Abstract

We report 69 fish species in 34 teleost families nearly all collected during a preliminary survey of the Sungai Pohara and coastal localities in Sulawesi Tenggara, including Muna Island, in June 2010. Of these species, nine are introduced or exotic and another is questionably native. The family Gobiidae is the most diverse taxon, represented by 14 native species. Atherinomorph fishes of the family Adrianichthyidae are represented in the province by four endemic species and two others that are widespread, all in the genus Oryzias. This fish fauna contrasts sharply with the riverine ichthyo-fauna of the adjacent Sulawesi Tenggara islands of Buton and Kabaena in which there are reportedly no ricefishes and few endemics. New species are being described by the field team and collaborators. Our ultimate goal is to discover, describe, highlight, understand and encourage the conservation of the native freshwater and coastal fish biota of Sulawesi. Abstrak Kami melaporkan hasil survei pendahuluan di Sungai Pohara dan perairan pantai di Sulawesi Tenggara, termasuk Pulau Muna. Tujuan utama kami adalah menemukan, mendeskripsikan, menggarisbawahi, memahami, dan menggiatkan upaya konservasi biota ikan air tawar dan pesisir asli Sulawesi. Survei yang dilakukan pada bulan Juni 2010 berhasil mendapatkan 69 spesies dari 34 famili Teleostei. Sembilan spesies di antaranya merupakan ikan introduksi atau bersifat eksotik dan satu spesies masih diragukan, asli setempat atau bukan. Gobiidae merupakan famili yang paling beragam, terwakili oleh 14 spesies asli. Ikan Atherinomorph dari famili Adrianichthyidae terwakili oleh empat spesies endemik di provinsi ini dan dua spesies lain yang penyebarannya sangat luas. Keenam spesies tersebut termasuk dalam genus Oryzias. Keragaman jenis fauna ikan ini sangat berbeda dengan jenis-jenis ikan sungai di dua pulau terdekat di wilayah Sulawesi Tenggara, yaitu Buton dan Kabaena. Di dua pulau tersebut tidak ditemukan ikan padi (Oryzias, ricefishes) dan hanya sedikit spesies endemik. Beberapa spesies baru dideskripsikan oleh tim lapangan dan para kolaborator.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe habitat condition of endemic arfak rainbowfish, Melanotaenia arfakensis at Sungai Nimbai on June-July and September-October 2012. The study site consisted of seven sampling stations for organisms and environmental qualities, from upstream to downstream segment, and each of these stations divided into two habitat types, ie. slow littoral and run areas. The parameters of habitat quality were measured and analysed such as current water, temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, grease and oil concentration, riparian vegetation, macroinvertebrates composition and abundance, also fish composition and distribution. Riparian vegetation sampling was done at stream sides using 4 m2 plot for seedling and 400 m2 for sapling, pole, and tree categories. Macroinvertebrate and fish at two habitat types were collected using surber of 0.0625 m2 and hand net. The result showed that arfak rainbow-fish were only found at upstream segment. The presence of the species was related to physical and chemical parameters condition that supporting their life, also related to the availability of spawning and nursering habitat for larvae, and the aquatic insects as their food. The absence of the fish at downstream segment, maybe due to the degradation of their habitat condition that related to decreasing riparian vegetation coverage and organic waste flow to stream system, and also the presence of alien fish. The study showed decreasing of the quality and suitable habitat areal for this endemic species decrease, therefore it is need to conserve the natural habitat as the effort to maintain the sustainability of this species populations. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kondisi habitat ikan pelangi arfak, Melanotaenia arfakensis yang endemik di Sungai Nimbai pada bulan Juni-Juli dan September-Oktober 2012. Pada lokasi ini ditetapkan tujuh stasiun pengambilan contoh organisme dan parameter lingkungan dari segmen di bagian hulu sampai ke arah hilir masing-masing dengan dua tipe habitat, yaitu tepi sungai beraliran lambat dan daerah beraliran deras. Parameter kualitas habitat yang diukur meliputi kecepatan aliran air, suhu air, gas oksigen terlarut, pH, konsentrasi minyak dan lemak, kondisi vegetasi riparian, kom-posisi dan kepadatan makroavertebrata air, serta komposisi dan penyebaran spesies ikan. Pengumpulan contoh vegetasi riparian tepi sungai menggunakan petak contoh berukuran 4 m2 untuk tingkat semai dan 400 m2 untuk tingkat pancang, tiang, dan pohon. Pengumpulan contoh makroavertebrata dan ikan kedua tipe habitat menggunakan surber berukuran 0,0625 m2 dan hand net. Hasil penelitian ini memperlihatkan ikan pelangi arfak hanya ditemukan pada segmen sungai di bagian hu-lu. Keberadaan spesies ini berkaitan dengan kondisi parameter fisik-kimiawi perairan yang mendukung kehidupan-nya, tersedianya habitat pemijahan dan perlindungan bagi larva, dan tersedianya makanan berupa insekta air. Keti-dak hadiran ikan ini pada segmen sungai di bagian ke arah hilir disebabkan oleh menurunnya kualitas habitat yang berkaitan dengan berkurangnya tutupan vegetasi riparian dan masuknya limbah organik ke dalam sistem sungai, serta kebera-daan ikan asing. Hasil ini memperlihatkan terjadinya penurunan kualitas dan luasan habitat yang layak bagi spesies ikan ende-mik ini. Oleh karena itu perlu adanya upaya pelestariannya melalui konservasi habitat alami agar populasinya tetap lestari.

