Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries with a fairly large number of K-pop fans, which is also supported by a significant number of social media users. These two aspects create a phenomenon that is popular among fans who are active on social media, named roleplayers. Roleplayer is a term that refers to K-pop fans who create a fictional figure through a new identity on social media and live their lives and roles through such identity while keeping their true identity a secret. This article focuses on the virtual communication method that roleplayer has improved from K-pop fans. This study was conducted between March and July 2022, involving 18 informants who were interviewed through Zoom Meeting and Goggle Meet. Virtual participant observation was also carried through Twitter as one of the most dynamic and crowd social media with the researcher being a roleplayer and observing the uploads of roleplayer accounts and being directly involved in their communication. The roleplay performed by K-pop fans on social media Twitter is a fictional figure with a new identity called a roleplayer. Roleplayers live a double life with different identities, one as a roleplayer who "lives" in a virtual space and the other is a real self who lives in an actual space. Their lives in the actual world with real identities are called real life, while the roleplayer world is a "space" where they "live" with a fictional identity. Roleplayer identity and real identity must be strictly separated so that life in the roleplayer world and real life do not intersect with each other. In an effort to develop identity, roleplayers create story lines, namely a series of essays of events/stories made by roleplayers, so that it is as if the essay is a "journey of life" for them. In addition, roleplayers also establish relationships with other roleplayers, both personally and in groups. Communication is needed in carrying out these relationships. However, because the existence of roleplayers only revolves around Twitter and closes themselves to direct interaction, their method of communication is limited to text by utilizing Twitter features. However, roleplayers strive to be able to communicate as much as possible by improvising their communication methods through the use of special terms and abbreviations, imagining through text, and visualizing the text through images or videos. Basically, all identities attached to roleplayers are just fantasy or fictitious being transferred to a virtual space. But all the affection felt by the roleplayers is real, especially when a roleplayer is in a relationship with other roleplayer. Therefore, the fantasy that exists in the relationship becomes a "common property" fantasy that is connected to each other.

Abstract

The pandemic Covid-19, which has spread throughout the world including Indonesia, has had a major impact on various aspects of life, including in the field of education. While the existing literatures are more related to stigma on people infected with Covid-19 and on the health workers who care for them, this article is deals with stigma against 2020 high school graduates and those who enrolled college in the same year, and they are labeled "angkatan korona". Using this qualitative approach, this study was carried out through social media, such as Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Data was collected using in-depth interview and observation methods. While interviews were conducted using Whatsapp, Instagram, Twitter application, then the observation was carried out using the Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter applications by observing posts related to the "angkatan korona". Those who participated in this study were 11 people, consisting of three boys and eight girls; who’s aged between 18 and 20 years and came from five different universities. The results of this study indicate that the "angkatan korona" is a stigma aimed at 2020 high school graduates. Stigma against the “angkatan korona” not only happened in cyberspace, but also in the real world. While stigma in cyberspace is carried out through postings on social media, then stigma in the real world is carried out directly. This stigma is caused by the abolition of the National Examination (Ujian Nasional) and graduation celebrations, the online learning system and communication among students only through social media (online friendships). It is argued in this article that government policies during the Covid-19 pandemic have created stigma against people who have been impacted on these policies.

Abstract

The graduation ceremony from year to year has not changed much and remains a solemn ceremonial activity that can bring its own euphoria to graduation participants, parents, and other attendees. However, since the Covid-19 pandemic at the beginning of 2020 various changes have occurred, including in the field of education, and one of them is related to the graduation ceremony. In Indonesia, many universities delay graduation, but not a few continue to do it online. This article will discuss online graduation as a substitute for face-to-face graduation due to the current epidemic of Covid-19, so that let alone crowds, physical distance is limited. This study was conducted at Hasanuddin University as one of the universities in Indonesia that carries out online graduation. The study focused on the implementation of the second online graduation, that is, the first period of 2020/2021, conducted between September and November 2021. Data was collected using observation and interviews. Those who participated in this study were graduates of Hasanuddin University (S1) who had attended online graduations, both period IV in 2019/2020 and period I in 2020/2021. There were ten informants who participated in this study. The are varied on the basis of age, place of origin, study program, faculty, and batch. The study indicates that despite the fact that Hasanuddin University is carrying out online graduation due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the graduates felt disappointed because the coveted graduation after more or less four years of studying finally had to be packaged in an online graduation. The meaning of graduation is very diverse, such as some who casually interpret graduation as a formality and euphoria. There are also those who interpret graduation as the result of the struggle for everything they went through while being students, as a transition status and as a space for appreciation. The implementation of online graduation does not have a significant effect on the completion of graduate thesis. Even though during the Covid-19 outbreak would be held online, the graduates are still preparing to take part. This preparation for graduation is divided into three, namely preparations related to media and internet networks, rehearsals, and the graduate appearance. Despite the Covid-19 outbreak, post-graduation celebrations are still carried out. It is argued in this article that Covid-19 is a pandemic, but an epidemic is an epidemic, graduates still intend to carry out various rituals that are carried out such as at offline graduation with various limitations and adjustments to the conditions of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Abstract

