Abstract

The values of life are inherent on arts, likewise on Wayang. Characters of Wayang seem to have human characteristics. One of them is the character of Kumbakarna in the play of Kumbakarna Gugur that will be analysed with narrative analysis method. Kumbakarna is considered as an evil character but he is willing to sacrifi ce himself to defend his kingdom not to rescue his brother, Rahwana. The character of Kumbakarna is ambivalent when on one side he fi ghts for his brother to get Shinta, but on the other side he realizes that what he does is an evil deed. He knows that Rahwana does not have his right to have Shinta. However, Rahwana’s happiness is in confl ict with Shinta’s suff ering.Keywords: Wayang, Kumbakarna Gugur, ambivalence, narrative analysis

Abstract

Nowadays, in the field of art, talking about (art) collage is more than just a technical ma" er to attach various other elements - beyond the conventions of painting - on a piece of canvas. It is more than the project that Picasso and Braque have been started in the exploration of experimental cubism to havethe new visual images. Collage today is not merely an expression of rebellion as Kurt Schwi"ers, Raul Hausmann or Hannah Hoch did in the spirit of anti-art that developed in Dada. Nowadays, Collage even transcends the iconic composition prowess ad world of Richard Hamilton or Eduardo Paollozi in pop-art. Thus, Collage in the art map inside postmodern era could be some sort of perspective, a way of thinking and looking, spirit, or footing (“blue-print”)/concept, even the idea of itself. Collage is probably a vast stretch of landscape civilization that celebrates itself among history, knowledge, technology, gaming, market, hospital, war, television and popular culture fanfare. Collage today are the images that were lined-piled around us as a reality that is layered, that seemed real and visible in everyday life - and we’re in it as an inevitable part of the composition of the layers inside collage umpteenth great life.Keywords: art, collage, popular culture, postmodern

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif, dengan menggunakan landasan teori Antropologi Tari  karya Anya Peterson Royce. Penelitian  Tari Topeng Klana Sumedang karya R. Ono Lesmana Kartadikoesoemah membahas tentang strurtur dan bentuk gerak, yakni penganalisaan meliputi ragam gerak, rias busana, dan iringan tarinya, yang merupakan pengaruh dan perkembangan dari gaya tarin yang konon bersasal dari Tari Wayang Gaya Sumedang dan Topeng Cirebon.   Berdasarkan  latar belakang,  metoda penelitian dan landasan teori yang digunakan,      Tema struktur  gerak  melarap  hanya ditemukan pada Tari Topeng Klana Sumedang yang berkaitan dengan kreativitas seniman. Pada sisi lain gerakan- gerakan  tari dilakukan secara spontan, yakni pada salah satu bagian  “ucapan  selamat datang” dan ungkapan tentang “nasehat nasehat kehidupan” yang disampaikan oleh Dalang dalam mendukung tema gagasan yang dilakukan penari pada pertunjukan Tari Topeng Klana Sumedang tersebut. Tari  Topeng Klana Karya R. Ono Kartadikoesoemah adalah perkembangan dari Tari Wayang gaya Sumedan dan Topeng Cirebon. Kata kunci :  Seniman tari, struktur gerak, gaya topeng klana sumedang

Abstract

In spite of its rapid modernization, South Korea is still having problems with gender issues in its socio-cultural life. The paper is aimed to reveal the reality of gender ideology in South Korea through a K-drama entitled “Because This Is My First Life”. It tells about the life of metropolis urban society. A drama or soap opera is the representation of reality in a life. The paper is a qualitative study applying discourse analysis to uncover the gender ideology in the story of the flm. The result showsthat the characters created in the story of the flm are submissive to the patriarchy values among the modernity of South Korea.Keywords : Representation, Gender ideology, Patriarchy, South Korea, K-drama

