abstract

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, the pandemic has seriously impacted agriculture sectors. Coffee farmers are one of the groups significantly affected by this pandemic. In addition, agricultural extension, as one of the essential instruments in improving farmers' knowledge and skills, faces new challenges in providing services after the pandemic ends. This study examines the condition of agricultural extension after the Covid-19 pandemic in Malang Regency from the aspects of extension planning, extension materials, methods, media, and extension evaluation. The research was conducted in AMSTIRDAM sub-districts of Malang Regency. This research used a quantitative descriptive method. The research respondents were 97 coffee farmers randomly selected from 2622 coffee farmers. Primary data were obtained through observation, questionnaire distribution, and respondent interviews. Secondary data were obtained from the Agricultural Extension Office. The results showed that during the COVID-19 pandemic or the new normal era, agricultural extension officers continued to develop programs together with farmers even though it was done without face-to-face interaction (online). Agricultural extension workers also continue to facilitate the preparation of RDKK. During the COVID-19 pandemic, agricultural extension workers conveyed more information about capital. The extension method and media use an indirect approach and the use of social media. In addition, agricultural extension workers also continue to evaluate the impact of counseling during the pandemic. It can be concluded that agricultural extension workers continue to carry out extension activities for farmers even with various adjustments during the COVID-19 pandemic by implementing strict health protocols, including reducing face-to-face activities.

Abstract

The PTPN XI’s sugarcane supply in the last five years has tended to decline. A strong partnership between sugarcane farmers and PTPN XI can be an alternative solution to overcome the scarcity of the sugarcane supply by being shown high satisfaction and loyalty. The aims of this study are: 1) to compare the level of satisfaction of millennial and old sugarcane farmers to the performance of PTPN XI and 2) to compare the level of loyalty of millennial and old sugarcane farmers in partnership. The millennial and old sugarcane farmers' satisfaction levels are used to analyze CSI, gap analysis, Z-test, and IPA. The loyalty levels used average table analysis and Z-test. The study samples were obtained from four sugar mills areas of PTPN XI: Asembagoes, Soedhono, Wonolangan, and Pradjekan.  The results showed that the satisfaction level category of millennial farmers was quite satisfied (65.68%), while the satisfaction level of old sugarcane farmers was satisfied (67.04%). Statistically, the results of the Z-test showed a significance value of 0.021. There was a difference in the average satisfaction level between millennial and old sugarcane farmers, where the satisfaction level of sugarcane farmers was higher than millennials. However, the study found that the loyalty of old sugarcane farmers was more elevated than millennials using the Z-test with a significance value of 0.011. Through this study, it is expected that the partnership between PTPN XI and the sugarcane farmers is getting better quality to achieve increased sugar production.

Abstract

Dumai City is a significant economic hub in Riau Province and a vital location for food distribution. Although it's an urban area, there is still a small amount of rice produced in Dumai City. However, most of the rice supply comes from various suppliers outside the region to meet the high demand. Due to this diverse supply chain, this study aims to analyze the structure, mechanisms, and performance of the marketing in the premium rice supply chain at each level of the marketing institution. This research was conducted using a survey method among marketing actors at each level of marketing institutions selected purposively. To analyze the structure and mechanism of the rice supply chain, qualitative analysis is used. Quantitative analysis is used to analyze marketing performance in the rice supply chain. The research method used was a survey of rice marketing institutions in Dumai City, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative analysis methods. The results show that three marketing institutions are involved in marketing rice in Dumai City, each with a unique supply chain. Upon analyzing the marketing performance of the premium rice supply chain, it was found that all marketing channels utilized by wholesalers and retailers are efficient. Among these channels, channel 3, supplier-wholesaler-end consumer, has the smallest margin value, while channel 2, out-of-town distributor-traditional retailer-end consumer, has the highest profit-cost ratio value of 125.67. This marketing channel offers the lowest price for premium rice at the end consumer level, thereby ensuring greater access to food for the community and promoting urban food resilience. Among these channels, channel 2 of retailers that were out-of-town distributor-traditional retailer-end consumers had the best marketing efficiency value (0,09%) and the highest profit-cost ratio value of 125.67. Based on the results of this research, it is a challenge for the development of local rice agro-industry in creating efficient marketing performance to strengthen regional food security.

Abstract

Swamp agroecosystems are sub-optimal lands with distinctive characteristics, namely low fertility, and can only be planted once a year during the dry season. Small farmers whose primary income comes from the agricultural sector are becoming increasingly difficult due to climate-changing changes that can intimidate their household food security. This research aimed to analyze the factors that affect the food security of small farmer households in the swamp agroecosystem. The method used a survey of 247 farmers who run rice farming in swamp agroecosystems in the Ciamis Indonesia, which were determined randomly from a population of 648 farmers using the Slovin formula at an error rate of 5%. The research was analyzed by SEM (Structural Equation Models). The result showed that the factors impacting the food security of small farmer households in swamp agroecosystems came from farmer characteristics, income structure, and farm risk. Based on this, the development of small agro-industry in rural areas must be carried out to create household food security.

Abstract

Facing free trade, Indonesia is required to increase the performance of mango production in order to compete with mangoes from other countries, but the performance of gedong gincu mango agribusiness still faces a number of obstacles, both on farm and off farm. One of them is to optimize distribution costs by designing a transportation model to determine the amount of goods that must be sent from each source to each destination in such a way that the total transportation cost is minimum. The transportation model used is Vogel's Approximation Method. The purpose of this research was to find out the description of the distribution of gedong gincu mangoes in Majalengka District, the distribution costs incurred from source to destination and find out the optimization of distribution costs. The method used was quantitative with survey research techniques. The results of this research were an overview of the distribution of Gedong Gincu mangoes involving 5 parties, namely farmers, collectors, dealers, retailers and consumers which can be done with 4 marketing channels. The distribution costs incurred were different, on the four channels the lowest distribution costs are Rp 29,000 and the highest fee is Rp 74,000/kg. In channel I, it did not carry out cost optimization calculations because it did not make shipments out of town, for optimization in channel II it is Rp 13,950,000, channel III is Rp 249,100,000 and channel IV is Rp 250,980,000. Thus, it can be concluded that the lowest cost is on ordinary channel II. Further research is recommended to perform optimal testing by means of a stepping stone.
