Abstract

This paper aims to find out how the process and the steps taken by Indonesian students studying in China to overcome culture shock during their study in China. This research seeks to provide answers to cultural shock events that arise from a process of cross-cultural communication. The data were obtained by conducting an in-depth interview process and then processed optimally using the Speech Codes Theory (SCT) initiated by Gerry Philipsen. This study shows that Indonesian students tend to cope with cultural shock events from cross-cultural communication processes when mingling with other community members.

Abstract

This study aims to know the effect of watching the Indonesia Lawyers Club political episode program against the image of Islamic-based political parties among the Muhammadiyah Students Association of UIN Sunan Kalijaga ahead of the 2019 Presidential Election. Theories used are Cultivation Theory, television watch intensity, political parties' image, and Islamic based political parties. Validity test uses criteria validity calculated using the Pearson Product Moment formula, while the reliability test uses the Alpha Cronbach formula with the help of SPSS version 15. The type of analysis of this research is quantitative descriptive research with survey methods and data analysis using inferential parametric statistical methods, namely, the Pearson Product analyses Moment with the help of SPSS version 15. Meanwhile, to find out the magnitude of the effect of watching television using the formula Coefficient of Determination. Data collection techniques using questionnaires, interviews, literature studies, and documentation with sampling techniques using random sampling, as many as 62 respondents. From the data processing, it was found that there was an influence between watching the Indonesian Lawyers Club program on political episodes on the image of Islamic-based political parties among the Muhamadiyah Students Association UIN Sunan Kalijaga before the 2019 presidential election. Other variables also influence the formation of the image of political parties. This study uses DK = 60 (N-2 or 62-2) and the level of probability or significance level of 0.05 (5%), then the table is 0.250, and from the calculation, the recount is 0.550. Thus, since counted tables, Ho is rejected, and Ha is accepted.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an overview of language and conflict resolution to achieve communication harmony. Certain types of description was used to obtain the data more apparently because of related to phenomena and analysis of cases in the community. The conclusions of this study are communication harmony consists of language and communication. Communication becomes very important in giving a touch of the peace symbol. Communities must join together, deliberately creating collective space, starting with oneself, family, and the lowest social level. Although the harmony of communication has not yet materialized, we need to give the maximum extra gratitude for the language of peace from ourselves to the highest level.

Abstract

The paper aims to examine one of the transgender celebrities based on their YouTube videos. The method of this research was using content analysis. This method examines the video theme, transgender-specific issues, physical changing of Indonesia transgender celebrities Stasya Bwarlele’s YouTube channel during 2018-2020 with a total of 78 YouTube videos. These current studies identify that from all of 78 YouTube videos of Stasya Bwarlele’s, video themes of no trans or beauty/make-up/shopping such as daily vlog are mentioned 34 times (44%). Meanwhile, based on trans specific issues, dating themes are mentioned 19 times (28%), such as in relationship vlog. This frequency has the same value as terminology variables, which is 19 times (28%). Meanwhile, to express her gender identity as transgender, she could be seen in physical transition mentions such as surgery, which is mentioned ten times (50%). According to those variables, Stasya Bwarlele has shown that her videos indicate that she has the same videos as other YouTubers who mostly discussed daily vlog and dating. Based on the data, it has indicated that YouTube is being used by Stasya to express her daily activity (no trans or beauty/make up/shopping) as trans people, the same as a cisgender people do for traveling, cooking, shooting and modeling.

Abstract

This paper aims to describe how humans communicate with each other is always influenced or in a complex cultural context. Humans learn to think, feel, believe, and work on what is culturally appropriate. Language, friendship, eating habits, communication practices, social actions, economic and political activities, and technology are based on cultural patterns. This paper is the result of library research, where the author conducts academic studies of various relevant reading material. The conclusion in this paper is What people do, how they act, how they live and communicate, are responses to and functions of their culture.

This research is library research; the author seeks various reading materials that support the acquisition of data. The reading article is a book and research results published in libraries and online. This study shows that in history, selfies do not only talk about narcissism but have a strong cultural philosophy.
