Abstract

Economic crisis forced Indonesia to ask IMF support .As a consequences, several policies which was not popular had to be taken .In1998, fertilizer subsidy was withdrawn. The policy was espected to have positive impact both on their supply and their prices infarmers level due to the healthy competitive market. However, the impacts of the policy were the price increasing of fertiliers and cost production as well as the flooding of lower prices imported comodities. A side of farmers term of trade were lowered, farms' productivity were also decreasing. Cut off Indonesia and IMF relationship made possible for thegovernment to resubsidize the fertilizers since in theend of 2003. Hopefully the policy will encourage farmers to intensify their farming due to the lower cost of production. To findout farmers perception on the resubsidy policy, survey was carried out in Blora District in Agustus-Nopember 2005. Results showed that since farmers pay the fertilizerin cash, thesubsidy withdrawl added their burden. Respondents stated that in the last five years, fertilizers' prices tended to increase. Most respondents hope that urea prices is not more than Rp. l.050,-/kg to make them do not loss money in paddy farming. Only part of farmers stated that urea price should range from Rp.l.100,- to Rp.l.200,-/kg. Unfortunately, most of them (43.95%) stated that less information from the agricultural extension workers caused around 41.12% of respondent did not know the fertilizer subsidy policy. Farmers were also not fully realize the policy. As much as 22.42% of respondents stated that the fertilizer price was not differ, while 31.77% of them stated that the price even higher compare to the condition before the policy. The result of survey showed that field extension workers (Penyuluh Pertanian Lapangan) still have significant role as a source of information either in agricultural innovation or govenunent policies. However, repositioning of their job description need to be developed further.

Abstract

Edible film was film pack that made from edible substance (carbohidrat, hidrofobic substance, fat, protein) to increase shelflife food product in storage. Edible film could be developed as barrier moisture, gases and solute movement. This research was conducted to make edible film from velvet bean flour (Mucuna pruriens f. utilis L. DC). Data were collected from experiment and analized by the analysis of variance with completely randomized design with 3 x 3 arrangement. The first factor is velvet bean consentration (5%, I 0%, 15% w/v). The second factor is pH (pH 3, pH 6, pH 9). The result of research that consentration of velvet bean had significant effect on thickness, elongation, tensile strength and water vapor transmission rate,While pH had significant on elongation, tensile strength and water vapor transmission rate, but did not have significant on thickness. The combination treatment velvet bean flour in 15% consentration and pH 9 resulted the lowest water vapor transmission rate ( 13,06 g/m2hr), the higest tensile strength (4,61 Mpa), thickness 0, 154 mm and elogation 9 ,22%.

Abstract

Since last four years, area harvested and production of tobacco in Temanggung District tended to decrease due to the low price of tobacco. It forces farmers to search alternative commodities. Survey to find out the role of estate crops for poor farmers was carried out in September-October 2004 inTernanggung District. The assessment involved 91 farmers who coming from three sub districts, i.e. Pringsurat Sub District (medium land), Kaloran and Kledung Sub Districts (both are high land). Results showed that in general agricultural sector was an important as a source of income, in which contributed 30,6 % and 45 % for medium and high land respectively. For high land farmers, estate crops contributed the highest percentage (14%) followed by food crops (12%). The dominant estate crops were coffee, tobacco, coconut, clove, and cacao. Tobacco showed the highest revenue (Rp. 2,505 millions/household), even though also needed the highest production cost (Rp. 1,586 millions/household). In medium land, estate crops were in the fourth placed (5%) after livestock (9%), forestry (8%), and horticulture crops (6%). Dominant commodities were coffee, coconut, and clove. Marketing system was not different in both areas. Aside of coconut, estate crops was firstlyprocessed before being sold in village and sub district markets, in which was paid in cash. For tobacco commodity, traders were the source of price information, while for other commodities were neighbours/other farmers. Based on the analysis, efficiency could be increased through scaling up the farm size. Fanning consolidation was promising to be implemented

Abstract

The research activities are aimed to identify demographic condition and socio-economic, and the activities also determine the factors that are affecting the residence preferences in research areas. The residents ofKelurahan N gesrep Kecamatan Banyumanik as a population, but the data were collected from sample respondents by random tecnique for 3 districts of residential in those areas. The research variable include educational level, income, and socio-cultural etc. (as internal factors) and residence preferences consideration about the location aestetic and prestige, physical and social aspect of the inveronment (as external factors). The data collection method use questionaires and intervews with respondents. The analysis tecniques are descriptive, cross tab analysis and multiple regress. The results show that the spreading of the residents and gender of the research population are indicating a balance proportion and it can said that the educational level is quit high, although the data derived from newcomers. In addition, the income factors are prominent factors in determining residence preferences, especially in location aestetics and prestige (the location coolness and beaty), and the surroundings environments (sanitation and comfort). While the distance factor of the dwelling to the working location is not an important factor to residence preferences. Its interested at building design (house type) as internal factor the realy is dominant prominent factors in determining residential preferences. Based on the research result, we can conclude that : I) there is a balance variation in population distribution, gender, and educational level as well as the economic values offamilies, which are reflected in monthly income level. However, from this condition, we could say that the educational level of the residents in research area are quit high, 2) in residence preferences, newcomers have different characteristics to the origins. The newcomers have chosen the location through careful! planning and consideration, particularly in considering the inverorunent physical and social aspects, 3) the internal factors, that is be interested at building design (house type) is dominant prominent factors in residential preferences.

Abstract

Flooded area ofBlorong River increased. Delusion area of the flooded area was 0.5 meter and became 1.5 meters high. Result ofthe research namely TATA-AIR.EXE, base concept of modeling uses water balance was made by using Delphi 7'' version. Correlation test value between modeled discharge flow and field measurement result showsr-counting value (0.99) higher than r-table(0.576), hence the model is can be used for simulating various landuse alternative. The simulation result using TATA· AIR.EXE shows that entire alternatives for model experimentation resulted discharge ratio value was under 30. condition ofBlorong River discharge was in the range between 5.29 until 5.94, therefore it is assumed normally, even it can be assumed very good value. Floods in the downstream of Blorong River is caused by drainage capacity and the flooded area in the downstream is topographically located on the low-flat area (close to the sea) which cannot store the running water flow from the upstream ofBlorong catchment area.

Abstract

Beringin river is one of 18 rivers in West Semarang. Most ofits catchment area have developed as industrial area and housing complex. Those developments have changed and destroyed its green area, so made it over flow and flood. Mangunharjo is an area in West Semarang. The area has been destroyed by abration as the result of PT KLI activities. The flood and abration have influenced human being in Semarang. This research is emperical, exploring the existing, and asking for response of the inhibitans. As the result, the government minimalized those conditions with many regulations, but they do not give priority to the public services. For the environment was not looked out, the problems are going to be worse. There are 4 methods to drainage environment friendly such as: conservation pond, well drill in land, river side polder, and ground water protection area. The government has to make action plans and total management for the next. All inbibitans should join with him.
