Abstract

Introduction: Patients with cervical cancer are in need of support from people around them, especially families, sometimes they need hospital treatment also required encouragement and motivation of family members to reduce psychological burden and quality of life of patients with cancer increases. The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between family support and quality of life of cervical cancer patient at Rumah Singgah Sasana Marsudi Husada Yayasan Kanker Indonesia (YKI), East Java, Indonesia. Methods: The research design used correlation analysis with cross sectional study design. Thirty patients with cervical cancer were involved through purposive sampling technique. The independent variable was family support and dependent variable was quality of life. The instrument used in this research was the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. The data were analyzed by Spearman Rank (Rho) test with α < 0.05. Results: Statistical result showed that family support significantly relate to quality of life of cervical cancer patient with a value of p = 0,000 and correlation coefficient (r)  = 0,994 which means it has a strong relationship. Conclusion: There is a positive and strong relationship between family support and the quality of life of cervical cancer patients. The higher the family support, the better the quality of life felt by cervical cancer patient. All staffs of the institution or foundation is expected to encourage families to support and care for sick family members (cervical cancer patient). Thus, health workers must also enhance their knowledge and skills to detect any changes in the life situation (especially family support) experienced by cancer patients, because this will affect their quality of life.

Abstract

Introduction: Peripheral neuropathy is a common microvascular complication in Diabetes Mellitus patients, with symptoms of tingling, numbness, pain in the feet, and disabilities in daily activities. Buerger Allen Exercise to stimulate the development of collateral circulation in the feet. The purpose of the study was to explain the effect of Buerger Allen’s Exercise on the physical health performance of diabetic neuropathy patients. Methods: The research design used an experimental one-group pre-test post-test design. Purposive sampling technique with inclusion criteria: male and female DM patients, with a long history of diabetes> 5 years, undergoing treatment at the health center / other health services. Samples were taken in Krembangan Surabaya City with as many as 24 respondents. The independent variable was the Buerger Allen Exercise. The dependent variables were the physical health performance of diabetic neuropathy patients (peripheral oxygen saturation (StO2), Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI on the foot), and physical activity ability). The instruments used were an observation sheet for measurements of StO2, ABI, and physical ability. The research data were analyzed using the Paired t-test statistical test with a significance level of p <0.05. Results: There are significant results Buerger Allen Exercise of Ankle-Brachial Index (p=0.0085) and physical activity ability (p=0.031), and no significant result of peripheral oxygen saturation (p=0.075). Conclusion: There is an effect of the Buerger Allen Exercise on the Ankle-Brachial Index and physical activity ability of diabetic neuropathy patients. Further research needs to examine Buerger’s exercise toward blood glucose levels and control factors that are related.

Abstract

Introduction: Indonesian Research of Basic Health 2019 show that 1.5% of Indonesia's population suffers from coronary heart disease (CHD). Coronary heart disease has an impact on all aspects of the patient's life. Good health-seeking behavior is expected to prevent the severity from getting worse, and the risk of complications, up to death. This study aims to analyze the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, perceptions about health-illness and the ease of access to health service providers with health-seeking behavior in CHD patients. Methods: This study used a correlational descriptive design with a cross sectional approach. The population is CHD patients who are registered in the 3 work areas of the Gresik District Health Center. A large sample of 80 patients, using a purposive sampling technique. This study used questionnaires of health-seeking behavior in CHD patients, knowledge, attitude, perception about health-illness, and a questionnaire to measure the the ease of access to health service providers. Data analysis used the Spearman Rho test. Results: Major partial CHD affects patients aged 46-55 years and of good sex. There is a relationship between knowledge and health-seeking behavior in CHD patients (p = 0.001 and r = 0.367), there is a relationship between attitudes and health-seeking behavior in CHD patients (p = 0.000 and r = 0.737) and there is a relationship between perceptions of illness and health-seeking behavior in CHD patients (p = 0.001 and r = 0.361). Conclusion: The higher the knowledge and perceptions about illness and health, the more supportive the patient's attitude will be, and the better the health-seeking behavior in CHD patients. It is hoped that education and assistance can be given to CHD patients so they are more aware of the importance of appropriate treatment behavior.

Abstract

Introduction: The emergency department (ED) is at the forefront of hospital healthcare and is expected to provide timely and effective care. The imbalance of the need for emergency care and the availability of hospitals to provide health services has an impact on the occurrence of overcrowded situations. This study aims to determine the relationship between the implementation of triage and the incidence of overcrowded in the ED of Adi Husada Kapasari Hospital. Methods: This study uses a correlation study design with a cross sectional approach. The population in the study were all nurses in the ED of Adi Husada Kapasari Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia, and 14 nurses were involved as respondents through a total sampling technique. The independent variable is the implementation of triage, the dependent variable is the incidence of overcrowded. Data collection using a questionnaire sheet to measure the implementation of triage, and the NEDOCS scale (National Emergency Department Overcrowding Scale) to measure the incidence of overcrowded. Data was analyzed using Spearman rank correlation test with α = 0.05. Results: The results showed that more than half respondents (64.3%) practice triage in moderate level, and the overcrowded assessment showed all respondents (100%) in the level 1, which means it was in category not busy. Spearman rank correlation test showed that there was no relationship between the implementation of triage and the incidence of overcrowded in the ED of Adi Husada Kapasari Hospital (p-value 0.898 and r=0.038). Conclusion: For non-large-scale emergency departments like the ED of Adi Husada Kapasari Hospital, the implementation of triage is not significantly related to the overcrowded incidence, although some studies and theories state otherwise, that the accuracy of emergency room nurses in triaging can help reduce patients overcrowding and treat patients immediately. Further research could explore this gap through a larger sample or by involving or comparing more populations of various type of EDs.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes is a chronic disease characterized by abnormal blood sugar levels due to pancreatic disorders.  Quality of life and ankle brachial index values are an area of concern for nurses related to non-pharmacological treatments to prevent complications. Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) can improve relaxation and cellular immunity, as well as Neuromuscular Taping (NMT) is a non-pharmacological intervention to prevent lower extremity peripheral blood circulation decline, so both have a potential positive impact on the patient's quality of life. The aim of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of PMR and NMT on ankle brachial index (ABI) and quality of life in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Methods: The study was a quasy-experiment with a pre post test control group design. Consecutive sampling was implemented and resulted a sample of 32 T2DM patients with certain criteria, such as patients who were treated in the internal medicine ward, age 40-70 years, suffering from T2DM for more than5 years, not suffering from diabetic ulcers, and still can do some exercise. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test with correlation test with alpha 0.05. Results: There was a significant effect of the PMR-NMT combination intervention on ABI (p= 0.034) and quality of life (p= 0.007) in the intervention group. Conversely, the control group showed no difference in ABI (p= 0.142) and quality of life (p= 0.739) before and after the study. Conclusion: PMR and NMT can improve ABI values and Quality of Life in patients with T2DM. This PMR-NMT combination can be an alternative non-pharmacological therapy in patients T2DM to help improve ankle brachial index and quality of life.
