Abstract

This paper is aimed at making a brief analysis to the internationalization process that Huawei has undertaken making a PEST analysis on the general framework on which the company is operating. From this analysis this team concluded that there is a moderate-risk level political and economical environment for the company arising from diplomatic tensions between the United States and China and the recent tarde war. During the analysis, we also drew the conclusion that the R&D centers of Huawei around the world and the demand for mobile devices are crucial for its economic performance. We were also able to establish the characteristics of the demand for mobile devices today from which our proposal to the company arises. According to the research we did, the demand for mobile devices is going to be strengthened by new users in younger ages and the replacement of the old devices that have fulfilled their product lifecycle. Therefore, our idea is to tackle this segment of the demand designing products or services for younger users taking advantage of the capabilities of the company in R&D. In Chapter 4 we analyzed the risks of getting this new product to the American market. The main risk which arises from the political difficulties of China and the US is the imposition of tariffs for the mobile devices coming from China. In that chapter we propose diffe The risks of trying to get this new product to the American market are described. We also offer three different alternatives to sort out the increase in tariffs. The most suitable option for Huawei is to diversify its production to Peru. This country has an FTA with the US which means that tariffs can be avoided, it is strong in mining which means that the raw material are available there and the labor force price is still competitive.

Abstract

For our research topic of Nusantara project, we chose Malaysian based e-hailing application Dacsee. Currently Dacsee company’s most important revenue source is the taxi service through their mobile application. In this paper, we are suggesting that Dacsee should de-risk their business and expand their business model to ride sharing (ie. carpooling). Furthermore, by expanding their business, Dacsee will get access to different revenue sources, gain economies of scale benefits and leverage first-mover advantage. First, the Dacsee Company is introduced. After that, a critical analysis of the economic feasibility of our idea is analyzed from multiple perspectives. Some of the analysis done are for example Porter Five Forces analysis and VRIO analysis. As a result of our analyses we’ll suggest Dacsee Company to include carpooling to their product catalogue. By aggressive marketing and expanding their services quickly nationwide, they will gain temporary competitive advantage over rival companies. If Dacsee simultaneously utilizes their own cryptocurrency and promotes customer revenue they will be able to create customer lock-in in the market renowned by fierce competition. The purpose of this study was to figure out improved ways for Dacsee to conduct their business in Malaysia.

Abstract

In most families, the role of breadwinner always goes to male figure. Females usually take part of supporting a family in domestic circumstances only. This paradigm applies as well in fishing communities. The wives passively wait for the remittances sent home by the men from fishing or cultivating seaweed. Wives of fishermen basically will have equal potential to support their family financially, if they were provided with knowledge and skills as their husbands have especially in cultivating seaweed. Seaweed farming is preferred for them to prioritize household activities still while offering support for the family income. Domestic women are encouraged to participate in the public sector, as a way of fulfilling one target of MDGs (Millennium Development Goals) 2010 in promoting gender equality and women empowerment. The promotion has reached the desired target, as reported by Bappenas (State Ministry for Development Planning) in 2011. The effort of empowering them is divided into five stages, i.e., (1) raising awareness; (2) socialization to grow interest; (3) evaluation; (4) trial (on a smaller scale); and (5) applying selected solutions in the social problem-solving attempt. The informants were female seaweed farmers in Gorontalo Utara regency. The method utilized survey, observation, and interview. The results revealed that the courage of the female in seaweed farming is outstanding, which in turn help improve the household income.