In 1996, there was a national scale immunization program called Polio National Immunization Week (PIN Polio) by the Indonesian Ministry of Health. The people at Benda Kerep Village, Cirebon became one of the targets of the health development program, but the program was failed in this area. This article focuses on the process of producing meaning by actors involved in the issues associated with PIN Polio program, so that controversy regarding this program is inevitable. This qualitative research was conducted in 2016 and additional occasional visits until 2022. There were eight informants involved in this study, consisting of two influential clerics (kyai), a mother who accepted the implementation of the PIN Polio program, and two others who don’t, and three health workers from the Health Office Cirebon. Data was collected using in-depth interview and observation techniques to understand why Polio PIN program in 2016 was failed in Benda Kerep Village, so that the level of community participation was very low in Benda. The results show that the stories behind the failure of implementation PIN Polio in 1996 at Benda Kerep has become the background of the failure of the program with various events that are considered as the impact of Polio injection. This is because stories of these past traumatic events are still circulating amongst the Benda Kerep people – even though they have not experienced it directly. It is argued in this article that language practice do not stand alone, it is closely associated with the existence of material health, such as syringes, uniforms and crowds of people who reinforce the meaning of past events.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemi has had a number of impacts on students in the City of Makassar. Many students choose to remain in the City of Makassar than to go back to their hometown in the midst of uncertain and insecure conditions from Covid-19. This article discusses the strategies adopted by students in the City of Makassar to survive during the Covid-19 pandemi. This research was conducted in the City of Makassar involving ten students who studied and stayed in this city during the Covid-19 pandemi. They consist of one man and nine women aged between 19 and 21 years, whose come from various tertiary institutions, study programs (prodi), and semesters. I combined in-depth interview and observastion as my data collection methods. The study indicates that many students did not return to their hometown during the Covid-19 pandemi and this was based on three reasons, namely: first, fear that they would be regarded as carriers of the virus when they returned home; second, the fear of being infected with Covid-19 while on the way to their hometown; third, limited facilities and infrastructure that support online lectures in their hometown. However, when they choose to stay in the City of Makassar they face many challenges, and to overcome them they carry out various strategies in order to survive. In general, the survival strategies implemented by these students are divided into three, namely strategies related to preventing Covid-19 by adhering to health protocols, limiting mobility, and keeping busy playing with their cellphones; strategies related to online lectures which consists of solidarity among fellow students and taking advantage of neighbors' help; and strategies for fulfilling daily needsby (utilizing the distribution of groceries by government and regional organization, working part time, living super-efficiently.

Abstract

The 80/20 principle initiated by Vilfredo Federico Damaso Pareto and known as the Pareto Principle. It is a principle in the business world where 20% input will produce 80% output. While a number of literatures shows that there is a significant influence between organizational culture and employee performance, this article focuses on the application of the Pareto Principle in KSPPS Bakti Huria Syariah. This qualitative research was carried out at the KSPPS Bakti Huria Syariah in South Sulawesi Province with two case studies, namely the KSPPS Bakti Huria Syariah Makassar Branch and Maros Branch. While the former represents a branch with many problematic partners/members, the latteris a branch who successfully apply the Pareto Principle. Data was collected using interview and observation. Interviews were conducted with 25 Heads of KSPPS Bakti Huria Syariah Branch and four managers of KSPPS Bakti Huria Syariah Cnetral Office. The study indicates that KSPPS Bakti Huria Syariah has four pillars in the welfare of its members, namely spiritual, economic, educational, and social entrepreneurship which is framed in the Vision "Serving One Million Members in 2030 by Using Technology and Working Together with Partners to Touch the Untouchables. Pareto Principle is applied in building a healthy corporate culture by improving governance, especially in business processes, and increasing productivity. he benefits not only experienced by the cooperatives itself, but also by employees and members/partners with various "surprises" provided by the company. But the Pareto Principle is only directed to focus on certain aspects, so comprehensive improvements cannot be carried out simultaneously. It is argued in this article that the Pareto Principle greatly determines the effectiveness of branch work which consists of improving work planning and evaluation, as well as determining the priority scale that has the most influential on the operational performance activities.