Abstract

The aims of this study are to examine the changes in biometric variables of nile tilapia caused by mercury exposure. The study was conducted from February to June 2013. Test fish were exposed to 0 mg L-1, 0.164 mg L-1, and 0.196 mg L-1 mercury chloride for 56 days. Analysis was done for the survival rate, growth rate, hepatosomatic index, the relative bile volume, gonadal somatic index, fecundity, and oocyte diameter. The median lethal concentration (96 hrs, LC50) of mercury chloride was calculated as 1.64 mg L-1. The survival rate was highest in the control treatment (46.67%). Mercury chloride with concentration 0.196 mg L-1 shows significant effect to changes HSI and relative bile volume, and oocyte diameter of Nile tilapia (p<0.05). Mercury chloride with a concentration of 0.164 mg L-1and 0.196 mg L-1 have not a significant effect on the growth rate of weight, gonadal somatic index, and fecundity of nile tilapia (p>0.05). AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji perubahan beberapa variabel biometrik ikan nila akibat dari paparan merkuri. Penelitian dilakukan dari bulan Februari hingga Juni 2013. Ikan nila berukuran panjang 11-13 cm dengan bobot rata-rata 20 gram dipaparkan pada tiga konsentrasi merkuri klorida (0 mg L-1; 0,164 mg L-1; dan 0,196 mg L-1) selama 56 hari. Analisis dilakukan terhadap tingkat kelangsungan hidup, laju pertumbuhan bobot, indeks hepatosomatik (HSI), volume empedu relatif, indeks kematangan gonad, fekunditas dan diameter telur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai LC50-96 jam merkuri klorida adalah sebesar 1,64 mg L-1. Tingkat kelangsungan hidup tertinggi terdapat pada perlakuan 0 mg L-1 (46,67%) dan terendah pada perlakuan 0,196 mg L-1 (40,00%). Merkuri klorida dengan konsentrasi 0,196 mg L"1 memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap perubahan HSI dan volume empedu relatif serta ukuran diameter telur ikan nila (p<0,05). Namun pada konsentrasi 0,164 mg L-1dan 0,196 mg L-1 merkuri klorida tidak ber-pengaruh nyata terhadap laju pertumbuhan bobot, indeks kematangan gonad (IKG) dan fekunditas ikan nila (p>0,05).