Abstract

Kuda Renggong is an art growing and developing from Sumedang regency which has function as ritual means of circumsicion, gusaran, and welcoming guests. Nowadays, the functions also develop as entertainment in the context of circumsicion party, welcoming guests, birthday, and festival. The performance of Kuda Renggong contains the elements of music, dance, and costumes. This study is about the changing of the community and the culture toward the tradition of Kuda Renggong arts in North Sumedang. Diachronically, the analysis is based on the interviews to the players/performers of Kuda Renggong from the youngest to the oldest, penanggap (the host inviting or paying for the performance), the community fgure, and the spectators. The changes are shown on the musical instruments, costumes, the dancers atraction, and the technology. Besides, it is now also supported by the city community. In other words, Kuda Renggong is in?uential to the changing of the culture and the people.Keywords: development, function, society, Kuda Renggong

Abstract

The film production is entitled Sihung, a Sundanese word meaning in Indonesian siung, taring, caling (canine tooth, tusk). The term Sihung implies the violence in a pig fight, a folk game spreading in the culture of West Java people. The life of Ilma Nurjanah is represented through documentary film with direct cinema approach, a style whose approach focuses that the film maker and his camera will be accepted as part of the subject’s life. In fact, in certain cases the existence of the film maker and his camera is not realized anymore by the subject and her family. Abstract

Chiang Yu Tie is a female painter recognized with her Chinese painting technique. Few Chinese women are recorded in Indonesia fine art history. Chiang Yu Tie had qualified track record of exhibitionin 1900s.However, her name was not recognizable yet in national fine art. The aim of this research is to equip infrastructure of social fine art area in Indonesia relating to the visualization of Chinese female art works. This research uses qualitative method and case study. This research shows that the local genius of Chiang Yu Tie work can be appreciated through figure of the dancer and panorama collaborated with Chinese traditional painting style. The composition made by Chiang Yu Tieis convergence. This composition is used to state that the object is important. The colors highlighted in her painting are the natural colors such as light green, light brown, light blue, with black outlineas the confi rmation of the highlighted object. Abstract

The paper aims to analyze several works produced by “Sembilan Matahari” in applying visual elements of Angklung represented on video mapping in the certain performance either in domestic or foreign countries. The study is conducted trough preliminary, literature, and the analysis of the works performed. The data obtained are analyzed by using Richard E. Palmer’s hermeneutic. The study tries to interpret and signify the signs in the video mapping performance. The result shows that video mapping is one of new media arts which has its own atractiveness to the audience. It is quite potential as alternatif media for promoting the culture heritage in each of the works produced.Keywords: Angklung, Interpretasi, Video mapping

Abstract

The polemic on the ceramic is a form of the artists’ explorations as their personal expression media. Generally, ceramic tends to be part of an applied art. The anxiety is related to the view that ceramic is a usable thing. F Widayanto popularizes the ceramic art to the world of fne art exhibition. His artwork has distinctive characteristic on the tradition with detail curve and the coloring glaze which tends to be eye-fascinating. The visualization on his works is beyond the function rules tied to ceramic.This study is aimed at in-depth analysis on the visualization of F. Widayanto’s ceramic artworks. The method applied is qualitative by using Clive Bell aesthetic approach, in which started by datacollection and then analysis of F. Widayanto’s ceramic artworks. Abstract

Video clip is one of symbolic media functioning to deliver information to public. The research focuses on analysing the audio visual of Sambasunda’s video clip Tongtolang. The research aims to uncover the discursive and presentational symbol of Sambasunda’s video clip Tongtolang. The research applies Susanne K. Langer’s symbolic approach that is discursive and presentational. Discursive symbol is analyzed through music, lyric, and the visual of Sambasunda’s video clip Tongtolang. The presentational symbol is analyzed through the whole discursive symbols in the video clip. The result of the analysis shows that discursive and presentational symbol of Sambasunda’s video clip Tongtolang is a paradox expression of the Tongtolang lyric. When the character Bapa in the video clip practices or falls down to the polygamy, he actually goes up because of geting the girl he wants. The man falls to the above, meaning that he denies the truth he has been holding. He tries to fnd ‘the way to the above’.
