Abstract

Educating literature is a literary genre that contains teachings, whether about behavior in society or teachings on how to reach perfection of life according to Javanese tradition. One of the literary texts of educating (piwulang) is Serat Wulang Reh Putri (SWRP) by Paku Buwana IX from Surakarta. The work contains educational values for women, especially for wifes. This teaching was imparted to women since childhood. The teachings in the text emphasize the importance of women to obey husbands. A wife according to SWRP must obey the command and prohibition of husband, respect and devoted to the husband also and must know the character of her husband. Therefore, married to a woman does not rely on physical beauty but kindness.

Abstract

The existence of language can be “tricked” by speakers in accordance with the purpose of the message content, so it would be created a form of “the language games” .On methods, the article writing is based on three stages: data collection, classification and data analysis, and writing stages. The purpose of writing is the search for answering to “What is “the language games” and “Who is “a language creator”. Based on the fact that communication with the form of “the language games” parallel to common communication, because both are strategic and functional. Thus, the existence of the form of “the language games” are interesting studied depthly, because its regarded as a linguistic phenomenon of its own.

Abstract

Linguistic anthropology or ethnolinguistics is a branch of anthropology with language in use or speech as it’s object of study. In another way it is the study of a language as a cultural resource and speaking as a cultural practice. This science with such a definition can be traced back to the Sapir and Whorf hypothesis, concerning with theory of linguistic relativity and theory of linguistic determinism. It is a matter of conceptual world based on perception or more specific a representation of reality (real world). Linguistic anthropology with such a focus  of study no need to be done only in primitive society but in modern society as well and in internal language since there are many sub-societies in a language society. The method in this study is what is called thick description that must be carried out using grounded research. The issues and topics that are at the core of this research such as  the politics of representation, the legitimation of power, the cultural basis of racism and ethnic conflict, the relationship between ritual performance and the forms of social control, speech in ceremonies, ritual, meeting, and so on.