Abstract

This study was carried out from August 2012 to January 2013 in Youtefa Bay, Jayapura, Papua. Study aimed to analyze the species composition and fish communities structure in seagrass ecosystems. Fish sampling was conducted by using gill nets and beach seine experiments with swept method. Fishes were caught once in each month during research period, and conducted on day and night time. The result showed of 676 individuals in 79 fish species of 36 families. Scolopsis lineata (14.64%), Apogon ceramensis (9.76%), Parupeneus barberinus (6.80%), Aeliscus strigatus (6.36%), Siganus fuscescens (4.89%), and Siganus canaliculatus (4.29%) were species that found dominantly in all locations during observation time. The number of fish in each site was affected by the percentage of seagrass beds coverage, the higher percentage of seagrass coverage the higher number of fish found. Higher diversity index found in August, October, and January, the ranged between 3.09 and 4.29; while on September, November and December had lower diversity index, the ranged between 2.09-3.05. Transparency, dissolved oxygen, percentage of coverage, pH, temperature, and nitrate were variables that positively correlated to fish abundance. Abstrak Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Agustus 2012 sampai Januari 2013 di Teluk Youtefa Jayapura Papua, bertujuan untuk menganalisis komposisi spesies dan struktur komunitas ikan pada ekosistem lamun. Ikan dikoleksi menggunakan jaring insang dan jaring pantai eksperimental dengan metode penyapuan. Pengamatan dilakukan satu kali setiap bulan selama enam bulan dan dilakukan penangkapan pada siang dan malam hari. Penelitian ini berhasil mengumpulkan 676 individu meliputi 79 spesies dari 36 famili. Jenis Scolopsis lineata (14,64%), Apogon ceramensis (9,76%), Parupeneus barberinus (6,80%), Aeliscus strigatus (6,36%), Siganus fuscescens (4,89%) dan Siganus canaliculatus (4,29%) dite-mukan pada semua lokasi dan waktu pengamatan. Jumlah individu ikan di masing-masing lokasi dipengaruhi oleh nilai persentase tutupan lamun, di mana semakin tinggi nilai persentase tutupan lamun ditemukan jumlah individu yang ting-gi. Indeks keanekaragaman (H’) pada bulan Agustus, Oktober dan Januari yaitu (3,09-4,29) lebih tinggi daripada bulan September, November, dan Desember (2,09-3,05). Variabel kecerahan, oksigen terlarut, persentase tutupan, pH, suhu, dan nitrat berkorelasi positif dengan kelimpahan ikan.

Abstract

A study was conducted to describe spatio-temporal variation of fish assemblages in Segara Menyan estuary, Jawa Barat from January to December 2011. Fish specimens were collected with three fishing gears (gill net, trammel net, and trawl) from three zones namely stream, coastal lagoon, and marine zone. Fish assemblage measures were density, species richness, and fish diversity; whereas aquatic environmental variable were temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, and water clarity. Results showed a significant difference in the temperature, salinity, and water clarity. Density, species richness, and fish diversity showed important variations both in time and space (zone). Multiple linear regression analysis revealed inconsistent patterns in terms of the relationships between univariate fish assemblage measures and aquatic environmental variables. Abstrak Penelitian yang berlangsung dari Januari hingga Desember 2011 bertujuan untuk menjelaskan variasi spasio-temporal sebaran kumpulan ikan di estuari Segara Menyan, Jawa Barat. Pengambilan ikan contoh dilakukan pada tiga zona yaitu sungai, pantai, dan laut dengan menggunakan tiga alat tangkap yaitu jaring rampus, jaring berlapis, dan jaring arad. Variabel pengukuran ikan meliputi densitas, kekayaan spesies, dan diversitas ikan; sedangkan variabel lingkungan meliputi suhu, salinitas, oksigen terlarut, dan kecerahan perairan. Pada penelitian ini diperoleh hasil bahwa suhu, salinitas, dan kecerahan berbeda nyata menurut zona dan waktu. Sementara variasi spasio-temporal ikan terlihat jelas pada den-sitas, kekayaan spesies, dan diversitasnya. Analisis regresi linear berganda memperlihatkan ketiadaan konsistensi pada pola hubungan antara variabel pengukuran ikan dengan variabel lingkungan.
