Abstract

The National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (National Library of Indonesia) publishes the Indonesian National Bibliography (BNI), which functions as a national bibliographic control. The bibliographic control is carried out by librarians at the provincial, district, and city levels. Therefore, understanding librarians are needed as an evaluation of BNI. Data collection through a literature review and a survey with two types of questions that consist of 30 multiple choices used to see the understanding of librarians, and 9 (nine) declarative survey questions by answering ‘yes’ and ‘no’ used to determine the situation of the library where respondents work with the use of BNI. From 64 respondents, the results of this study indicate that librarians’ understanding of BNI is fairly low with questions that can be answered by respondents ranging from 20%-78%, also 14 of 64 respondents get a range of values of 66% -80%. The findings also did not indicate the relationship between the librarians’ understanding of BNI and respondent demographics such as level of education, length of working in the library, and long working in the current unit.

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the research trend of publications of Indonesia’s tectonic settings, which consist of the growth of publication numbers, the main research topics (including the used research methods and the most researched geographic area), the growth of the research topics, the source of publications, the institutional and country affiliations, and the collaboration between national and international researchers. A bibliometric method was used to analyze publications indexed by Scopus database from 2001 to 2020. VosViewer software was used to visualize the keyword map and to find the main research topics, the methods and the geography of the research. The growth of the research topics was analyzed manually through a content analysis and classification into the main research topics. The publication sources, the affiliations and the collaborations were analyzed statistic-descriptively. The result shows that there is an increase on the number of Indonesia’s tectonic settings publications within the last decade. There are four main research topics: (1) tectonic structure on subduction or fault zone in relation to seismic activities or tectonic slips (method: tomography and GPS; locus: Sumatera and Central Java); (2) physical processes beneath the magma plumbing systems and magma evolution (magma differentiation) (method: geochemistry, petrology, isotopic ratio, petrography analysis; locus: Java (East and Central Java, especially Mount Merapi); (3) tectonic structure evolution caused by arc-continent collision (method: stratigraphy, biostratigraphy, geochronology analysis; locus: Banda arc, Lesser Sunda Islands and Sulawesi); (4) magmatic processes or sedimentology in relation to crustal of the subduction zone (method: isotopic composition dan igneous geochemistry analysis; locus: West Java). Most publications are published on Geophysical Journal International, but Gondwana Research shows a higher citation score. Bandung Institute of Technology is the most productive institution, while Indonesia is the most productive publication country followed by the UK and Australia. Most publications are resulted from collaborations of national and international researchers, however the number of national researchers as the first writer is relatively low (22%).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the perceptions of the heads of work units and LIPI researchers about the existence and sustainability of libraries in the LIPI Puspiptek Serpong. The study uses descriptive qualitative methods with interview techniques. More in-depth information was collected from the participants, namely the heads of work units and researchers related to the sustainability of the library in the LIPI Puspiptek Serpong. Based on the results and discussions, it was concluded that the library in the LIPI Puspiptek Serpong is still needed both in conventional and digital form because of its function as a repository of knowledge and information sources. As well as its benefits for the community as a place to get information and for researchers to support their research. The library is still needed because as a place to store a collection of books of historical value, management for tacit knowledge (knowledge about research operations) that is not transferred into the finished form such as: books, theses, papers, and as a place of learning for the public. The hope for the LIPI Serpong Library is the realization of an integrated library, where the collections in each work unit are collected into a strategic location. LIPI Serpong library must be able to provide comfort for users.

Abstract

Research data management will become a new service trend for libraries and new jobs for librarians. Libraries and librarians need to prepare their organizational resources to support the library-data services. Various challenges and efforts need to be prepared from an early age so that research data management in the library can be carried out properly. This study discusses the management of research data in libraries, the challenges and efforts of librarians in managing institutional research data. The research objectives are to determine: (1) library institutions that have carried out research data management and services; (2) challenges and efforts of librarians in managing institutional research data. This research uses a qualitative approach. The research data comes from literature studies, especially scientific journal articles (national and international). Data analysis was carried out descriptively with the stages, are planning, conducting, and reporting. Based on this method, the results of the study indicate that: (1) research data management has been carried out in various libraries in Indonesia, and in its application it can adopt the concept of data libraries at the University of Toronto Map and Digital Library (UTMDL) Canada; (2) In managing institutional research data, librarians will face various problems and challenges, both in terms of policy implementation and increasing competence in research data management.

Abstract

Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) has been designated as a pandemic by WHO because of its spread to various countries at the same time. The library did not slip the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic discourse because must be closed as an effort made jointly to break the chain of COVID-19 spread. Through the literature study, especially from scientific journals, the author tries to collect various information related to the closure of library services due to the crisis, in order to find out things that can be done by the library in the midst of a pandemic COVID-19. The study results show that during the COVID-19 pandemic libraries must determine policy related services such as open or not and exemption from fines. It is relevant to consider the disinfectant action against the building and the collection as a whole. The library must be a trusted information center as an effort to slow the spread of viruses and misinformation. Libraries should also provide sources of information that can be accessed by users through electronic resources. Libraries and librarians during the pandemic can be involved as a COVID-19 task force specifically the library building can be used as a logistics warehouse for the distribution of masks, test kits, and personal protective equipment (PPE). Finally, libraries can hold useful programs for users through the concept of "boutique" services and webinars. The results of the study can be used as a guide and lesson learned in the future to be applied by libraries and librarians in times of crisis.
