Abstract

Good engagement of sports towards education enables the students to balance academic learning and sports skill acquisition. This study sought to find the relevance of perceived coaches’ attributes on the result of evaluation to the performance of student-athletes to produce successful athletes and coaches. It utilized descriptive-correlational research design to determine the significant relationship between attributes of school coaches and sports fitness skill performance of N=162 student-athletes. Instruments used were standardized Coaching Behavior Scale for Sports CBS-S and Standardized Sports Performance Physical Fitness Skill Test. The results disclosed that the sports fitness performance of the student-athletes according to cardiovascular endurance, agility, muscular strength, and flexibility were on highest level; power, reaction-time, and speed were on high level; balance was on average level; muscular endurance and coordination were on low level. It is concluded that the behavior of a coach may determine his competency in designing effective training, hence influence excellent achievement among athletes. Thus, an active engagement of sports towards education enables the students to balance academic learning and sports skill acquisition.

Abstract

This research aimed to propose a model for the enhancement of service quality of the 2nd Thailand Open Master Games 2022 in Thailand. Data were collected from a sample survey of 583 participants i.e., athletes, referees, coaches, officials, team managers, volunteers, and all involved. A simple sampling was used. A particular focus of the study is if and how participant satisfaction influences participant’ expenditures. It is hypothesized and argued that expenditure depends on satisfaction relative to perceived service quality. Descriptive and regression analytical techniques were employed for data analysis. Three primary dimensions in service quality were identified in the sports context: sporting event quality, staff quality, and venue and sports facilities quality. It is empirically found that perceived service quality affected participants' satisfaction and those participants with satisfaction greater than their perceived service quality during the visit spend significantly more. The management in sports events could apply the findings in delivering services with a view to boosting customers. A limitation of this study, however, is that the satisfaction is not measured systematically taking into consideration several dimensions of satisfaction that should be addressed in future research.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the basic Subanen dance steps as the basis for creating an inspired Subanen dance exercise routine. Dance exercise is a well-known activity for all ages. People are passionate about doing it for them to stay fit and healthy. A descriptive method of research was used in the study in which the observation method was utilized. Purposive sampling was used to ensure the authenticity of the dance steps, which were from the true-blooded Subanen dancers. Three pairs of dancers, three musicians, and one key informant were the respondents of the study. Based on the interview and observation results, stamping or “pasagagang” steps is the basic footwork, and twisting or moving the hands and wrist circularly like doing the “kumintang”, the basic hand movement of the dance. Most of the Subanen dances are in 4/4-time signature with the counting of 1, 2, 3, & 4. Their dances usually start with slow movements, then gradually change from moderately fast to fast. “Agong” is the commonly used musical instrument in accompanying their dances. Five basic steps were identified: praise, grace, prayer, casting, and courtship. Based on the basic dance steps, a dance exercise routine called “Hataw Subanen” was created. Thus, exercise does not only use modern dance movements but also traditional or indigenous dances/movements. Hataw Subanen not only promotes a fit and healthy life, but also preserves, enhances, and harnesses one’s indigenous culture and tradition.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the driving aspects of continuous commitment towards karate among Singaporean alumni karate practitioners by examining three periods of their journey; commitment to early participation, commitment to sport karate participation and commitment to present participation. The research question behind this study was what are the driving aspects of continuous commitment in alumni Karate practitioners based on early participation, sport karate participation and present participation? Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 7 black-belt karate practitioners between the ages of 21 - 26 years old. Each interview was audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. For data analysis, thematic analysis was employed and themes were identified and categorised into higher order themes. Member-checking was performed to check transcript accuracy and clarify the themes. Four driving aspects surfaced based on the three periods of commitment; Personal competency, personal enjoyment, personal well-being and personal obligations. The study further discussed the driving aspects and underlying themes that drove continuous commitment to Karate. Results of this study could benefit martial arts clubs and relevant organisations in understanding some of the factors behind karate commitment and engagement. The implications may be translated into healthy lifestyle engagement policies by government or policy-making bodies in encouraging active health and lifelong sport participation. Further research on Karate could focus on the influence of overall training time and club affiliation in driving commitment to the martial art.
