A large numbers of credits taken by college students in Undergraduate Program proved to be insufficient for their successful competition in the job market. To deal with this issue, Teacher Training Colleges and Institution provided their graduates with several professional skills related to computer and internet, foreign language learning, and other vocational skills. Some of the results of these programs are fruitful for the graduations; however, several ongoing activities need to be monitored and reviewed. Although 'Hunting Tourists' has been the trade mark of the English Tadris Department, 'Teaching Engish for the Children' which will be implemented in the few years to come, may override the previous ones because of its advantages and practical values.Kata kunci: Praktikum, pembelajaran, pendekatan, metode, strategi, teknik, bahasa Inggris, program.

This study was conducted to figure out the influence of Resource-based Learning (RBL) learning method using internet toward learning achievement in Biology subject. This study employed Post-test only Control Group Design. The population was the first semester of the tenth grade students of SMAN 4 Padang in 2008/2009 academic year. They were distributed into 8 parallel classes. The sample was taken by employing purposive sampling technique. After deciding two classes to become the sample by using coin flipping technique, class X.6 and X.5 were chosen as the experimental and control groups respectively. Data were analyzed by using t-test. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the value of t-calculated was 3.87 under the degree of freedom 95% (α=0.05) and the value of t-table was 2.00 under the degree of freedom of 69. Therefore, t-calculated was higher that t-table. This means that the alternate hypothesis was accepted. It can be concluded that Resource-based Learning (RBL) learning method using internet gives significant influence toward learning achievement in Biology subject of the tenth grade students of SMAN 4 Padang in 2008/2009 academic year.Kata kunci: metode pembelajaran, resource based learning, internet, hasil belajar, biologi

Teaching speaking to students at any level seems to be a big problem to English teachers. As a result, this skill seems to be ignored. Though, some of the teachers have tried hard to teach this skill, the result does not reflect the competency that the students are supposed to master. This is due to the inappropriate techniques and classroom procedures applied in the classroom. Consequently, the learning processes tend to be boring. Outbound Science provides active and enjoyable learning atmosphere that guarantees students not easily to get fed up and tired during the learning process. Such supporting atmosphere facilitates the students’ comprehension on the concept of science. Outbound science learning is carried out in order that the students can experience directly the concept they are learning about, develop their logical reasoning and teach them to acquire spiritual, emotional and intellectual optimally. After all, innovative learning is intended to activate students in order to improve educational quality by promoting student-centered learning in which instructional materials are made to be related to students’ daily life experience and meaningful as well.Kata kunci: outbound sains, meaningful learning (pembelajaran bermakna), inovatif.

Planning which are important and strategic functions in education should be carried out by means of system approach. Educational management system approach is elaborated in comprehensive system approach and input-output approach. System approach, according to its goals, is oriented toward the use of various appropriate concepts of system theory. PENELUSURAN PERILAKU METAKOGNITIF MAHASISWA DALAM PEMECAHAN MASALAH MATEMATIKA Dona Afriyani

This article describes self-belief and intuition, and knowledge about students’ thinking process in solving problems. This research employed qualitative approach using quantitative method. Techniques of data analysis were data reduction, data display and conclusion. The finding showed that: 1) students of high group had possessed self-belief and intuition, and knowledge about students’ thinking process in solving problems, but had not possessed conditional knowledge yet. 2) Students of average group had possessed good self-belief, but had not intuition and knowledge about students’ thinking process in solving problems yet. 3) Students of low group had not possessed the above mentioned two metacognitive behaviors in solving problems yet.Kata kunci: metakognitif, masalah matematika

Critical reading is a reading technique that encourages the students to have deeper comprehension on the materials they are reading. Analyzing and evaluating the reading materials by proposing several critical questions to the writer, known as ‘reading between the lines”, can direct the reading to ‘advance’ level. Consequently, the students do not just take for granted what they are reading. However, to become a critical reader is not easy since there are some potential obstacles that the reader might encounter. Consequently, they have to be able to deal with the obstacles and therefore become critical and active readers.Key words: critical reading, critical readers, critical thinking, and active readers

MENINGKATKAN MEMBACA PEMAHAMAN BAHASA ARAB SISWA MELALUI MODEL KOOPERATIF TIPE CIRC DI MAN PADANG PANJANG SUHARMON SUHARMON

his research aimed improving students’ reading comprehension in Arabic by using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) at MAN 3 Padangpanjang. To reach the aim, qualitative approach and classroom action research (CAR) were used. The participants of the research were students of grade XI/2 MAN 3 Padangpanjang. The research was conducted during July-August in 2008/2009 academic year which consisted 3 cycles. The data were collected employing such techniques as of test, observation, interview and in depth discussion among the researcher team, peer and collaborator for the reflection and supported by the following tools as reading comprehension test, observation sheet, interview guidance, questionnaire and discussion sheet. The finding showed that CIRC improved students reading comprehension in Arabic, and learning process activity. CIRC also made reading comprehension in Arabic more enjoyable and minimize learning boredom.Kata kunci: membaca pemahaman, model pembelajaran, kooperatif tipe CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition).

nformation technology (IT) has become major facilitators for business practices, has yielded great contribution towards fundamental changes upon organizational structures, operations, and management. Automatic Telling Machine (ATM) , e-commerce, online e-banking transfer, are the examples of the application of the technology and has made human’s life even easier. The advancement of IT also contributes to educational system. Web-based learnings (e-learnings) are continuously developed by IT practitioners. Profiles of educational institutions, starting from basic level up to university ones, are easily accessed by society regardless where they live due to IT developments. Therefore, there should be great attempts made the government, especially Ministry of Education and Culture, to ensure that IT can reach all level of society and get rid of the possibility of quality gaps of education.Kata kunci: kualitas pendidikan, teknologi, informasi

This article proposed some important issues relating with teaching English vocabulary. This article also quoted various literature that have a correaltion with teaching English vocabulary for Indonesian students who were not from English Department. Specially, this article discussed about some issues relating with teaching strategy (Metacognitive strategy) and its procedure in teaching English vocabulary to the students.
