Abstract

Regional culture is one of the things that become assets and is also used as an aspect of the identity of a community group that shows a form of manifestation of intellectual community. Art is one of the elements of culture that is the embodiment of the tastes of the nation's people related to beauty aspects or aesthetics. The city of Jepara is one of the cities in Central Java which is known to the world community as the City of Carving. Jepara’s carving art has developed over the centuries and this has positive impacts on the variety of creative designs and the quality of the sculptures. Jepara’s sculpture called "Macan Kurung" is one of the various types of carvings that are known by the wider community. The carving of the Macan Kurung statue has several elements that all create a coherent beauty. Macan Kurung can be studied through an aesthetic view and its meanings which are then analyzed for their relevance to the values of life in the present. The carving of the statue is not only used as an ornamental object that contains the values of life but can also be used as a source of income for the sculptor. Considering the production process of the sculpture has several complex stages and the carving technique is quite difficult and the quality is high, so it should be of added value for this sculpture carved product. With this added value, it is hoped that it will be able to improve the economy of the sculptor, which then becomes a separate motivation for the people of Jepara to develop their Carving Art. Although there is such great potential, on the other hand there are obstacles because the carving technique is quite difficult makes the regeneration of carving skills quite hampered. Coupled with the declining interest of the younger generation of Jepara in learning carving skills, this has an impact on the existence of the Art of Carving itself as the identity of the people of the Jepara city area.

Abstract

The creation of the final guest table work with the creation of the characteristics of this pumice stone was motivated to create a new variant for developing this type of guest table. The work created consists of three pieces using tamarind wood, gypsum, and resin. The creation methodology uses the theory SP. Gustami includes the stages: exploration, design, and realization. The aesthetic approach to the work refers to Monroe Beardsley's theory in Problems in the Philosophy of Criticism which explains 3 characteristics, unity, complexity, and intensity. The process of working on the work uses carpentry techniques (bench work), chiseling techniques (carving), drilling techniques using a mini grinder, and dot techniques using nails. The finishing of the table is done by applying a brush technique using chemicals, candy-tone paint, coating, and resin to produce attractive wood effects and colors. The final results of the guest table works are three pieces, one of which uses tamarind wood, and two works use a combination of tamarind wood and gypsum. This creation is oriented towards developing coffee table designs, to create products that have a novelty value and keep abreast of market developments.

Abstract

The unique life cycle of a butterfly is known as a perfect metamorphosis, seen through the aesthetic aspect of the transformation of shape into a butterfly, so that this insect is often used as a symbol of perfection by some people. The concept of metamorphosis is quite relevant to keris culture, considering that the development of contemporary keris culture leads to art objects that put forward the value of meaning and symbols. The purpose of the creation of this work is to realize the shape of the dhapur keris by visualizing the aesthetics of the life cycle of the butterfly (caterpillar and butterfly) as a symbol and hope. The creation of this final project uses a three-stage method, namely: the exploration stage, the design stage, and the embodiment stage. As for the analysis of the work produced with an aesthetic approach from the concept of thought of Haryono Haryoguritno, namely the external criteria consisting of: aspects of garap, iron, pamor, steel (waja), and wangun. The resulting works are two kris works, namely the dhapur wyalangga keris and the dhapur butterfly keris which refer to the shape of the Javanese kris, and each work contains a philosophical meaning about the cycle of life.
