Abstract

This research examines Walhi's involvement in environmental politics in the hazing case in Riau by using Walhi's perspective as a non-governmental organization (NGO) that has a lot of influence in the process of policymaking by the government on environmental issues, especially in Riau during haze disasters. There is an effort to use the power relations by Walhi as a non-governmental organization (NGO) through the concept of political opportunity in raising the issue of the haze disaster in Riau so that it becomes an environmental issue on an international scale. The transnational advocacy strategy was used by Walhi Riau to show the line of power relations as a non-governmental organization (NGO) to influence the policies of the Riau provincial government related to the haze disaster. Starting from the strategy (1) information politics, which is the ability to produce information and direct the impact that will occur from the information obtained. (2) symbolic politics, namely the ability to call symbols and actions that can bring public opinion and framing and construction of an issue, (3) leverage politics, is the ability to influence certain situations when one party is unable to exert influence, and (4 ) accountability politics, is an effort to keep the powerful actors to keep upholding the policies that have been set.

Abstract

Yemen is an unsteady country with a long history of conflict and many complex issues that have led to the deterioration of the political, economic, and social situation. The conflict in its various stages began as an internal political struggle as a result of the people's grievances and the elite's competition for power and national wealth, in addition to other external factors. Hence, it is important to study the conflict factors in Yemen to understand the situation which in turn will help in providing solutions by decision-makers towards peace-making. Therefore, this study analyses the conflict factors in Yemen based on the political, economic, and social effects, in addition to the external interference effects. The research findings indicated that the conflict factors were not the only result of security or political issues but also presented by many socio-economic problems as well as external factors, which have affected of the country since its unification.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze Indonesia's foreign policy strategy to mitigate the global COVID-19 pandemic and the factors that affect Indonesia's foreign policy strategy. This research uses the perspective of behavioralism with the level of nation-state analysis. The method used in this research is qualitative research methods. The results show that Indonesia's foreign policy strategy in mitigating the global COVID-19 pandemic is through Alliance for Multilateralism that focuses on two things. First, the Indonesian government seeks to protect Indonesian citizens abroad. Second, the Indonesian government encourages strengthening governance within the framework of global health by supporting policies issued by WHO and establishing good cooperation, regionally and multilaterally. The factors that influence Indonesia's foreign policy strategy in efforts to mitigate the global COVID-19 pandemic are Indonesia's national interests and the international political constellation. Indonesia's national interests focus on protecting Indonesian citizens both at home and abroad. Meanwhile, the international political constellation has increased conflicts due to mutual suspicion between developed countries that are involved in trade competition in the health industry.

Abstract

The U.S anxiety about Middle Eastern immigrants became one of the main concerns of foreign policy in the Trump era. By using human security and foreign policy concepts as the analysis tools, this study aims at describing US foreign policy in Trump’s era as the response to the influx of Middle Eastern immigrants waves that threaten U.S domestic personal security. The policy issued by Trump’s era was inspirable from the Islamophobia perspective that resulted in contradictive foreign policy with previous government’s era. This study adopts a descriptive-qualitative approach with secondary data collection techniques. This study found some strategies foreign policy from Trump’s era as agendas to improve and maintain U.S domestic security. Those are Border Security and Interior Enforcement and executive order “Protecting the Nation from Terrorist Attacks by Foreign National” through travel ban.

Abstract

This study seeks to analyze strategic policies and local wisdom that exist in local communities in governancing and managing forests in Riau Province. This research uses qualitative method with case study research type. This study concludes that forest and land governances in Riau is still poor. The government has also not seriously implemented the strategy that has been made to resolve the case of forest and land fires. Increasing the budget in preventive efforts must be accompanied by efforts to improve budget governance that is more transparent and accountable. The role of the local government in overcoming unresolved land degradation conditions must be a priority that should not be ignored.
