Abstract

Ethnic Kurds live in the border area of several countries. They formed ethnic alliances based on ethnic kin. In 2011, when the political crisis occurred in Syria, Syrian Kurds became one of the opposition group, which opposed the government. John W. Crow and R. Noel stated that authoritarian governments generally respond to insecurity by implementing aggressive or militaristic approach. In this case, the Syrian Government uses violence and militaristic actions to suppress the power of opposition groups. Based on Tikhomirov, the response could increase the tendency for separatist groups - territorial and ethnic nationalism. The political crisis also weakens the power and capability of the government, along with the increasing pressure from opposition groups and mass mobilization. This is an opportunity for the Kurdish secessionist movement in Syria. As Peter Ferdinand stated that when strife increases and causes insecurity within the country, the nationalism that can survive is ethnic nationalism. The author also used Suhrke and Noble who stated that the support provided by blood brothers has a significant impact on ethnic groups who facing conflict, both with the state or other ethnic groups. Abstract

ABSTRACTIndonesia's potential as the top five coffee producers and exporters in the world will create opportunities in order to meet the high demand of US coffee consumption. However, competition for the world coffee export commodity market in the United States is very competitive. Indonesia launched a foreign policy on coffee diplomacy that involved a variety of stakeholders to increase Indonesia's coffee exports to the United States and give branding to Indonesian specialty coffee. The author aims to show the success of coffee diplomacy in the United States-Indonesia coffee commodity export cooperation seen by the increase in exports from year to year. The author uses descriptive-analytical methods to provide an overview of Indonesian coffee exports to the United States. Therefore, it easier for readers to obtain information about coffee diplomacy analysis which is motivated by several determinants of Indonesian foreign policy and national interests contained in legal instruments. Analysis of the coffee diplomacy policy also involves historical, cultural and political aspects to explain the flow of foreign policy formulation from domestic factors. Keywords: Coffee, Bilateral Cooperation, Coffee Diplomacy, Indonesia, United States DOI : https://doi.org/10.33005/jgp.v7i02.1830

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe strength of the United States in economic and military put him in the position in leadership as the most dominant actor after the outbreak of the First World War. The dominance showed in every decision and activity he participated in the political constellation and the global economy. One is through Bretton Woods System which is formed as well as the idea of the United States relating to the change and improvement of the structure of the post-war international monetary system. In the prewar period, the countries in the world more use gold as a single exchange rate system. But after the outbreak of the First World War, many countries experienced a decline in growth rates and instability in economic conditions due to the depleted gold reserves used to finance the war. The Bretton Woods System present to give enlightenment to all countries in order not to repeat the mistakes of the past which resulted in disruption of world economic structure. The system also managed to create international institutions such as the IMF, World Bank and WTO. The third institution initiated by the United States is the primary regulator in the respective proportions and play a role in promoting the liberalization of the economy. However, the Bretton Woods system did not last long because the great crisis facing the US in the 1970s led to the instability of the US domestic economic conditions that led to the collapse of the system which has been built for nearly half of the century. Keywords: United States, Bretton Woods System, liberal, economy, crisisDOI : https://doi.org/10.33005/jgp.v4i02.1921

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe main purpose of this paper is to explore further the dynamic and debatable relationshipbetween corporate social responsibility (CSR) and economic performance of a company byanalyzing the impact to company productivity or economic growth. Many previous studies inthis topic mostly use the manufacturing or machine based related industries. However, fordeveloping countries like Indonesia, hospitality or service based industries contributessignificantly to the nation’s economic development rather than other industries. Apparently, tourism industries have a slightly different mechanism compare to other industries in order tomake the business sustainab le and CSR plays a very important tool for its development. Bylooking first from some definition about CSR, the paper will then discover some long ongoingdebate over CSR impact and divided it into two majors which are profit maximization andhuman resour ces management. The case will be taken from increasingly growing tourismindustry in Indonesia which it has been considered as the best practice of CSR due to its highawareness to environmental and society issue. The paper later found out that despite thereluctance of some company to fully implement CSR and sign some codes of conducts forcertain humanitarian issues, there is positive impacts especially toward the accountability ofworkers. Also, the so called branding impact of CSR action will bring pote ntial sustainabilityto the company despite some critics to its genuine purpose by company. Keywords:CSR implementation, economic performance, company productivity, tourismindustryDOI : https://doi.org/10.33005/jgp.v4i02.1915

Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACTJapan’s involvement in Southeast Asia under economic cooperation has been going on since the end of World War 2 and it was continued throughout the Cold War period. In the end of the Cold War period, however, Japan started to show its intention to have more involvement in the security cooperation with Southeast Asia. This can be identified from Japan’s involvement in the multilateral cooperation on security under ASEAN like ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and ASEAN Defense Ministerial Meeting (ADMM). This paper tries to answer the question of how Japan’s changing strategy to Southeast Asia can be analyzed and what is the background of that changing strategy. Keywords: ASEAN, Southeast Asia, Regionalism, SecurityDOI : https://doi.org/10.33005/jgp.v5i01.1902

Abstract

This study explores South Korea‟s “cross certification” foreign policy, explaining the development of halal food industry in the country. Recently, the Halal food industry has become a huge market, attracting attentions in the global market. In this case, South Korea has been chosen as an interesting example because its‟ very minor Muslim population. From the total 51 million of its population, Muslim only counted as 250.000, representing less than 1% of them. Despite the very small number of Muslim, South Korea had made a serious efforts through certification cooperation with United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2015. Therefore, this paper examines the interests of South Korea through cross certification with UAE. Findings are followed through an analysis by the lenses of national interest concept and rational choice theory. This research explores three findings of the background and interest in the cooperation that could be explained. First, a very high import demand in the Emirates. Secondly, interest in ESMA (Emirates Authority of Standardization and Metrology) certification, the best quality standardization acknowledged in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Lastly, this study provides that the case was driven by economic interest and export activities which are mutually intertwined.DOI: https://doi.org/10.33005/jgp.v6i02.1825 Keywords: Export, Cross Certification, Halal Food, South Korea, United Arab Emirates
