Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims to explain the Indonesian government's efforts to increase foreign tourists from Singapore through the Wonderful Indonesia program in 2011-2014. The background of this study is the fluctuations of the number of foreign tourists to Indonesia from year 2004 to 2010, the declining occurs due to the international issues stating that Indonesia is an unsafe country. Therefore, Indonesia made various efforts to attract foreign tourists to visit Indonesia. Wonderful Indonesia is a program created by the Indonesian government as an effort to bring back the high number of foreign tourists. Wonderful Indonesia officially implemented from the beginning of January 2011. Singapore became the main promotion target of the Wonderful Indonesia program because Singaporean tourist is biggest contributor for the total number of tourists visiting Indonesia that has been showing a declining trend. Those problems are being analyzed under a dekskriptif methode by employing the cultural diplomacy and tourism promotion framework. Based on the theoretical approach, it can be argued that the government's efforts is based on a form of cultural diplomacy. This form of cultural diplomacy by Indonesia to Singapore works though the promotion of tourism and the forms of tourism promotion, specifically through sales promotion, internet marketing and advertising. Keywords: Wonderful Indonesia, cultural diplomacy, and tourism promotionDOI : https://doi.org/10.33005/jgp.v4i01.1929

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe entire world is facing significant challenges in the coming decades. It has been demonstrated that many countries must prepare themselves to face a considerable rise in food consumption and corresponding food waste. There must be a cooperation of consumers, retailers, producers and government to solve this complex issue. Their efforts to decrease food waste would offer a significant sustainable alternative to scale up food manufacturing that leading to a stabling food security internally and internationally. Governments and businesses should develop food loss and food waste prevention throughout the entire supply chain. There should be a higher effort on decreasing post-harvest losses in early stages in the food value chain in the developing countries. Meanwhile, in the developed countries, the government should have policies to reduce food waste at consumer level which could minimize food being unnecessarily thrown away. Governments should also support the establishment of independent organizations which could facilitate and assess efforts to decrease food waste, such as the WRAP in the UK in grocery and hospitality supply chain. Keywords: food loss, food waste, food value chain, reuse, cycleDOI:https://doi.org/10.33005/jgp.v3i02.1933

Abstract

ABSTRACTProblems and challenges in achieving sustainable Indonesian food security are multi-dimensional including economic, social, political, and environmental aspects. Identification of those problems and challenges can be approached through food supply and demand analysis. From supply side, those challenges, among others, are a stiff competition in the use of natural resources, impacts of global climate change, and the dominance of smallscale farmers in food farming. From demand side, several challenges are the existence of high population growth and its dynamic characteristics, change in food consumers' preference, and competition in demand for food commodities as human consumption, feed, and energy uses. This paper aims to review current condition of Indonesian food security, to analyze challenges faced by this country, and to formulate policy alternatives in achieving sustainable Indonesian food security toward 2025. This analysis found out that in the last six years Indonesia was able to provide enough food to fulfill its people’s need, however quality of food consumption of an average Indonesian was under standard dietary pattern recommended by nutritionists. Challenges to achieve sustainable Indonesian food security toward 2025 will be more difficult. To response to the challenges, this article recommends some adjustment on policy direction of food security development, especially related to defining goals, choosing means and ways in achieving the goals, and setting targets of food security development. Keywords: sustainable food security, food demand and suplly dynamics, policy direction changesDOI : https://doi.org/10.33005/jgp.v4i02.1918

Abstract

This study analyzed the energy security strategies of China through increasing energy supply security in Africa from 2000-2010. It used qualitative methods by taking data through library studies. This study found that China uses investments (joint ventures and acquisitions) and infrastructure assistance as a strategy to achieve its energy security in Africa. During 2000-2010, China's energy production and consumption needed an imbalance that made China have to secure energy so that it could still be accessed with normal wheels. In implementing a strategy to achieve energy security, China is driven by a factor of a competitive advantage which must also be successful. China encourages its national oil companies to conduct energy exploration in Africa through investments (joint ventures and procurement) as well as providing infrastructure development assistance to countries with the largest oil reserves in Africa. Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research proposes the idea that IDN-G, as a non-governmental institution, has been transforming the Indonesian diaspora posture in the context of globalization and nationalism. IDN-G has been a crucial part in giving positive discourse to Indonesian diaspora, improving Indonesian democracy, increasing the number of social philanthrophy, and in enforcing the dual citizenship law. On another hand, IDN-G takes role in encouraging Indonesian economy by remittance, investment, and organization. With the existence of IDN-G, Indonesian diaspora introduces a new form of Indonesian nationalism, which called long-distance virtual nationalism. It articulates Castell’s network society, Habermas’ virtual public sphere and Anderson’s long distance nationalism. Finally, IDN-G brings new characteristics on Indonesian diaspora, they are 1) Indonesian diaspora is not only labor migrant, 2) it contributes not only in economy, but also in social and politics, and 3) the diaspora is not state-driven, but it is society-driven.Keywords: IDN-Global, globalization, nationalism, virtual, Indonesian diasporaDOI:https://doi.org/10.33005/jgp.v3i02.1939

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe quota carbon trading (CO2), by the West Sumatera and Australia under the Kyoto Protocol and the REDD, brought both positive impacts and also negative impacts. The quota carbon trading (CO2) is considered as the solution in addressing global warming and climate change issues. Unfortunately, the other side of the quota carbon trading (CO2) takes forms in the deforestation and forest degradation. In this case, AusAID acts as the mediator in solving the problems that arises between the two sides. With the AusAID taking role as mediator, it is expected that the related parties can work together for a common purpose. In regards to that matter, the AusAID works through the use of diplomacy, communication and influence, which resulted in the effective work of AusAID. In achieving their goal, there is an important role of the DSF (Decentralization Support Facility) as facilitator and inspector related mechanisms must be fulfilled by Australia, AusAID, and West Sumatera. Keywords: Kyoto Protocol, REDD, quota carbon trading (CO2), AusAID, and DSF.DOI : https://doi.org/10.33005/jgp.v4i01.1926
